Laser acupuncture treatment of neuropathic pain in a boy with brain tumour.

Neuropathic pain occurrence is associated with some cytostatic and antibiotics use. Pharmacological therapy for the treatment of neuropathic pain is sometimes unsuccessful, and complementary methods like acupuncture are included. In this case report, a 14-year-old boy with cerebral tumour and neuropathic pain in his feet after chemotherapy and linezolid use is presented.

Antiproliferative and proapoptotic activity of molecular copper(II) complex of N-1-tosylcytosine.

In an attempt to enhance the previously observed antiproliferative capacity of 1-(p-toluenesulfonyl)cytosine (N-1-tosylcytosine, ligand 1), its copper(II) complex (Cu(1-TsC-N3)Cl, complex 2) was prepared and tested in vitro on various carcinoma and leukemia cells. Satisfaction with psychiatric in-patient care as rated by patients at discharge from hospitals in 11 countries.

Purpose: There is disregard in the scientific literature for the evaluation of psychiatric in-patient care as rated directly by patients. In this context, we aimed to explore satisfaction of people treated in mental health in-patient facilities. The project was a part of the Young Psychiatrist Program by the Association for the Improvement of Mental Health Programmes.

Knee stability after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using the middle third of the patellar ligament and quadrupled hamstring tendons grafts - A two-year follow-up.

Knee stability after surgical anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using quadrupled hamstring tendons graft (gracilis and semitendinosus) was compared with that using the middle third of the patellar ligament. All subjects participating in this study had ACL rupture diagnosed by clinical examination and MRI and underwent identical surgical procedure apart from the choice of graft. A total of 112 patients with either patellar ligament or quadrupled hamstring tendons graft were evaluated for 24 months following surgery.

Croatian survey on critical results reporting.

Introduction: Poor harmonization of critical results management is present in various laboratories and countries, including Croatia. We aimed to investigate procedures used in critical results reporting in Croatian medical biochemistry laboratories (MBLs).

Materials And Methods: An anonymous questionnaire, consisting of 24 questions/statements, related to critical results reporting procedures, was send to managers of MBLs in Croatia.

Single nucleotide polymorphism of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) is associated with juvenile spondyloarthritis in Croatian population.

Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of toll-like and NOD-like receptors have been associated with altered receptor activity and modified production of proinflammatory cytokines leading to a number of diseases. Our aim was to determine whether SNP of TLR2 (Arg753Gln), TLR4 (Asp299Gly, Thr399Ile), and NLRP3 (Q705K) influence susceptibility to juvenile spondyloarthrtis (jSpA) and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). After the DNA extraction, 26 patients with jSpA, 11 with oligoarticular, polyarticular, or systemic JIA, and 40 healthy controls were genotyped for Arg753Gln, Asp299Gly, Thr399Ile, and Q705K SNP using real-time PCR-SNP analysis.

Influence of various factors on functional dyspepsia.

Aim of the research is to establish the prevalence of dyspepsia in Osječko-baranjska County, to establish its specific characteristics and to determine the effect of demographic, anthropometric, and socioeconomic factors. It is a cross-sectional and case control study conducted in 2010 on systematic sample of 900 subjects between 20 and 69 years of age. Every subject was sent an invitation letter and a Rome III diagnostic questionnaire for one of the disorders.

Subclavian fusiform aneurysm causing partial subclavian steal syndrome. Case report.

We present a 55-year-old man with repeated transient symptoms of vertebrobasilar arterial pathology. Physical examination detected no signs that would indicate the stenosis of the proximal subclavian artery segment. Ultrasound detected hemodynamic disorder of right vertebral artery, which correspond to a partial subclavian steal syndrome.

Basic cognitive functions across the menstrual cycle in a controlled female cohort.

Aim: Adipose tissue possess endocrine functions that include synthesis of various adipocytokines, which affect the metabolism of lipids and glucoses, development of atherosclerotic processes, and are involved in the development of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Body fat distribution is a significant risk factor for the development of obesity related diseases. Leptin and adiponectin are adipokines whose concentrations vary with the level of obesity.

Metabolic syndrome and psychotropic medications.

Metabolic syndrome represents a cluster of interrelated metabolic dysfunctions which are risk factors for the development of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Results of clinical studies suggest significant effects of certain psychotropic medications on weight gain and manifestation of type II diabetes. Exploring possibilities in nasal polyposis treatment at one Croatian hospital.

Methods: This is a retrospective study exploring data on the NP surgery during a five-year period at the Ear, Nose and Throat Department at Clinical Hospital Centre Osijek, Croatia. Data were analysed regarding patients' gender, age, type of the surgery performed, and possible recurrence.

Thrombosis of the internal jugular vein after tympanoplasty caused by interaction of oral contraceptives and hereditary hypofibrinolysis.

This case report describes a case of venous thrombosis in a young woman who had undergone tympanoplasty due to chronic otitis media. Other than that she was healthy. According to the anamnesis she stopped taking oral contraceptive pills (OCP) a month before the surgery.
