Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a growing global healthcare burden. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are more likely to acquire MetS than the general population. Recent research suggests that the interaction of adipose tissue products, such as adiponectin resistin and uric acid, is essential in MetS onset.

Background: The triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein (TG/HDL) ratio emerges as a promising marker for cardiovascular risk. However, the relationship between overall serum lipid levels and hemorrhagic stroke (HS) remains uncertain. Therefore, our study aims to explore the association between this novel index and mortality in HS patients.

Background: The incidence of HF following ACS remains unacceptably high at discharge and several identified risk factors contribute to the development of HF in this context.
Objective: This study investigated the prevalence and clinical significance of HF in patients admitted to the Clinic for Heart, Blood Vessels, and Rheumatic Diseases at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo following ACS.
Methods: This retrospective observational study was conducted at the Clinic for Heart, Blood Vessels, and Rheumatic Diseases of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo between February 1 and April 1, 2023, involving patients who were admitted because of ACS.
Background: Evaluated values of body mass index (BMI), waist circumeference (WC) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) increase the risk of stroke, but the extent to which this is mediated by hypertension, diabetes, lipid status, smoking and alcohol consumption is not fully understood.
Objective: The aim of this research is to examine the influence of modifying and non-modifying factors as well as obesity defined through BMI, WC and WHR on the occurrence of stroke.
Methods: A total of 440 subjects were included in the cohort divided in to two groups.

Background Context: Spondylodiscitis management presents significant clinical challenges, particularly in critically ill patients, where the risks and benefits of surgical intervention must be carefully balanced. The optimal timing of surgery in this context remains a subject of debate.
Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of early surgery versus delayed surgery or conservative management in critically ill patients with de novo pyogenic spondylodiscitis.

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease in childhood, significantly contributing to both short- and long-term disability. While certain human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II alleles are known to be associated with specific subgroups of JIA, emerging evidence suggests a strong correlation between these alleles and treatment response. This study involved 143 JIA patients diagnosed according to International League of Associations for Rheumatology criteria.

Neutropenic enterocolitis (NE) is a potentially life-threatening condition, primarily affecting neutropenic patients with hematologic malignancies. The clinical manifestations of NE in patients receiving antineoplastic drugs range from fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain to intestinal perforation and shock. We report the case of a 12-year-old boy with acute myelogenous leukemia, undergoing chemotherapy, who presented with an atypical case of NE.

The objective of this study was to confirm the effects of curcumin and to investigate the effects of its combination with a reduced dose of rosuvastatin in an adenine-induced model of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and associated dyslipidemia in rats. Renal function and morphology, as well as lipid status, were assessed using laboratory parameters and histopathological analysis. Male Wistar rats (n=36) randomly divided into six groups, were treated for 24 days: normal control (standard diet), CKD control (adenine diet, 0.

Chylothorax represents the accumulation of chyle in the pleural cavity due to leakage from the thoracic duct or its tributaries. Intraoperative intrathoracic lymphatic injury is a common cause, but it can also occur on its own. Management of chylothorax involves both medical therapy and, in some cases, surgery for postoperative patients and those who haven't responded to medical therapy.

By introducing the healing of many distinctive anastomoses by BPC 157 therapy, this review practically deals with the concept of the resection and reconnection of the hollow parts of the gastrointestinal tract as one of the cornerstones of visceral surgery. In principle, the healing of quite distinctive anastomoses itself speaks for applied BPC 157 therapy, in particular, as a way in which the therapy of anastomoses can be successfully approached and carried out. Some of the anastomoses implicated were esophagogastric, colocolonic, jejunoileal, and ileoileal anastomoses, along with concomitant disturbances, such as esophagitis, sphincter dysfunction, failed intestinal adaptation, colitis, short bowel syndrome, major vessel occlusion, NO-system, and prostaglandins-system dysfunction, which were accordingly counteracted as well, and, finally, findings concerning other anastomoses healing (i.

Background: Hormone receptor expression is a known positive prognostic and predictive factor in breast cancer; however, limited evidence exists on its prognostic impact on prognosis of young patients harboring a pathogenic variant (PV) in the BRCA1 and/or BRCA2 genes.
Patients And Methods: This international, multicenter, retrospective cohort study included young patients (aged ≤40 years) diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and harboring germline PVs in BRCA genes. We investigated the impact of hormone receptor status on clinical behavior and outcomes of breast cancer.
