Network characteristics of referrals for chronic disease patients: results from hierarchical medical reform in Shenzhen, China.

Background: The Chinese government has introduced a series of hierarchical medical policies to ensure continuity of care, but referrals remain difficult to implement effectively. This study aimed to evaluate the chronic disease referral network and explore the problems associated with the specific implementation of referrals.

Methods: This study was a repeated cross-sectional study of monthly data collected between August 2017 and December 2023 in Luohu district, Shenzhen, China.

Association between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and type1/type2 diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by a complete or partial obstruction of the upper airway, along with hypoxemia, microarousals, and sleep fragmentation. Compelling evidence has clarified a bidirectional correlation between OSA and diabetes mellitus (DM). This paper was to assess the link between OSA and DM via meta-analysis, consisting of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

A prospective multicenter birth cohort in China: pregnancy health atlas.

The China Prospective Multi-Center Birth Cohort Study was launched in 2022. In collaboration with medical centers in 12 cities, it aims to establish a high-quality, multidimensional cohort comprising 20,000 natural pregnancy and assisted reproductive families. As of June 26, 2024, 12,911 pregnant women have participated in this study, and 161,122 biological samples have been collected.

Synergistic intravesical instillation for bladder cancer: CRISPR-Cas13a and fenbendazole combination therapy.

Background: CRISPR-Cas13a is renowned for its precise and potent RNA editing capabilities in cancer therapy. While various material systems have demonstrated efficacy in supporting CRISPR-Cas13a to execute cellular functions in vitro efficiently and specifically, the development of CRISPR-Cas13a-based therapeutic agents for intravesical instillation in bladder cancer (BCa) remains unexplored.

Methods: In this study, we introduce a CRISPR-Cas13a nanoplatform, which effectively inhibits PDL1 expression following intravesical instillation.

Ion channel-mediated mitochondrial volume regulation and its relationship with mitochondrial dynamics.

The mitochondrion, one of the important cellular organelles, has the major function of generating adenosine triphosphate and plays an important role in maintaining cellular homeostasis, governing signal transduction, regulating membrane potential, controlling programmed cell death and modulating cell proliferation. The dynamic balance of mitochondrial volume is an important factor required for maintaining the structural integrity of the organelle and exerting corresponding functions. Changes in the mitochondrial volume are closely reflected in a series of biological functions and pathological changes.

Invasive cellular blue nevus in the cervical spine: A case report.

Introduction: Cellular blue nevus is an uncommon neoplasm in the spine.

Patient Concerns: Here, we present a case of a 24 years old male with a 2 months history of numbness in the right upper limb and shoulder.

Diagnosis: Cervical spine and subcutaneous tissue invasive cellular blue nevus.

Pelvic infection caused by periodontitis: A case report.

Oral bacteria in patients with periodontitis can disseminate into the bloodstream via broken oral epithelial cells, causing odontogenic maxillofacial infections, brain abscesses and endocarditis. However, pelvic infection caused by periodontitis is rare. The case of a 48-year-old woman with a long history of recurrent periodontal infections, who complained of abdominal distention and pain for 14 days after dental implantation, is reported here.

Cervical spine Rosai-Dorfman disease: A case report and literature review.

Background: Rosai-Dorfman disease is a benign lymphatic tissue proliferative disease with slow growth and is rarely observed in the clinic. Most of these patients present clinically with enlarged lymph nodes. In patients with spinal extranodal Rosai-Dorfman disease, which is even rare than the disease of lymph nodes, patients may experience numbness and weakness in the extremities.

Kruppel homolog 1 modulates ROS production and antimicrobial peptides expression in shrimp hemocytes during infection by the strain that causes AHPND.

Shrimp aquaculture has been seriously affected by acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND), caused by a strain of that carries the Pir toxin plasmids ( ). In this study, the transcription factor, Kruppel homolog 1-like of (Kr-h1), was significantly induced in shrimp hemocytes after challenge, suggesting that Kr-h1 is involved in shrimp immune response. Knockdown of Kr-h1 followed by challenge increased bacterial abundance in shrimp hemolymph coupled with high shrimp mortality.
