This study aimed to examine the effect of thiopental monotherapy as well as its combination with different agents used in anesthesia induction, on cardiac function and redox state of rats with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). A total of 40 male rats were used in this study and randomly divided into five groups: thiopental (TIO), fentanyl + thiopental (FEN + TIO), remifentanil + thiopental (REM + TIO), midazolam + thiopental (MID + TIO), and dexmedetomidine + thiopental (DEX + TIO). Animals were anesthetized by intraperitoneal injection of thiopental 85 mg/kg, fentanyl 0.

Objective: To identify the COVID-19 pandemic impact on well-being/mental health, coping strategies, and risk factors in adolescents worldwide.
Method: This study was based on an anonymous online multi-national/multi-language survey in the general population (representative/weighted non-representative samples, 14-17 years of age), measuring change in well-being (World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index [WHO-5]/range = 0-100) and psychopathology (validated composite P-score/range = 0-100), WHO-5 <50 and <29, pre- vs during COVID-19 pandemic (April 26, 2020-June 26, 2022). Coping strategies and 9 a priori- defined individual/cumulative risk factors were measured.

Despite the recent progress, current treatment modalities are not able to eradicate cancer. We show that Microbeam Radiotherapy (MRT), an innovative type of Spatially Fractionated Radiotherapy, can control murine melanoma by activating the host's own immune system. The beneficial effects are very pronounced in comparison to uniform radiotherapy traditionally employed in the clinic.

Objectives: Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) is a common causative pathogen of pneumonia acquired in the intensive care unit (ICU). The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of PA ICU pneumonia (PAIP) and to quantify its independent association with PA colonization at different body sites.
Methods: Adult patients on mechanical ventilation at ICU admission were prospectively enrolled across 30 European ICUs.

Retinal vascular diseases encompass several retinal disorders, including diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, age-related macular degeneration, and retinal vascular occlusion; these disorders are classified as similar groups of disorders due to impaired retinal vascularization. The aim of this review is to address the main signaling pathways involved in the pathogenesis of retinal vascular diseases and to identify crucial molecules and the importance of their interactions. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is recognized as a crucial and central molecule in abnormal neovascularization and a key phenomenon in retinal vascular occlusion; thus, anti-VEGF therapy is now the most successful form of treatment for these disorders.

The phenomenon of drug-induced mucosal damage has not been reported much in the literature, although over 100 drugs are known to cause this condition. Tetracyclines contribute the most to mucosal damage. The common symptoms are difficulty swallowing, pain while swallowing, and possibly retrosternal pain.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to understand the path for establishing digital health technologies-health technology assessment (DHT-HTA) in India.
Methods: A rapid review of HTA and DHT frameworks on PubMed (MEDLINE) and Google Scholar was conducted to identify DHT-HTA guidelines, and HTA processes in India. MS-Excel template was created with key domains for assessing DHT in resource-constrained settings based on studies and reports identified.

Aims: This study aimed to assess nursing workload in Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) after three cardiothoracic surgery procedures during first four postoperative days using Nursing Activities Score (NAS) and Nine Equivalents of Nursing Manpower Use Score (NEMS) systems, to compare their performance for that purpose and to investigate association between nursing workload and type of surgery.
Design: A comparative study.
Methods: The research environment includes CICU of the University Hospital for Cardiovascular Diseases in Serbia.

Background: Although repeatedly confirmed, the molecular nature of gene-environment (GxE) interactions has rarely been investigated in the clinical context of mood disorders. This study assesses the relationship between HTR2A genetic variants and the modulatory effect of inflammation in a collective cohort of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD), as a unified group with two distinct phenotypes.
Methods: The study included 138 patients with acute mood episodes (BD = 83; MDD = 55).

Detection of clinically relevant stenosis within coronary arteries as well as planning of treatment (stent implantation) are important topics in clinical cardiology. In this study a thorough methodology for virtual stenting assistance is proposed, that includes the 3D reconstruction of a patient-specific coronary artery from X-ray angiography images, hemodynamic simulations of blood flow, computation of a fractional flow reserve (FFR) equivalent, virtual stenting procedure and an optimization of the virtual stenting, by considering not only the value of computed FFR, but also the low and high WSS regions and the state of arterial wall after stenting. The evaluation of the proposed methodology is performed in two ways: the calculated values of FFR are compared with clinically measured values; and the results obtained for automated optimized virtual stenting are compared with virtual stenting performed manually by an expert clinician for the whole considered dataset.

Over the last few decades, we have gained insight into how researchers attempted to modify some natural molecules to be utilized as prospective agents for cancer treatment. Many scientists synthesized new natural compounds by incorporating specific functional groups and metals that improved their antitumor activity while reducing undesirable side effects. In this investigation, we synthesized four novel structurally modified enones that differ in the functional groups attached to the carbonyl group of the enone system (methyl - E1; isopropyl - E2; isobutyl - E3; and cyclopropyl - E4) and explored their anticancer potential against human carcinoma of the colon HCT-116, the cervical HeLa, and normal lung cells MRC-5.

: This study aimed to evaluate psychosocial burden and its associated factors in women who were referred for additional diagnostic procedures following receipt of a positive cervical-cancer-screening smear result. : A cross-sectional study was performed in a consecutive cohort of only women who received an abnormal Papanicolaou screening result and therefore presented to a gynecologist for additional diagnostic examinations (colposcopy/biopsy/endocervical curettage) at the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Clinical Center. Multivariate linear regression was used for data analysis, with Bonferroni correction applied for multiple comparisons.

Aim: We sought the cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) parameter that most accurately reflected therapeutic efficacy in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
Methods: Well-being questionnaire, N-terminal brain natriuretic peptide measurements, echocardiography, and CPET were performed in patients with symptomatic non-obstructive HCM during phase II, randomized, open-label multicentre study, before and after 16 weeks of traditional or sacubitril/valsartan treatment. Patients were followed 36 months after the initial CPET.
