Several perturbations in the number of peripheral blood leukocytes, such as neutrophilia and lymphopenia associated with Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) severity, point to systemic molecular cell cycle alterations during severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. However, the landscape of cell cycle alterations in COVID-19 remains primarily unexplored. Here, we performed an integrative systems immunology analysis of publicly available proteome and transcriptome data to characterize global changes in the cell cycle signature of COVID-19 patients.

Introduction: Oxidative stress is closely related to the pathophysiology of gestation, where the placenta is susceptible to oxidative damage, contributing to the onset of gestational complications. Currently, few studies evaluate the use of oxidative markers for prediction of risk of gestational complications. However, there are some reports that suggest these biomarkers as potential prognostic biomarkers.

Background: Obesity and comorbidities onset encompass gut dysbiosis, altered intestinal permeability, and endotoxemia. Treatments that target gut dysbiosis can cope with obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) management. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-alpha activation and dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibition alleviate NAFLD, but the mechanism may involve gut microbiota modulation and merits further investigation.

Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome that involves structural changes in the heart, leading to a decrease in cardiac output, mainly caused by myocardial infarction (MI), which is the most common form of cardiovascular disease worldwide. Clinical evaluation remains the most accurate diagnostic method for ischemic HF, since the known biomarkers have high cost, are difficult to use for early diagnosis, and have low specificity. This often leads to late diagnosis since only ~ 25% symptoms of HF appear after MI.
