Machine learning-based prediction of microsatellite instability and high tumor mutation burden from contrast-enhanced computed tomography in endometrial cancers.

To evaluate whether radiomic features from contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) can identify DNA mismatch repair deficient (MMR-D) and/or tumor mutational burden-high (TMB-H) endometrial cancers (ECs). Patients who underwent targeted massively parallel sequencing of primary ECs between 2014 and 2018 and preoperative CE-CT were included (n = 150). Molecular subtypes of EC were assigned using DNA polymerase epsilon (POLE) hotspot mutations and immunohistochemistry-based p53 and MMR protein expression.

Aerosolized Calfactant for Newborns With Respiratory Distress: A Randomized Trial.

Background: Exogenous surfactants to treat respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) are approved for tracheal instillation only; this requires intubation, often followed by positive pressure ventilation to promote distribution. Aerosol delivery offers a safer alternative, but clinical studies have had mixed results. We hypothesized that efficient aerosolization of a surfactant with low viscosity, early in the course of RDS, could reduce the need for intubation and instillation of liquid surfactant.

Revision of Acetabular Component with a Debonded Porous Coating in an Elderly Patient.

Debonding of the porous coating from the acetabular component of a total hip endoprosthesis is a rare complication. Revision total hip arthroplasty for an unstable acetabular component with a debonded porous coating strongly fixed to the bone can be challenging, especially in elderly patients of poor overall health. In such patients, revision procedures should be as simple and safe as possible.

Early Outcomes in the ROADSTER 2 Study of Transcarotid Artery Revascularization in Patients With Significant Carotid Artery Disease.

Background And Purpose: Transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR) is comprised of carotid artery stent placement with cerebral protection via proximal carotid artery clamping and reversal of cerebral arterial flow. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of TCAR performed by a broad group of physicians with variable TCAR experience.

Methods: The ROADSTER 2 study is a prospective, open label, single arm, multicenter, postapproval registry for patients undergoing TCAR.

Retrorenal fat predicts grade C pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Background: Pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy is one of the most severe complications with mortality rates as high as 45%, and the prediction of most severe form of fistula (grade C) is crucial for successful management of patients who are to undergo cephalic pancreatoduodenectomy. It has been found that the amount of abdominal fat may predict grade C postoperative pancreatic fistula. In this study, we analysed the value of retrorenal fat thickness in the prediction of grade C pancreatic fistula.

A Year in the Life of the EU-CardioRNA COST Action: CA17129 Catalysing Transcriptomics Research in Cardiovascular Disease.

The EU-CardioRNA Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action is a European-wide consortium established in 2018 with 31 European country members and four associate member countries to build bridges between translational researchers from academia and industry who conduct research on non-coding RNAs, cardiovascular diseases and similar research areas. EU-CardioRNA comprises four core working groups (WG1-4). In the first year since its launch, EU-CardioRNA met biannually to exchange and discuss recent findings in related fields of scientific research, with scientific sessions broadly divided up according to WG.

Impact of contemporary therapy- concepts on surgical morbidity in breast cancer patients: A retrospective single center analysis of 829 patients.

Introduction: Morbidity after breast cancer surgery remains low with revision surgery below 5%. This retrospective monocentric study investigates whether new methods like neoadjuvant chemotherapy (nCT), oncoplastic surgery (OPS) or intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) affect overall morbidity. Background: STEPAUT, an Austrian non-interventional study, evaluated the safety and efficacy of everolimus plus exemestane in patients with hormone receptor-positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) advanced breast cancer (ABC) recurring/progressing on/after nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitors (NSAIs) in routine clinical practice.

Methods: Postmenopausal women with HR+, HER2- ABC progressing on/after NSAIs receiving everolimus plus exemestane in accordance with routine practice and the current version of Summary of Product Characteristics were eligible. Planned individual observation period corresponded to the duration of treatment until formal study end.

Human primitive-streak remnants develop sacrococcygeal teratomas that may recur even when benign (well differentiated).

The epidemiological and clinical features of odontogenic infective endocarditis.

Antibiotic prophylaxis (AP) of infective endocarditis (IE) in dental practice is a controversial topic. We evaluated the characteristics of the odontogenic IE and assessed the practice and sources of information pertaining to the topic utilized by the Croatian dentists. We conducted a retrospective review of consecutive medical charts of adult patients with IE, admitted to the University Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Zagreb, Croatia, between January 2007 and December 2017.

Effect of Optimal Thyroid Replacement Therapy on Chronic Hyponatremia with Focused Review of the Evidence, Mechanisms, and Clinical Implications.

We present an unusual case of hyponatremia in an ambulatory hypothyroid patient and review related published literature on PubMed including, original articles, reviews and case reports that describe or refute the association and mechanism for the development of hyponatremia in hypothyroidism. A 50-year-old female presented in ambulatory clinic with complaints of bilateral hand swelling, fatigue, dizziness, and unsteadiness while walking. Laboratory investigations revealed that she had hypothyroidism and hyponatremia.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of salivary pepsin with oropharyngeal pH monitoring using the Restech measurement system (Dx-pH) for the diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR).

Study Design: Prospective cohort study.

Methods: Seventy patients with primary symptoms related to LPR underwent gastroscopy, high-resolution manometry, pH throughout 24-hour monitoring (MII-pH), and barium esophagography between October 2015 and May 2018.

Relapse Prevention with Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors after Allogeneic Transplantation for Philadelphia Chromosome-Positive Acute Lymphoblast Leukemia: A Systematic Review.

Relapse after stem cell transplantation for Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) remains a significant challenge. In this systematic review, we compare survival outcomes of second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) nilotinib and dasatinib with first-generation TKI imatinib when these agents are used after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) in Ph+ ALL. In addition, we review the literature on TKI use to prevent relapse in patients who proceed to allo-HSCT beyond first complete response (>CR1).

Serum concentrations of free fatty acids are associated with 3-month mortality in acute heart failure patients.

Background Plasma free fatty acids (FFA) are higher in heart failure (HF) patients compared to healthy controls. Considering that the extent of FFA elevation in HF might mirror the severity of HF, we hypothesized that the serum levels of FFA may be a useful prognostic indicator for 3-month mortality in acute heart failure (AHF). Methods We analyzed the serum samples of AHF patients obtained at admission to the emergency department.
