Cancer immunotherapy has shifted the paradigm in cancer treatment in recent years. In spite of these results, the current state-of-the-art immunotherapy has its limitations in efficacy.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) undermines health and quality of life (QoL). This cross-sectional study surveyed 138 consenting T2DM patients from North-Eastern Romania with regard to their satisfaction with treatment, diabetes-related impact on QoL, and general health. The Romanian versions of Diabetes Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire (DTSQ), Audit of Diabetes Dependent Quality of Life (ADDQoL-19), and 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) questionnaires were used.

Here we present a case of a 61-year-old woman brought by ambulance to emergency department one hour after accidental ingestion of an unknown quantity of a solution she used against flea infestation.

European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2021: Systems saving lives.

The European Resuscitation Council (ERC) has produced these Systems Saving Lives guidelines, which are based on the 2020 International Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Science with Treatment Recommendations. The topics covered include chain of survival, measuring performance of resuscitation, social media and smartphones apps for engaging community, European Restart a Heart Day, World Restart a Heart, KIDS SAVE LIVES campaign, lower-resource setting, European Resuscitation Academy and Global Resuscitation Alliance, early warning scores, rapid response systems, and medical emergency team, cardiac arrest centres and role of dispatcher.

The influence of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome on anthropometric parameters at 12 months after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

The aim of this study was to assess the influence of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) on the change in anthropometric parameters and body composition, in patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). This prospective study included patients undergoing LSG who had pre-operative polysomnography data and were also evaluated at six and 12 months after surgery. All patients included also had whole body composition analysis data before surgery and at six and 12 months after surgery.

Association of Multiple Glycemic Parameters at Hospital Admission with Mortality and Short-Term Outcomes in Acutely Poisoned Patients.

The prognostic value of multiple glycemic parameters in poisoned patients was never assessed. We aim to explore the effects of glucose variability on short-term outcomes in nondiabetic and diabetic patients acutely poisoned with undifferentiated xenobiotics. We performed a prospective observational study in a tertiary center for toxicology in northeastern Romania.

Gut microbiota changes in inflammatory bowel diseases and ankylosing spondilytis.

Background And Aims: Both inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS) can be considered chronic immune disorders sharing common etiopathogenetic mechanisms. Changes in the composition of the intestinal microbiota, which can lead to an abnormal mucosal response, could be the missing link between these two diseases. Our study evaluate the composition of intestinal microbiota and to characterize gut dysbiosis in patients with IBD and AS.

Over recent years, studies have shown that in patients with left-sided heart failure, arterial hypertension, and acute coronary syndrome, hyponatremia is a negative prognostic factor. In this context, there is raising interest in the association between hyponatremia and pulmonary embolism (PE). This retrospective cohort study includes 404 consecutive patients with confirmed acute nonfatal pulmonary embolism divided into four groups according to their sodium fluctuation pattern.

The number of infections related to cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) has increased as the number of devices implanted around the world has grown exponentially in recent years. CIED complications can sometimes be difficult to diagnose and manage, as in the case of lead-related infective endocarditis. We present the case of a 48-year-old male diagnosed with Staphylococcus aureus device-related infective endocarditis, 12 years after the implant of a single chamber pacemaker.

Value of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome-a new ultrasonographic index in carpal tunnel syndrome diagnosis: A clinical study.

We analyze the effectiveness of ultrasonography in diagnosing carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and propose the use of sonographic index of median nerve (MN) in carpal tunnel (SIMNCT) in a diagnostic algorithm and in establishing a scale of severity.We studied a group of 344 patients with CTS symptoms, examining them by ultrasound. We measured in all patients, on the affected hand: the size of the cross-sectional area of the MN at carpal tunnel (CT) inlet and outlet, nerve morphology at passage through CT, the vertical thickness of the MN entering into the CT - G1, the lowest vertical thickness into the CT or leaving the CT - G2, the thickness of the MN in the transversal plane as entering in the CT - L.

Sleep Impairment and Psychological Distress among Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease-beyond the Obvious.

Background: A healthy sleep-wake cycle is fundamental for regulating immune function. Sleepiness and fatigue are often manifestations of chronic inflammatory disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), potentially influencing the course of the disease. Our aim was to characterize sleep impairment in patients with IBD and to identify potential associated factors.

This study aimed to determine the most frequent clinical aspects in patients with odontogenic orbital inflammation, the computed tomography (CT) aspect, and the most appropriate treatment.
