Rapamycin Pretreatment Attenuates High Glucose-induced Alteration of Synaptic Transmission in Hippocampal Dentate Gyrus Neurons.

Neuroscience

May 2022

Medical School, State Key Laboratory of Medicinal Chemical Biology, Key Laboratory of Bioactive Materials for Ministry of Education, Nankai University, Tianjin 300071, China. Electronic address:

Diabetic neuropathy is one of the most common complications in patients with diabetes and leads to cognitive impairment. It is suggested that protracted hyperglycemia is the main trigger of cognitive deficits in diabetes and causes hippocampal abnormalities. Rapamycin, an inhibitor of mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1), can significantly ameliorate cognitive deficits in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and Huntington disease.

Background: Diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP) is a common chronic pain condition affecting diabetic patients and has growing importance because of the increasing prevalence of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Pain is the most troublesome symptom of DPNP, increasingly recognized as an important and independent feature of DPNP. This meta-analysis aims to compare the efficacy and safety of duloxetine and gabapentin in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP) and therefore to provide evidence-based medicine for clinical treatment.

ZNF498 promotes hepatocellular carcinogenesis by suppressing p53-mediated apoptosis and ferroptosis via the attenuation of p53 Ser46 phosphorylation.

J Exp Clin Cancer Res

February 2022

State Key Laboratory of Proteomics, Beijing Proteome Research Center, National Center for Protein Sciences (Beijing), Beijing Institute of Lifeomics, Beijing, 102206, China.

Background: Dysfunctional p53 signaling is one of the major causes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumorigenesis and development, but the mechanisms underlying p53 inactivation in HCC have not been fully clarified. The role of Krüppel-associated box (KRAB)-type zinc-finger protein ZNF498 in tumorigenesis and the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood.

Methods: Clinical HCC samples were used to assess the association of ZNF498 expression with clinicopathological characteristics and patient outcomes.

Department of Cardiovascular, Tianjin Fourth Central Hospital, The Fourth Central Hospital Affilicated to Nankai University, The Fourth Central Clinical College of Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin, China.

Observational studies have evaluated the potential association of socioeconomic factors such as higher education with the risk of stroke but reported controversial findings. The objective of our study was to evaluate the potential causal association between higher education and the risk of stroke. Here, we performed a Mendelian randomization analysis to evaluate the potential association of educational attainment with ischemic stroke (IS) using large-scale GWAS datasets from the Social Science Genetic Association Consortium (SSGAC, 293,723 individuals), UK Biobank (111,349 individuals), and METASTROKE consortium (74,393 individuals).

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) damages lung epithelial stem/progenitor cells. Ideal anti-SARS-CoV-2 drug candidates should be screened to prevent secondary injury to the lungs. Here, we propose that in vitro three-dimensional organoid and lung injury repair mouse models are powerful models for the screening antiviral drugs.

miR-424 inhibits apoptosis and inflammatory responses induced by sevoflurane through TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway.

BMC Anesthesiol

February 2022

Department of Anesthesiology, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, 154 Anshan Road, Heping District, Tianjin, 362255, China.

Background: Side effects of sevoflurane in anterograde and retrograde memory have been widely reported. However, there is no convincing evidence that sevoflurane directly causes the development of neurotoxicity. miR-424 has the potential to regulate the neurotoxicity caused by isoflurane anesthesia, and it has a complementary sequence with the 3'UTR region of TLR4.

We studied the efficacy and safety of the combined treatment with programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) inhibitors and anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy and subsequent PD-1 inhibitor maintenance treatment in patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and high tumor burden. Forty-four R/R DLBCL patients with high tumor burden were enrolled in this study. The experimental group of 26 patients received combined therapy with PD-1 inhibitors and anti-CD19-CAR T cells, while the control group of 18 patients received anti-CD19-CAR T-cell therapy alone.

Acute liver injury is a serious clinical syndrome with multiple causes and unclear pathological process. Here, CCl - and D-galactosamine/lipopolysaccharide (D-gal/LPS)-induced acute liver injury was established to explore the cell death patterns and determine whether or not liver regeneration occurred. In CCl -induced hepatic injury, three phases, including the early, progressive, and recovery phase, were considered based on alterations of serum transaminases and liver morphology.

April 2022

Department of Ultrasound, The Third Central Hospital of Tianjin/Tianjin Key Laboratory of Extracorporeal Life Support for Critical Diseases/Artificial Cell Engineering Technology Research Center, Tianjin, China/Tianjin Institute of Hepatobiliary Disease, Tianjin, China, 83 Jintang Road, Hedong District, Tianjin, 300170, China.

Background And Aims: Hepato-renal index (HRI) has been investigated extensively in various clinical studies. New linear scale HRI (LS-HRI) is proposed as an alternative to conventional grayscale HRI (GS-HRI) that suffers from lack of a widely accepted cut-off value for differentiation of fatty from normal livers. To investigate the diagnostic performance of conventional GS-HRI and new LS-HRI for a relatively large Chinese population with NAFLD using a well-established ultrasonographic fatty liver indicator (US-FLI) as the reference standard for steatosis grades.

Background And Purpose: Sleep characteristics, including taking a nap and sleep apnea, have been proven to have effects on cognitive function, and apolipoprotein E polymorphism ε4 (APOEε4) has been confirmed to be a risk factor for mild cognitive impairment (MCI), but epidemiological studies linking sleep characteristics and APOEε4 are scarce. We aimed to explore the longitudinal association between sleep characteristics and MCI in an overall cohort, in APOEε4 carriers and in APOEε4 non-carriers.

Methods: We included 3053 older adults from the Tianjin Elderly Nutrition and Cognition Cohort (TENCC) study, recruited from March 2018 to June 2019, and followed up from March 2021 to June 2021.
