Alcoholic liver cirrhosis (ALC) is the most common indication for liver transplantation (LT) in Croatia and presents a risk factor for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, genetic susceptibility has not yet been systematically studied. We aimed to investigate the contribution of the risk polymorphisms rs738409, rs4444903, rs58542926, rs1801133, previously identified in other populations and, additionally, the contribution of Notch-related polymorphisms ( rs3124591, rs1043996 and rs1044116, rs422951).

Even in 2021, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) remains a major global health concern, especially in developing countries. The burden of this disease, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which affects not only primary respiratory but also other organ systems, keeps rising as the pandemic continues. Primary health care centers are the first line where COVID-19 patients are managed and should be able to manage the vast majority of them successfully.

SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2) is a novel virus that has been identified as a causal agent of COVID-19, an emergent infectious disease which brought about a new pandemic in the twenty-first century. The immune responses and clinical features of individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 have not yet been fully described. Thus, in this study, we compare the seroprevalence and define the correlation between symptoms and serological results in the first COVID-19 cluster in the city of Konjic, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Coronary artery disease as a consequence of atherosclerosis is the most common cause of morbidity and mortality in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients. Homocysteine (HCY), as one of the risk factors, and uric acid (UA) as the most common antioxidant in serum have their roles in the processes of inflammation and atherogenesis, which underlie the pathogenesis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The effect of HCY in cardiovascular disease is thought to be manifested primarily through oxidative damage, implying a potential correlation between the HCY level and antioxidant status.

Objective: We aimed to confirm whether serum on admission homocysteine level (HCY) and red cell distribution width (RDW) value are independent risk factors for MACE incidence in patients with STEMI myocardial infarction treated by percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), as well as the possibility of their joint assessment in order to enhance the risk stratification for major adverse cardiac events (MACE).
Patients And Methods: A total of 80 patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) were included in the study and tested for blood HCY and RDW values. Patients were followed up for six months after discharge and evaluated for MACE occurrence.
