Absorbed doses in uterus during brachytherapy were calculated with MCNP in relevant points and compared with planning system for one patients. MCNP was applied with two different humanoid phantoms in input, ORNL and voxel models, which represent human body in mathematical way. Good agreement between both phantoms, as well as, between MCNP and planning system were found.

Catheter ablation (CA) of atrial fibrillation (AF) is the therapy of choice for the maintenance of sinus rhythm in patients with symptomatic AF. Time towards interventional treatment and peri-procedural management of patients undergoing AF ablation may vary in daily practice. The scope of this European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) survey was to report the current clinical practice regarding the management of patients undergoing AF ablation and physician's adherence to the European Society of Cardiology Guidelines and the EHRA/HRS/ECAS expert consensus statement on the CA for AF.

Auditory processing in children diagnosed with speech and language impairment (SLI) is atypical and characterized by reduced brain activation compared to typically developing (TD) children. In typical speech and language development processes, frontal, temporal, and posterior regions are engaged during single-word listening, while for non-word listening, it is highly unlikely that perceiving or speaking them is not followed by frequent neurones' activation enough to form stable network connections. This study aimed to investigate the electrophysiological cortical activity of alpha rhythm while listening words and non-words in children with SLI compared to TD children.

Background: Early prediction of COVID-19 patients’ mortality risk may be beneficial in adequate triage and risk assessment. Therefore, we aimed to single out the independent morality predictors of hospitalized COVID-19 patients among parameters available on hospital admission. Methods: An observational, retrospective−prospective cohort study was conducted on 703 consecutive COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the University Clinical Center Kragujevac between September and December 2021.

Background: Published data regarding the impact of obesity on COVID-19 outcomes are inconsistent. However, in most studies, body composition was assessed using body mass index (BMI) alone, thus neglecting the presence and distribution of adipose tissue. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the impact of body and visceral fat on COVID-19 outcomes.

The quality of an oocyte is influenced by its microenvironment, which includes cumulus cells and follicular fluid, as well as cells of the immune system and their products. The ovarian interleukins, which are secreted by the granulosa cells and other immune cells within the ovaries and follicles, regulate various functions between the cells. IL-6 is a cytokine that is present in the follicular fluid and may affect the quality of oocytes.

As the ultimate pathophysiological event, heart failure (HF) may arise from various cardiovascular (CV) conditions, including sustained pressure/volume overload of the left ventricle, myocardial infarction or ischemia, and cardiomyopathies. Sacubitril/valsartan (S/V; formerly termed as LCZ696), a first-in-class angiotensin receptor/neprilysin inhibitor, brought a significant shift in the management of HF with reduced ejection fraction by modulating both renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (angiotensin II type I receptor blockage by valsartan) and natriuretic peptide system (neprilysin inhibition by sacubitril) pathways. Besides, the efficacy of S/V has been also investigated in the setting of other CV pathologies which are during their pathophysiological course and progression deeply interrelated with HF.

Risperidone is one of the most commonly used antipsychotics (AP), due to its safety and efficacy in reducing psychotic symptoms. Despite the favorable side effect profile, the therapy is accompanied by side effects due to the non-selectivity of this medicine. This review will briefly highlight the most important basic and clinical findings in this area, consider the clinical effects of AP-induced hyperprolactinemia (HPL), and suggest different approaches to the treatment.

Oxidative stress (OS) is considered a significant risk factor for the development of anemia in patients treated by regular hemodialysis (HD). Moreover, OS represents a risk factor for the development of erythropoietin (EPO) resistance in these patients. The aim of this study was to examine the role of OS regarding EPO resistance development in patients treated by regular HD.

Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy ( Lu-DOTATATE) causes DNA strand breaks and has been validated for well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor treatment. Poly-(ADP-ribose)-polymerase inhibitors have also been used for malignant tumors with deficient DNA repair. We aimed to determine whether the poly-(ADP-ribose)-polymerase inhibitor fluzoparib could enhance the anti-tumor effects of Lu-DOTATATE in neuroendocrine tumor cells and xenografts.

: Given the fact that galectin-3 has a predictive significance on the development of myocardial dysfunction after acute myocardial infarction, the aim of our study was to examine potential factors that could be important for the dynamics of the concentration of this biomarker in the early postinfarction period. : This study included 89 patients with a diagnosis of stable angina pectoris (SAP) or the first non-ST elevation (NSTEMI) or ST-elevation (STEMI) myocardial infarction, who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The study group included 23 patients with the first NSTEMI and 42 patients with STEMI, while the control group consisted of 24 patients with SAP hospitalized for elective PCI without a previous MI.
