Objectives: The efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in clinically relevant neuroplasticity research depends on the degree to which stimulation induces robust, reliable effects. The high degree of interindividual and intraindividual variability observed in response to rTMS protocols, such as continuous theta burst stimulation (cTBS), therefore represents an obstacle to its utilization as treatment for neurological disorders. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a protein involved in human synaptic and neural plasticity, and a common polymorphism in the BDNF gene (Val66Met) may influence the capacity for neuroplastic changes that underlie the effects of cTBS and other rTMS protocols.

Purpose: Current studies show that frequency tuning modification is a good marker for the detection of endolymphatic hydrops (EH) employing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with Ménière's disease (MD). The purpose of the present study is to analyze the auditory and vestibular function with audiometric and vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP) responses, respectively, in both the affected and unaffected ears of patients with unilateral MD using MRI as diagnostic support for the degree of EH.

Understanding cerebellar-cortical physiological interactions is of fundamental importance to advance the efficacy of neurorehabilitation strategies for patients with cerebellar damage. Previous works have aimed to modulate this pathway by applying transcranial electrical or magnetic stimulation (TMS) over the cerebellum and probing the resulting changes in the primary motor cortex (M1) excitability with motor-evoked potentials (MEPs). While these protocols produce changes in cerebellar excitability, their ability to modulate MEPs has produced inconsistent results, mainly due to the MEP being a highly variable outcome measure that is susceptible to fluctuations in the excitability of M1 neurons and spinal interneurons.

We transplanted RADA16-PRG self-assembled nanopeptide scaffolds (SAPNSs), bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), and a brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)-expressing adeno-associated virus (AAV) into rats subjected to acute spinal cord injury (SCI) to investigate the effects of these transplantations on acute SCI repair and explore their mechanisms. Neural correlates of impaired vocal feedback control in post-stroke aphasia.

We used left-hemisphere stroke as a model to examine how damage to sensorimotor brain networks impairs vocal auditory feedback processing and control. Individuals with post-stroke aphasia and matched neurotypical control subjects vocalized speech vowel sounds and listened to the playback of their self-produced vocalizations under normal (NAF) and pitch-shifted altered auditory feedback (AAF) while their brain activity was recorded using electroencephalography (EEG) signals. Event-related potentials (ERPs) were utilized as a neural index to probe the effect of vocal production on auditory feedback processing with high temporal resolution, while lesion data in the stroke group was used to determine how brain abnormality accounted for the impairment of such mechanisms.

Purpose Of Review: We aim to provide the current evidence on utility and application of neuromonitoring tools including electroencephalography (EEG), transcranial Doppler (TCD), pupillometry, optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD), cerebral near-infrared spectroscopy (cNIRS), somatosensory-evoked potentials (SSEPs), and invasive intracranial monitoring in COVID-19. We also provide recent evidence on management strategy of COVID-19-associated neurological complications.

Recent Findings: Despite the common occurrence of neurological complications, we found limited use of standard neurologic monitoring in patients with COVID-19.
