Baseline left ventricular (LV) dysfunction is associated with subsequent risks of acute kidney injury (AKI) and mortality in patients with sepsis. This study investigated the therapeutic effects of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) in hemodynamically unstable patients with severe sepsis and septic shock combined with LV dysfunction. In this multicenter retrospective study, severe sepsis and septic shock patients with LV dysfunction were classified into one of two groups according to the timing of CRRT: the early group (before AKI was detected) or the control group (patients with AKI).

A spinal artery aneurysm originating from the branch of the extracranial vertebral artery is uncommon. Most of them were finally diagnosed due to the evidence of infratentorial or spinal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Herein, we report an extremely rare case of a ruptured spinal artery aneurysm which predominantly presented with supratentorial SAH.

Early detection of lung cancer biointerference-free, target microRNA-triggered core-satellite nanocomposites.

Nanoscale

June 2022

College of Chemistry and Materials Science, Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of advanced Oriented Chemical Engineer, Fujian Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials, Fujian Normal University, Fuzhou, Fujian, 350007, China.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are emerging as essential liquid biopsy markers for early cancer detection. Currently, the clinical applications of miRNAs are lagging behind due to their high sequence similarity and rarity. Herein, we propose biointerference-free, target-triggered core-satellite nanocomposites for ultrasensitive surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) detection of lung cancer-related miRNA-21.

Ultrasound-Guided Radiofrequency Ablation: A New Attempt to the Treatment of Refractory Hyperparathyroidism Secondary to Chronic Kidney Disease.

Kidney Int Rep

February 2022

Department of Ultrasonography, Shengli Clinical College of Fujian Medical University, Fujian Provincial Hospital, Fuzhou, People's Republic of China.

Introduction: To evaluate clinical application value of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in refractory hyperparathyroidism secondary to chronic kidney disease (CKD) by comparing the safety and effectiveness of RFA with parathyroidectomy with autotransplantation (PTX + AT).

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 80 patients with CKD with refractory hyperparathyroidism who underwent RFA or PTX + AT between January 2018 and February 2021. Serum parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, and phosphorus levels, complications, clinical symptoms, visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, hospital stay duration, and postoperative recurrence rate were compared between the 2 groups.

Background: Multiple randomized controlled trials have shown that targeted temperature management (TTM) has favorable effects in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. However, the benefit of TTM in patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) remains to be verified.

Methods: The PubMed, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE databases were searched for clinical studies with the primary outcomes of survival to hospital discharge and neurological outcomes.

Introduction: The current American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) M1a staging of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) encompasses a wide disease spectrum, showing diverse prognosis.

Methods: Patients who diagnosed in an earlier period formed the training cohort, and those who diagnosed thereafter formed the validation cohort. Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed for the training cohort by dividing the M1a stage into three subgroups: (I) malignant pleural effusion (MPE) or malignant pericardial effusion (MPCE); (II) separate tumor nodules in contralateral lung (STCL); and (III) pleural tumor nodules on the ipsilateral lung (PTIL).

Background & Aims: Copper (Cu) is an essential trace element whose serum levels have been reported to act as an effective indicator of the efficacy of radiotherapy. However, little is known about the role of Cu in radiotherapy. In this study we aimed to determine this role and investigate the precise mechanism by which Cu or Cu-related proteins regulate the radiosensitivity of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

A Clot-Homing Near-Infrared Probe for In Vivo Imaging of Murine Thromboembolic Models.

Adv Healthc Mater

April 2022

College of Chemistry, Fuzhou University, No. 2 Wulongjiang North Avenue, Fuzhou, 350108, P. R. China.

Direct thrombus imaging contributes to early detection of thrombosis, and animal models with clinical relevance are vital in the development of new thrombolytics. Here, a facile clot-homing strategy is developed based on the finding that blood clot is negatively charged. Positively charged pentalysine moiety is coupled with phthalocyanine-based fluorophore , and its applications in murine thromboembolic models are described.
