Case series: Montgomery T-tube placement for subglottic tracheal stenosis: a report of 3 cases.

Rationale: Subglottic tracheal stenosis is stenosis of the trachea between the vocal cords and the lower margin of the cricoid cartilage. The Montgomery T-tube is used as a tracheostomy tube and a combined tracheal stent to avoid postoperative tracheal stenosis.

Patient Concerns: Because the stenosis is close to the glottis, surgical treatment is complex, and many complications may arise.

The synthesized 11 artemisinin-isatin hybrids 5a-c and 6a-h tethered via ethylene linker were assessed for their in vitro antiproliferative activity against A549 and H1299 nonsmall-cell lung cancer cell lines as well as their cytotoxicity towards BEAS-2B human normal lung epithelial cells. The preliminary results showed that hybrids 5a-c and 6a-h did not show any cytotoxicity (IC : >100 µM) on BEAS-2B cells, and also possessed potential activity (IC : 6.99-76.

The selection criterion for liver resection (LR) in intermediate-stage (IM) hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still controversial. This study aims to compare LR and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in the range of predicted death risk The multivariable Cox regression model (MVR) was estimated to predict mortality at 5 year. The cutoff values were determined by a 2-piece-wise linear regression model, decision curve analysis with MVR model, and hazard ratio curve for treatment plotted against the predicted mortality.

Objective: The occurrence and development of inflammation are closely correlated to the polarization of macrophages. All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) has been proven to promote the polarization of macrophages from M1 to M2, but this lacks an effective carrier to participate in the biological response. The present study aims to determine whether retinoic acid-incorporated glycol chitosan (RA-GC) nanoparticles can regulate macrophage polarization in Porphyromonas gingivalis-lipopolysaccharide (Pg-LPS)-induced inflammation.

Background: Gastric cancer is a common malignant tumor of digestive tract. The study aimed to identify candidate genes associated with the proliferation and survival of gastric cancer cell through CRISPR-cas9 screening data, which may provide new therapeutic targets for gastric cancer patients.

Methods: Candidate genes related to gastric cancer cell viability by CRISPR-cas9 screening from Depmap and genes differentially expressed between gastric cancer tissues and normal gastric tissues from TCGA were overlapped.

Latent Class Analysis of Subphenotypes in Intermediate-Stage Hepatocellular Carcinoma after Transarterial Chemoembolization.

Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the standard first-line therapy for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, no latent-classing indices, concerning repeat conventional TACE or switching to another treatment, have been incorporated into the guidelines. The unsupervised latent class modeling was applied to identify subphenotypes using the clinical and medical imaging data of 1517 HCC patients after the first TACE from four hospitals (derivation cohort: 597 cases; validation cohort: 920 cases); modeling was conducted independently in each cohort.

Background: The serum uric acid/albumin ratio (sUAR), a novel inflammatory marker, effectively predicts acute kidney injury (AKI) and cardiovascular outcomes. However, whether the sUAR predicts post-contrast acute kidney injury (PC-AKI) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains uncertain. In this study, we evaluated the association between the sUAR and PC-AKI in patients with STEMI undergoing PCI.

Background: Iliac vein compression syndrome (IVCS) diagnosis heavily relies on an imaging test. However, non-invasive and contrast-free imaging test for the diagnosis of IVCS remains a big challenge. To address this issue, this prospective study aimed to assess the image quality and diagnostic performance of a magnetic resonance imaging technique, black-blood venous imaging (BBVI), in detecting IVCS by comparing it with contrast-enhanced computed tomography venography (CTV) and using invasive digital subtraction angiography (DSA) as the reference.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive investigation to screen and identify biomarkers for predicting HCC.

Methods: Firstly, the bioinformatics technique was applied to screen potential HCC-related genes, and the relationships between BZW2, CDT1, IVD expression and survival rate and clinicopathological factors were assessed.

Objective: To compare the performance of a deep learning survival network with the tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) staging system in survival prediction and test the reliability of individual treatment recommendations provided by the network.

Methods: In this population-based cohort study, we developed and validated a deep learning survival model using consecutive cases of newly diagnosed stage I to IV esophageal cancer between January 2004 and December 2015 in a Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. The model was externally validated in an independent cohort from Fujian Provincial Hospital.

Trough Concentration Deficiency of Rivaroxaban in Patients With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation Leading to Thromboembolism Events.

This retrospective study investigated factors influencing the steady-state trough concentrations (C trough ) of rivaroxaban in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). We retrieved data from patients with NAVF who first started rivaroxaban anticoagulation at the Fujian Provincial Hospital from October 2017 to October 2020 through the electronic medical record system. Patients were followed for 1 year after the first dose of rivaroxaban, and the primary efficacy and safety end points were recorded.

Ultrasound-guided thermal ablation versus laparoscopic surgery for focal nodular hyperplasia of the liver: A retrospective controlled study.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the value of the clinical application of ultrasound-guided percutaneous thermal ablation in focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) by comparing its safety, effectiveness, and patient experience to surgery in the treatment of hepatic FNH ≤5 cm.

Method: This retrospective study enrolled 82 patients with hepatic FNH having a maximum diameter of ≤5 cm, confirmed by postoperative pathologic diagnosis or needle biopsy, who underwent thermal ablation or surgery between January 2019 and September 2021. Postoperative efficacy, surgical trauma (operation time, intraoperative bleeding volume, liver function, and lost volume of normal liver tissue), postoperative complications (postoperative infection, pleural effusion, and liver dysfunction), patient experience (degree and time of postoperative pain, postoperative fasting time, indwelling thoracic chest drain, and scar size), and economic indices (postoperative hospitalization and total charges) were compared between both groups.

CT guided autologous blood localization of pulmonary ground glass nodules for video assisted thoracoscopic surgery compared to micro-coil localization.

Objectives: To investigate feasibility and safety of autologous blood in preoperative computed tomography (CT)-guided localization of pulmonary ground-glass nodules (GGNs) by comparing to mico-coil prior to video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery.

Methods: Clinical data of patients with GGNs who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery followed by preoperative CT-guided autologous blood or micro-coil localization was retrospectively reviewed in our department between September 2019 and November 2021. The localization duration, localization success rate, localization-related complication, localization cost, operation time, and conversion rate were compared between the 2 localization groups.

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis caused by traumatic brain injury complicating thyroid storm: a case report and discussion.

Introduction: Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is an uncommon cerebrovascular disease with diverse predisposing factors. We report a case of CVST caused by a thyroid storm induced by traumatic brain injury.

Case Presentation: A 29-year-old male patient with a history of Graves' disease with hyperthyroidism presented to our hospital with head trauma of cerebral contusion and laceration in both frontal lobes confirmed by admission CT scan.
