Background: Endoscopic forceps biopsy (EFB) lacks precision in diagnosing indeterminate tumors. When the presence of early gastric cancer (EGC) is macroscopically suspected, but biopsy pathology fails to give a diagnosis of neoplasia, it causes problems in clinical management. The purpose of this study was to discuss the outcome of gastric indeterminate tumors and the clinical factors associated with predicting EGC.

Hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) are characterized by frequent somatic genomic copy number alterations (CNAs), with most of them biologically unexplored. Here, we performed integrative analyses combining CNAs with the transcriptomic data to reveal the cis- and trans-effects of CNAs in HCC. We identified recurrent genomic gains of chromosome 8q, which exhibit strong trans-effects and are broadly associated with ribosome biogenesis activity.

To identify hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)-implicated long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), we performed an integrative omics analysis by integrating mRNA and lncRNA expression profiles in HCC tissues. We identified a collection of candidate HCC-implicated lncRNAs. Among them, we demonstrated that an lncRNA, which is named as p53-stabilizing and activating RNA (PSTAR), inhibits HCC cell proliferation and tumorigenicity through inducing p53-mediated cell cycle arrest.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are recently regarded as a naturally forming family of widespread and diverse endogenous noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) that may regulate gene expression in mammals. At present, above 30000 circRNAs have already been found, with their unique structures to maintain stability more easily than linear RNAs. Several previous literatures stressed on the important role of circRNAs, whose expression was relatively correlated with patients' clinical characteristics and grade, in the carcinogenesis of cancer.

We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the association between overall survival and glucose transporter s (GLUTs) 1 and 3 to find an accurate prognostic biomarker.
Methods: We systematically searched the PubMed, EMbase and Medline databases for relevant published studies that were consistent with the eligible criteria up to January 2016, and calculated pooled estimated hazard ratios of GLUT-1 and -3's expressions in different cancer types and ethnic populations.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a common infectious disease. Here we perform a genome-wide association study (GWAS) among Chinese populations to identify novel genetic loci involved in persistent HBV infection. GWAS scan is performed in 1,251 persistently HBV infected subjects (PIs, cases) and 1,057 spontaneously recovered subjects (SRs, controls), followed by replications in four independent populations totally consisting of 3,905 PIs and 3,356 SRs.

The vascular endothelium responds to infection by destabilizing endothelial cell-cell junctions to allow fluid and cells to pass into peripheral tissues, facilitating clearance of infection and tissue repair. During sepsis, endotoxin and other proinflammatory molecules induce excessive vascular leak, which can cause organ dysfunction, shock, and death. Current therapies for sepsis are limited to antibiotics and supportive care, which are often insufficient to reduce morbidity and prevent mortality.

Genistein (4',5,7-trihydroxyisoflavone) is the most abundant isoflavone found in the soybean that exhibits an anti-inflammatory effect. The present study was designed to examine the effects of genistein on expression levels of hemolysate-induced proinflammatory and adhesion molecules in SD rat brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs). Genistein treatment attenuated hemolysate-induced nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappaB) p65 translocation in BMECs.

Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) is a potent chemokine that plays an important role in the recruitment of macrophages. Although previous studies have demonstrated that MCP-1 has been shown to be involved in the damaging inflammatory processes associated with stroke, infection, neoplasia, and others in the central nervous system, the role of MCP-1 in the cerebral artery after experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in rats has been largely unexplored. This study was undertaken to investigate the expression of the MCP-1 in SAH model and to clarify the potential role of MCP-1 in cerebral vasospasm.

In order to determine the possible effects of hemolysate on brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs), we examined the effects of hemolysate on the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and NF-kappaB activation in rat BMECs. Hemolysate induced the expression of ICAM-1 and MCP-1 in endothelial cells. In addition, hemolysate stimulated nuclear translocation of the p65 subunit of NF-kappaB, and NF-kappaB DNA-binding activity in BMECs.
