Intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a potentially severe clinical syndrome after major surgical procedures. In addition to causing intestinal mucosa injury, intestinal IRI further damages distant organs, causing the severity of the condition in patients. So far, effective therapy for intestinal IRI is still absent, and the survival rate of the patients is low.

Background: Immunotherapies, such as oncolytic viruses, have become powerful cancer treatments, but only some patients with cancer can benefit from them, especially those with advanced-stage cancer, and new therapeutic strategies are needed to facilitate extended survival. The intestinal microbiota may contribute to colorectal cancer (CRC) carcinogenesis and the response to immunotherapy. However, whether and how the intestinal microbiota modulates the effects of oncolytic virus vaccines (OVVs) in CRC remain to be investigated.

Introduction: With the development of vascular intervention, pseudoaneurysm complications are increasing. Ultrasound-guided thrombin injection (UGTI) is currently the treatment of choice for pseudoaneurysm, but the pharmacological properties of thrombin may trigger acute thrombosis within the vessel lumen. Despite a very low incidence, this type of primary arterial thrombosis is a serious complication of UGTI, and cases involving multiple branches of the lower limb arteries are particularly rare.

Lung cancer is a global public health issue, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounting for 80-85 % of cases. With over two million new diagnoses annually, understanding the complex evolution of this disease is crucial. The development of lung cancer involves a complex interplay of genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors, leading the key oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes to disorder, and activating the cancer related signaling pathway.

Gasdermin (GSDM) family members are involved in numerous biological processes, including pyroptosis, as well as in the initiation and progression of various types of cancer. However, the specific role of GSDM genes in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) has yet to be fully clarified. The present study investigated the differential expression and genetic alterations GSDM genes, their effects on prognosis and immune modulation, and their functional enrichment in ccRCC.

Background: Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) contributes to inflammation and fibrosis of the neighboring myocardial tissue via paracrine signaling. In this retrospective study, we investigated the abnormal changes in the amount of EAT in male children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. Furthermore, we constructed and validated a nomogram including EAT-related CMR imaging parameter for predicting the occurrence of myocardial fibrosis in patients with DMD.

Background: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a major pathological subtype of malignant lung cancer with a poor prognosis. Necroptosis is a caspase-independent programmed cell death mode that plays a pivotal role in cancer oncogenesis and metastasis. Here, we explore the prognostic values of different necroptosis-related genes (NRGs) in LUAD.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is the second most common malignancy among primary liver cancers, with an increasing overall incidence and poor prognosis. The intertumoral and intratumoral heterogeneity of ICC makes it difficult to find efficient drug therapies. Therefore, it is essential to identify tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes that induce ICC formation and progression.

The mechanism of cell damage during acute pancreatitis (AP) has not been fully elucidated, and there is still a lack of specific or effective treatments. Increasing evidence has implicated mitochondrial dysfunction as a key event in the pathophysiology of AP. Mitochondrial dysfunction is closely related to calcium (Ca) overload, intracellular adenosine triphosphate depletion, mitochondrial permeability transition pore openings, loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, mitophagy damage and inflammatory responses.

Background: Sorafenib is a classic molecular targeted drug approved for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) therapy. However, a poor response rate and increasing resistance to sorafenib make its therapeutic efficacy suboptimal. Combination treatment with an agent capable of potentiating sorafenib sensitivity may be a promising solution.

Background And Aims: Uncertainty persists over the effects of blood pressure (BP) lowering in acute stroke. The INTEnsive ambulance-delivered blood pressure Reduction in hyper-Acute stroke Trial (INTERACT4) aims to determine efficacy and safety of hyperacute intensive BP lowering in patients with suspected acute stroke. Given concerns over the safety of this treatment in the pre-hospital setting, particularly in relation to patients with intracerebral hemorrhage, we provide an update on progress of the study and profile of participants to date.

Background: In the diagnosis of bloodstream infection (BSI), various inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), interleukins (IL), white blood cell count (WBC), neutrophil percentage (NE%), platelet count (PLT), and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) have been extensively utilized. However, their specific roles in distinguishing BSI from local bacterial infection (LBI) and in classifying BSI pathogens remain uncertain.
Methods: A historical cohort study was conducted, involving the enrollment of 505 patients with BSI and 102 patients with LBI.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is an effective tumor treatment strategy that not only induces photocytotoxicity to kill tumor cells directly but also activates the immune system in the body to generate tumor-specific immunity, preventing cancer metastasis and recurrence. However, some limitations of PDT limit the therapeutic efficacy in deep tumors. Previous studies have used different types of nanoparticles (NPs) as drug carriers of photosensitizers (PSs) to overcome the shortcomings of PDT and improve therapeutic efficacy.

Irregular bone defects of the humerus are common in clinical practice, but there are fewer reported cases of irregular humeral defects accompanied by shoulder joint "locking" dislocation and reverse Hill-Sachs injury caused by an electric shock. The choice of treatment for such cases is closely related to the extent of shoulder joint function recovery. This is a case report of a 60-year-old male patient who suffered from a shoulder joint "locking" dislocation with accompanying reverse Hill-Sachs injury due to muscle contraction after being electrically shocked at work.

Osteopontin (OPN) is a multifunctional protein secreted intracellularly and extracellularly by various cell types, including NK cells, macrophages, osteoblasts, T cells, and cancer cells. Owing to its diverse distribution, OPN plays a role in cell proliferation, stem-cell-like properties, epithelial-mesenchymal transformation, glycolysis, angiogenesis, fibrosis, invasion, and metastasis. In this review, we discuss recent findings, interpret representative studies on OPN expression in cancer, clarify that elevated OPN levels are observed in multiple cancer types (including colorectal, breast, lung, and liver cancer), and explore how OPN-macrophage interactions shape the tumor microenvironment.
