Objective: Cerebral complications may occur after surgery with deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA). Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) has shown promising results in detecting early changes of cerebral ischemia. However, studies in human models are limited.

Clinical outcomes of severe sepsis and septic shock patients with left ventricular dysfunction undergoing continuous renal replacement therapy.

Baseline left ventricular (LV) dysfunction is associated with subsequent risks of acute kidney injury (AKI) and mortality in patients with sepsis. This study investigated the therapeutic effects of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) in hemodynamically unstable patients with severe sepsis and septic shock combined with LV dysfunction. In this multicenter retrospective study, severe sepsis and septic shock patients with LV dysfunction were classified into one of two groups according to the timing of CRRT: the early group (before AKI was detected) or the control group (patients with AKI).

Methods: Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) query was utilized to download two NPC mRNA microarray data. WGCNA was conducted on differentially expressed genes (DEGs) to obtain tumor-associated gene modules.

Isolated Cervical Ruptured Radiculomedullary Artery Aneurysm Predominantly Presenting as Supratentorial Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

A spinal artery aneurysm originating from the branch of the extracranial vertebral artery is uncommon. Most of them were finally diagnosed due to the evidence of infratentorial or spinal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Herein, we report an extremely rare case of a ruptured spinal artery aneurysm which predominantly presented with supratentorial SAH.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are emerging as essential liquid biopsy markers for early cancer detection. Currently, the clinical applications of miRNAs are lagging behind due to their high sequence similarity and rarity. Herein, we propose biointerference-free, target-triggered core-satellite nanocomposites for ultrasensitive surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) detection of lung cancer-related miRNA-21.

Prognostic Accuracy of qSOFA and SIRS for Mortality in the Emergency Department: A Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review of Prospective Studies.

Objective: This meta-analysis aimed to determine the prognostic performance of quick sequential organ failure assessment (qSOFA) score in comparison to systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in predicting in-hospital mortality in the emergency department (ED) patients.

Methods: Eligible studies comparing the performance of qSOFA and SIRS in predicting in-hospital death of ED patients were identified from searching PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane. Raw data were collected, and the pooled sensitivity and specificity were calculated for qSOFA and SIRS.

Ultrasound-Guided Radiofrequency Ablation: A New Attempt to the Treatment of Refractory Hyperparathyroidism Secondary to Chronic Kidney Disease.

Introduction: To evaluate clinical application value of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in refractory hyperparathyroidism secondary to chronic kidney disease (CKD) by comparing the safety and effectiveness of RFA with parathyroidectomy with autotransplantation (PTX + AT).

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 80 patients with CKD with refractory hyperparathyroidism who underwent RFA or PTX + AT between January 2018 and February 2021. Serum parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, and phosphorus levels, complications, clinical symptoms, visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, hospital stay duration, and postoperative recurrence rate were compared between the 2 groups.

Objective: We aimed to develop a nomogram to predict risk of resistance to intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) in children with Kawasaki disease in eastern China.

Methods: We retrospectively analysed the data of children with Kawasaki disease who received IVIG during hospitalisation at Soochow University Affiliated Children's Hospital. IVIG resistance was defined as recrudescent or persistent fever ≥36 h after the end of the IVIG infusion.

A Clot-Homing Near-Infrared Probe for In Vivo Imaging of Murine Thromboembolic Models.

Direct thrombus imaging contributes to early detection of thrombosis, and animal models with clinical relevance are vital in the development of new thrombolytics. Here, a facile clot-homing strategy is developed based on the finding that blood clot is negatively charged. Positively charged pentalysine moiety is coupled with phthalocyanine-based fluorophore , and its applications in murine thromboembolic models are described.

Cerebral edema (CDE) is a common complication in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and can reduce the benefit of endovascular therapy (EVT). To determine whether certain risk factors are associated with a poor prognosis mediated by CDE after EVT. The 759 patients with anterior circulation stroke treated by EVT at three comprehensive stroke centers in China from January 2014 to October 2020 were analyzed.

[Mini-incision with endoscope-assisted surgery for bilateral congenital second branchial cleft fistula and a pedigree report].

To investigate the feasibility and efficacy of mini-incision with endoscope-assisted resection for bilateral congenital second branchial cleft fistula, and to report on a rare pedigree. The clinical data of 5 patients with bilateral congenital second branchial fistula admitted in Fujian Provincial Hospital from April 2007 to December 2018 were retrospectively reviewed, including 2 males and 3 females, aged from 3 to 31 years old. The surgical strateges and clinical experience of single mini-incision with endoscope-assisted fistulectomy were summarized, and a rare pedigree was reported.

Clinicopathological factors affecting the prognosis of massive hemorrhage after radiotherapy for patients having nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Aims: The aim of the study is to investigate the clinicopathological factors that determine prognosis of nasopharyngeal hemorrhage after radiotherapy in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).

Patients And Methods: The clinicopathological data of 539 patients with NPC, who received radiotherapy, were analyzed retrospectively. Parameters included gender; age; T-stage; N-stage; pathological type; type of radiotherapy; synchronous chemotherapy; secondary-course radiotherapy; radiation-induced skull base osteonecrosis; diabetes, hypertension, or other systemic diseases; results of nasopharyngeal bacterial culture; and nasopharyngeal tumor recurrence.

Background: Comb homolog enhancer 1 (EPC1) gene is one of the important members of epigenetic inhibitor PCG family. It shows carcinogenic potential in a variety of malignant tumors, but the expression and role of EPC1 in nasopharyngeal carcinoma are unclear. The aim of this study was to explore the expression and function of enhancer of polycomb homolog 1 (EPC1) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).

[Efficacy of radial shock wave guided by soft tissue surgery theory in the treatment of lateral epicondylitis].

To explore the efficacy of radial shock wave therapy (RSWT) for lateral epicondylitis (LE). A total of 54 cases suffering from LE from Department of Pain Medicine of Fujian Provincial Hospital between December 2017 to October 2019 were randomly assigned to experimental group (=27) and control group (=27). Subjects in the experimental group were applied with RSWT in the lateral elbow area plus scapular back area, while patients in control group were applied with RSWT only in the lateral elbow area.

The self-ligating appliance technique, since its advent in the 1930s, have been rather popular ammong the majority of orthodontists. This study was to determine that self-ligating appliance can reduce inflammation in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of patients receiving orthodontic treatment and keep periodontal health.

As the active form of vitamin D3, 1α,25-(OH)-D promotes receptor activator for nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)-induced autophagy in osteoclast precursors (OCPs). However, the relationship between 1α,25-(OH)-D and RANKL signaling is still unknown. This study aimed to explore whether 1α,25-(OH)-D regulates OCP autophagy and osteoclastogenesis through RANKL signaling.
