Introduction: Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) is one of the most common complications seen both in early and late stages of sepsis, with a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations ranging from mild neurological dysfunction to delirium and coma. The pathophysiology of SAE is still not completely understood, and the diagnosis can be challenging especially in early stages of sepsis and in patients with subtle symptoms.
Aim Of The Study: The objective of this study was to assess the coagulation profile in patients with early SAE and to compare the hemostatic parameters between septic patients with and without SAE in the first 24 hours from sepsis diagnosis.

In the latter part of the 20th century, remarkable developments in new dental materials and technologies were achieved. However, regarding the impact of dental resin-based materials 3D-printed on cellular responses, there have been a limited number of published studies recently. The biocompatibility of dental restorative materials is a controversial topic, especially when discussing modern manufacturing technologies.

: Blunt thoracic trauma possesses unique physiopathological traits due to the complex interaction of immune and coagulation systems in the lung tissue. Hemogram-based ratios such as neutrophil-to-lymphocyte (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte (PLR), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte × platelet (NLPR) ratios have been studied as proxies for immune dysregulation and survival in trauma. We hypothesized that blunt thoracic trauma patients exhibit distinct patterns of coagulation and inflammation abnormalities identifiable by the use of readily available hemogram-derived markers.

: The complexity of trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC) is a result of the unique interactions between the patient, trauma, and resuscitation-related causes. The main objective of trauma resuscitation is to create the optimal milieu for both the development of immediate reparatory mechanisms and the prevention of further secondary injuries. Endotheliopathy represents one of the hallmarks of trauma-induced coagulopathy, and comprises endothelial dysfunction, abnormal coagulation, and inflammation, all of which arise after severe trauma and hemorrhagic shock.

Coagulopathy and traumatic brain injury (TBI) are complexly intertwined. In isolated TBI, coagulopathy may contribute to hemorrhagic lesion development, progression, or recurrence, as it may lead to a particular pattern of coagulopathy called TBI-induced coagulopathy (TBI-IC). We performed a retrospective and descriptive evaluation of 63 patients admitted to the Emergency Clinical Hospital Bucharest with the diagnosis of moderate/severe brain injury.

The mainstay treatment of non-small-cell lung carcinoma is still surgery, but its impact on survival beyond nine years has never been reported/analysed in Romania. Therefore, we studied the clinical characteristics and the short- and long-term survival of a population of 1369 patients diagnosed and treated in a single institution, with the variables included in the database being collected retrospectively. In this paper, we aimed to study a number of factors that might influence prognosis and survival in non-small bronchopulmonary carcinoma.

Ectopic pregnancies are a frequently encountered cause of first-trimester metrorrhagia. They occur when an embryo is implanted and grows outside the normal uterine space. Uncommonly, the embryo can be implanted in the intramural portion of the uterine tube, a condition referred to as interstitial localization.

Purpose Of Review: Thiamine is a crucial component in cellular energy metabolism, serving as a cofactor for multiple enzymatic processes and also having a role in regulating neuronal and neuromuscular transmission. Also it exerts antioxidant proprieties. The objective of this review is to consolidate and assess the most recent research concerning the consequences of insufficient thiamine levels for critically ill patients and to examine thiamine-related interventions.

Peri-pancreatic fluid collections are late complications of acute pancreatitis. Loculated peri-pancreatic fluid collections, even rare, remain the "black sheep" in terms of drainage, due to difficulty to puncture all compartments, thus prohibiting proper drainage of all compartments. Recombined tissue plasminogen activator (r-tPA) has been advocated as treatment of the loculated collections, due to its ability to dissolve the fibrinous strands and thus facilitate proper drainage.

Objective: Early disease prediction is challenging in acute pancreatitis (AP). Here, we prospectively investigate whether the microbiome predicts severity of AP (Pancreatitis-Microbiome As Predictor of Severity; P-MAPS) early at hospital admission.
Design: Buccal and rectal microbial swabs were collected from 424 patients with AP within 72 hours of hospital admission in 15 European centres.

The administration of intravenous lipid emulsion (ILE) is a proven antidote used to reverse local anesthetic-related systemic toxicity. Although the capacity of ILE to generate blood tissue partitioning of lipophilic drugs has been previously demonstrated, a clear recommendation for its use as an antidote for other lipophilic drugs is still under debate. Venlafaxine (an antidepressant acting as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI)) and quetiapine (a second-generation atypical antipsychotic) are widely used in the treatment of psychotic disorders.

Background: Coronary artery bypass grafting has evolved from all venous grafts to bilateral mammary artery (BIMA) grafting. This was possible due to the long-term patency of the left and right internal mammary demonstrated in angiography studies compared to venous grafts. However, despite higher survival rates when using bilateral mammary arteries, multiple studies report a higher rate of surgical site infections, most notably deep sternal wound infections, a so-called "never event".

The body's defense against environmental factors is realized by physical barriers and cells of both the innate and adaptive immune systems. Patients with end stage kidney disease (ESKD), especially those treated by hemodialysis, have changes in both the function and the number or percent of different leukocyte subsets. Changes were described at the level of monocytes and lymphocyte subsets, which are associated with immunodeficiencies and pro-inflammatory status correlated with degenerative changes and increased cardiovascular risk.

Hemorrhage is a detrimental event present in traumatic injury, surgery, and disorders of bleeding that can become life-threatening if not properly managed. Moreover, uncontrolled bleeding can complicate surgical interventions, altering the outcome of surgical procedures. Therefore, to reduce the risk of complications and decrease the risk of morbidity and mortality associated with hemorrhage, it is necessary to use an effective hemostatic agent that ensures the immediate control of bleeding.

Considering the prioritization of life-threatening injuries in trauma care, secondary dysfunctions such as ventilator-induced diaphragmatic dysfunction (VIDD) are often overlooked. VIDD is an entity induced by muscle inactivity during invasive mechanical ventilation, associated with a profound loss of diaphragm muscle mass. In order to assess the incidence of VIDD in polytrauma patients, we performed an observational, retrospective, longitudinal study that included 24 polytraumatized patients.

3D rotational angiography is now increasingly used in routine neuroendovascular procedures--in particular, for situations where the analysis of two overlayed sets of volume imaging proves useful for planning the treatment strategy or for confirming the optimal apposition of the intravascular devices used. The aim of this study is to identify and describe the decision algorithm for which the overlay function of 3D rotational angiography volumes, high-resolution contrast-enhanced flat panel detector CT adapted for intravascular devices (VasoCT/DynaCT), non-enhanced flat detector C-arm volume acquisition functionality integrated with the angiography equipment (XperCT/DynaCT), and isovolumetric MRI volumes were all used in treatments performed in a series of 29 patients. Two superposed 3DRA volumes were used in the treatment aneurysms located at the junction of two vascular territories and for arteriovenous malformations with compartments fed from different vascular territories.
