B7-H3 (CD276), an immune checkpoint molecule, is overexpressed in various types of cancer and their tumor vasculature, demonstrating significant associations with adverse clinical outcomes. In addition to its well-known immune functions, B7-H3 exhibits dual co-stimulatory/co-inhibitory roles in normal physiology and the tumor microenvironment. The non-immune functions of B7-H3 in tumor cells and the tumor vasculature, including promoting tumor cell anti-apoptosis, proliferation, invasion, migration, drug resistance, radioresistance, as well as affecting cellular metabolism and angiogenesis, have increasingly gained attention from researchers.

To summarize the clinical, imaging, and pathological characteristics of mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes syndrome (MELAS) to improve the diagnosis of this rare disease. A retrospective case series was conducted to collect the clinical data and results of genetic testing, muscle biopsy, and imaging studies including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) of 35 patients with MELAS admitted to the Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital from 2012 to 2021. Descriptive statistical analysis including mean, standard deviation, and frequency percentage were carried out.

Glioma is the most common type of primary malignant tumor of the central nervous system (CNS), and is characterized by high malignancy, high recurrence rate and poor survival. Conventional imaging techniques only provide information regarding the anatomical location, morphological characteristics, and enhancement patterns. In contrast, advanced imaging techniques such as dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI or DCE CT can reflect tissue microcirculation, including tumor vascular hyperplasia and vessel permeability.

Purpose: Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is the most common form of sensory deprivation and is often unrecognized by patients, inducing not only auditory but also nonauditory symptoms. Data-driven classifier modeling with the combination of neural static and dynamic imaging features could be effectively used to classify SNHL individuals and healthy controls (HCs).
Methods: We conducted hearing evaluation, neurological scale tests and resting-state MRI on 110 SNHL patients and 106 HCs.

Hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD) in the perinatal period is an important cause of cerebral damage and long-term neurological sequelae, and can place much pressure on families and society. Our previous study demonstrated that miRNA-326 reduces neuronal apoptosis by up-regulating the δ-opioid receptor (DOR) under oxygen-glucose deprivation in vitro. In the present study, we aimed to explore the neuroprotective effects of the miRNA-326/DOR axis by inhibiting apoptosis in HIBD using neonatal miRNA-326 knockout mice.

Background: Previous studies have suggested the potential synergistic antitumor activity when combining immune checkpoint inhibitors with anti-angiogenic agents in various solid tumors. We aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of camrelizumab (a humanized programmed cell death-1 antibody) plus apatinib (a vascular endothelial growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor) for patients with advanced mucosal melanoma (MM), and explore-related biomarkers.
Methods: We conducted a single-center, open-label, single-arm, phase II study.

Background: Circulating atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) levels has been proposed as a novel biomarker for dyslipidemia and as a predictor of insulin resistance (IR) risk. However, the association between AIP and the incidence of new-onset stroke, particularly in individuals with varying glucose metabolism status, remains ambiguous.
Methods: A total of 8727 participants aged 45 years or older without a history of stroke from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) were included in this study.

Objective: To create a nomogram-based model to estimate the Chinese population's 5-year risk of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
Methods: We randomly divided 7582 participants into two groups in a 7:3 ratio: one group was assigned to work with the training set, which consisted of 5307 cases, and the other group was assigned to validate the model using 2275 cases. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator model was employed to ascertain the variables with the highest correlation among all potential variables.

However, optimal therapeutic strategies following T-DM1 failure remain a subject of debate in clinical practice. In this multicenter, retrospective, real-world study, we sought to examine the effectiveness and safety of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) as a therapeutic strategy in HER2-positive MBC who developed T-DM1 resistance.

Background: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are considered first-line medications for acute migraine attacks. However, the response exhibits considerable variability among individuals. Thus, this study aimed to explore a machine learning model based on the percentage of amplitude oscillations (PerAF) and gray matter volume (GMV) to predict the response to NSAIDs in migraine treatment.

Background: Patient-Based Real-Time Quality Control (PBRTQC) has emerged as a supplementary programme to traditional internal quality control (iQC) mechanisms. Despite its growing popularity, practical applications in clinical settings reveal several challenges. The primary objective of this research is to introduce and develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based method, named Voting algorithm based iQC (ViQC), designed to enhance the precision and reliability of existing PBRTQC systems.

The hematopoietic homeostasis in the bone marrow is inextricably intertwined with the immune milieu in peripheral circulation. Researches investigating the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have defined considerable secretion of inflammatory mediators and activation of pro-inflammatory cells. However, the impacts of "extrinsic" factors on hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) remain unclear, and it is uncertain whether treatments can help coordinate the biased differentiation.

Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease characterized by non-caseating epithelioid cell granulomas. One of its immunological hallmarks is the differentiation of CD4 + naïve T cells into Th1/Th17 cells, accompanied by the release of numerous pro-inflammatory cytokines. The TL1A/DR3 signaling pathway plays a crucial role in activating effector lymphocytes, thereby triggering pro-inflammatory responses.

Clinical evidence indicates a close association between muscle dysfunction and bone loss; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we report that muscle dysfunction-related bone loss in humans with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy is associated with decreased expression of folliculin-interacting protein 1 (FNIP1) in muscle tissue. Supporting this finding, murine gain- and loss-of-function genetic models demonstrated that muscle-specific ablation of FNIP1 caused decreased bone mass, increased osteoclastic activity, and mechanical impairment that could be rescued by myofiber-specific expression of FNIP1.

Objective: The aim of this study was to identify potential causal cytokines in thymic malignancies and benign tumors from the FinnGen database using Mendelian randomization (MR).
Methods: In this study, data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of 91 cytokines were used as exposure factors, and those of thymic malignant tumors and thymic benign tumors were the outcome variables. Two methods were used to determine the causal relationship between exposure factors and outcome variables: inverse variance weighting (IVW) and MR-Egger regression.

Tumor vaccines are a promising avenue in cancer immunotherapy. Despite the progress in targeting specific immune epitopes, tumor cells lacking these epitopes can evade the treatment. Here, we aimed to construct an efficient tumor vaccine called Vac-SM, utilizing shikonin (SKN) to induce immunogenic cell death (ICD) and as an immune adjuvant to enhance tumor vaccine efficacy.
