Minute virus of mice (MVM) is one of the most prevalent infectious agents in laboratory mouse colonies. In this study, we optimized a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay using hydroxynaphthol blue (HNB) for rapid and visual detection of MVM. The reaction, which entailed addition of HNB dye prior to amplification, was performed in one step in a single tube at 62 °C for 45 min.

Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is the primary agent responsible for porcine circovirus-associated diseases (PCVADs), which is acknowledged as one of the most economically important diseases for the swine industry worldwide. Currently, the development of PCV2 vaccine against PCVADs and for other applications require large amounts of viral particles. The low propagation rate of PCV2 in vitro limits vaccine production.

Murine norovirus (MNV), is a prevalent pathogen of laboratory mice closely related to human norovirus (HuNoV), a contagious pathogen known to cause gastroenteritis worldwide; however, the mechanism of norovirus replication remains poorly understood. Both heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) and heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) play an important role in viral genome replication and viral gene expression. In this study, we first found that heat stress exerted a positive effect on the replication of MNV in the murine macrophage RAW264.

Modified citrus pectin (MCP) is a carbohydrate enriched complex, which has been implicated in cancer treatment and prevention. However, the effects of MCP on urinary bladder cancer (UBC) are unknown. In this study, MCP was first tested in T24 and J82 human UBC cells and showed the inhibition of cell viability by the sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay.

Background/aim: The aim of the present study was to establish a patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mouse model of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and investigate the anti-tumor efficacy of silencing of TUG1 and LCAL6 long non-coding RNA in the PDX model.
Materials And Methods: PDXs were established by subcutaneously implanting NSCLC surgical tumor fragments into immunodeficient mice. PDX characterization was performed by histopathological, immunohistochemical and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analyses for NSCLC subtype-specific markers and expression of LCAL6 and TUG1.

Objective: We applied carbon nanoparticle suspensions to the papillary thyroid carcinoma cases with no clinical regional lymph node metastasis (cN0) to show the lymph flow from primary tumors, and evaluated its value in the lymph node biopsy of cN0 papillary thyroid carcinoma and protection of parathyroid.
Patients And Methods: One hundred and fourteen patients with cN0 papillary thyroid carcinoma were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received carbon nanoparticles injection around the primary tumor, while the control group received no injection.

In this study, we evaluated C-kit immunohistochemical expression and C-kit and platelet derived growth factor receptor A (PDGFRA) gene mutations in triple negative breast cancer. 171 cases were analyzed by immunohistochemical staining for the expression of C-kit and 45 cases, including 10 C-kit negative cases and 35 C-kit positive cases, were performed for C-kit gene mutations in exons 9, 11, 13 and 17 and PDGFRA gene mutations in exons 12 and 18. C-kit expression was detected in 42.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the protein expression and gene amplification of epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) in intraepithelial neoplasias and squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix and to determine the value of EGFR in carcinogenesis, progression, and prognosis of cervical cancer. EGFR protein expression and gene amplification involved gene copy number in 75 cases of cervical various lesions were evaluated using immunohistochemistry and by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) techniques. Expression of EGFR was observed in 76.

In this paper, we established a theoretical model to investigate the local heating effect of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) aggregate on the support lipid bilayers (SLBs) under external alternating current (AC) magnetic field, which may be helpful to understand hyperthermia at single cell level. Using atomic force microscope (AFM), the transformation of the support phospholipid bilayers surrounding MNPs aggregate was observed in real-time. We found that the fluidity of lipid bilayers changed when the size of MNPs aggregate larger than 200 nm, as a result of magnetic heating in the AC magnetic field.

Mutation analysis of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is essential in determining the therapeutic strategy for lung adenocarcinoma. Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining with EGFR mutation-specific antibodies of del E746-A750 in exon 19 and L858R in exon 21 has been evaluated in resection specimens in a few studies but rarely in biopsy samples. A total of 169 cases (78 biopsies and 91 resected specimens) of lung adenocarcinoma with EGFR mutation status predefined by direct DNA sequencing were histologically examined, and IHC was performed using EGFR mutation-specific antibodies of del E746-A750 and L858R.

Amplification of the human telomerase RNA component (TERC) gene was found in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, its roles in the progression and prognosis of ESCC have not been well understood. The amplification of TERC in normal mucosa, low-grade and high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia, and invasive ESCC samples were evaluated using a fluorescence in situ hybridization assay.

Objective: To evaluate the relevance of molecular alterations and histopathological subtypes of lung adenocarcinoma according to 2011 International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer/American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society International Multidisciplinary Lung Adenocarcinoma Classification.
Methods: Mutations of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) 18-21 exons (E18-21), KRAS 12/13 codons and EML4-ALK fusion in 212 cases of lung adenocarcinoma which underwent complete tumor resection, were detected by immunohistochemistry, PCR-amplifying and gene sequencing. The relevance of the molecular alterations to histopathological subtypes based on the new classification and 2004 WHO classification were further characterized.

Eph receptors play important roles in the development of cancer. The present study aimed to investigate the expression of EphA1 and its clinicopathologic significance in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The expression levels of the EphA1 transcript and protein were compared between ESCC and matched normal mucosa in the same patient.

Noninvasive imaging techniques have been considered important strategies in the clinic to monitor tumor early response to therapy. In the present study, we applied RGD peptides conjugated to iron oxide nanoparticles (IONP-RGD) as contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to noninvasively monitor the response of a vascular disrupting agent VEGF(121)/rGel in an orthotopic glioblastoma model. RGD peptides were firstly coupled to IONPs coated with a crosslinked PEGylated amphiphilic triblock copolymer.

Metaplastic thymoma is a rare primary thymic epithelial tumor, and its biologic behavior is uncertain. We report 7 cases of metaplastic thymoma. The spindle components of the tumor seemed to be undergoing epithelial-mesenchymal transition, which is characterized by the loss of E-cadherin expression.

Calcifying nested stromal-epithelial tumor (CNSET) of the liver is extremely rare. This tumor is characterized by nests of epithelial and spindle cells, an associated desmoplastic stroma, as well as variable calcifications and ossifications. Only 24 cases have been reported in the literature whereas none has been reported in Asian descendants.

Endolymphatic sac tumors (ELSTs) are very rare and locally aggressive low-grade neoplasm of endolymphatic system origin, which are associated with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease. Evidence suggests that the specific VHL alteration influences the phenotype. Because of the rarity of ELSTs, only a small number of cases have been subjected to molecular genetic analysis.
