Background: The impetuous entrance of the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy in March 2020, after the onset and diffusion in China, found the health system widely unfit to face the large amount of infected patients. The matter of this investigation was to evaluate how pandemic fear and guidelines for limiting the diffusion of SARS-CoV-2 virus could have impacted the regular supply of radiotherapy (RT) and the outcome of the treatments.
Materials And Methods: From March 9, 2020, to May 29, 2020, a register has been established to record patients that cancelled or postponed the RT appointment.

The retrospective studies that have so far described the outcomes of the sequential use of life-prolonging agents (LPAs) did not include metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients who received radium-223 (Ra) as part of their treatment. Consequently, it is not known whether including Ra in the therapeutic sequence has an impact on cumulative survival. The aim of this study was to evaluate this impact by comparing the cumulative overall survival (OS) in two series of mCRPC patients sequentially treated with two or three LPAs after first-line docetaxel (DOC), including Ra and not.

Background: The role of immune-related adverse events (irAEs), as a surrogate predictor of the efficacy of checkpoint inhibitors, has not yet been described in the setting of first-line, single-agent pembrolizumab for patients with metastatic non-small-cell lung-cancer (NSCLC) with a programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression of ≥ 50%.
Patients And Methods: We previously conducted a multicenter retrospective analysis in patients with treatment-naive metastatic NSCLC and a PD-L1 expression of ≥ 50% receiving first-line pembrolizumab. Here, we report the results of the irAE analysis and the potential correlation between irAEs and clinical outcomes.

Background: In advanced epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutated non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients whose disease has progressed during treatment with first- and second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), liquid biopsy (LB) is routinely used to evaluate the presence of EGFR T790M as an acquired resistance mechanism. The objective of this study was to assess a real-life picture of EGFR T790M detection in LB.
Materials And Methods: Liquid biopsies performed between June 2016 and October 2018 for advanced EGFR-mutated NSCLC at disease progression during treatment with first- and second-generation TKIs were retrospectively evaluated in 5 Italian centers.

Diabetes and cancer frequently coexist in the same subject, often with relevant clinical effects on the management and prognosis of the comorbid patient. The existing guidelines, however, do not appropriately address many clinical issues in this setting. Although collaboration between diabetologists and oncologists should play an important role in achieving appropriate levels of care, close coordination or agreement between these specialists is seldom offered.

Introduction: The objectives of this study were to estimate the economic burden of HPV in Italy, accounting for total direct medical costs associated with nine major HPV-related diseases, and to provide a measure of the burden attributable to HPV 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, 58 infections.
Methods: A cost-of-illness incidence-based model was developed to estimate the incidences and costs of invasive cervical cancer, cervical dysplasia, cancer of the vulva, vagina, anus, penis, oropharyngeal, anogenital warts, and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) in the context of the Italian National Health System (NHS). We used data from hospital discharge records (HDRs) of an Italian region and conducted a systematic literature review to estimate the lifetime cost per case, the number of incident cases, the prevalence of HPV9 types.
