Introduction: Suspected preterm labour (SPL) is an obstetric complication that occurs in 9% of all pregnancies and is the leading cause of antenatal hospital admissions. More than half of women with SPL deliver a premature baby which is a known risk factor for developing cardiovascular and metabolic disorders in childhood and later in adult life. On the other hand, the other half of these women will deliver at term, labelled as 'false preterm labour'.

Short-term effects of semaglutide among patients with obesity with and without food addiction: an observational study.

Introduction: Food addiction (FA) is highly prevalent among people with obesity (PwO) and may constitute a key factor in weight loss failure or weight regain. GLP-1 analogues have been shown to act on the mesolimbic system, which is related to hedonic overeating and substance abuse. We aimed to study the effects of low doses of semaglutide on FA symptomatology and to evaluate whether the presence of FA have a negative impact on weight loss despite treatment with semaglutide.

Introduction: Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM) is an inherited disease characterized by progressive fibroadipose replacement of cardiomyocytes. Its diagnosis is based on imaging, electrocardiographic, histological and genetic/familial criteria. The development of the disease is based mainly on desmosomal genes.

The objective of this work is to assess the efficacy of conservative treatment with orthopedic insoles in Müller-Weiss disease (EMW). The plantar support aims to pronounce the hindfoot and immobilize the talo-navicular, and naviculo-cuneiform joints or both at the same time, as an alternative to the valguizing osteotomy of the calcaneus and arthrodesis. The clinical and radiological characteristics of 10 cases of EMW in 8 patients under study are analyzed and the results obtained are evaluated.

Relationship between the ABO blood group and COVID-19 susceptibility, severity and mortality in two cohorts of patients.

Background: Several articles reported the existence of an association between ABO blood groups and COVID-19 susceptibility. Group A and group O individuals showed a higher and lower risk, respectively, of becoming infected. No association was observed between ABO groups and mortality.

A Proposed Approach to Chronic Airway Disease (CAD) Using Therapeutic Goals and Treatable Traits: A Look to the Future.

Chronic airflow obstruction affects a wide range of airway diseases, the most frequent of which are asthma, COPD, and bronchiectasis; they are clearly identifiable in their extremes, but quite frequently overlap in some of their pathophysiological and clinical characteristics. This has generated the description of new mixed or overlapping disease phenotypes with no clear biological grounds. In this special article, a group of experts provides their perspective and proposes approaching the treatment of chronic airway disease (CAD) through the identification of a series of therapeutic goals (TG) linked to treatable traits (TT) - understood as clinical, physiological, or biological characteristics that are quantifiable using biomarkers.

Intracoronary injection of haematopoietic precursor cells regenerates the borders, but not the core, of old myocardial scars.

Aims: Cell therapy regenerative potential is hindered by cell access to the infarct zone. We studied function recovery at the scar zone and its impact in global left ventricular function after intracoronary injection of haematopoietic precursor cells.

Methods And Results: Haematopoietic precursor cells were obtained by blood apheresis in patients with an old myocardial infarction, and the presence of CD34+ and CD133+ cells was quantified.

Oscillopsia in Bilateral Vestibular Hypofunction: Not Only Gain But Saccades Too.

Objectives: Oscillopsia is a disabling condition for patients with bilateral vestibular hypofunction (BVH). When the vestibulo-ocular reflex is bilaterally impaired, its ability to compensate for rapid head movements must be supported by refixation saccades. The objective of this study is to assess the relationship between saccadic strategies and perceived oscillopsia.

Objective: The difficulty in diagnosis and the spectrum of clinical manifestations that can determine the choice of treatment for primary antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) has fostered the development of recommendations by the Spanish Society of Rheumatology (SER), based on the best possible evidence. These recommendations can serve as a reference for rheumatologists and other specialists involved in the management of APS.

Methods: A panel of four rheumatologists, a gynaecologist and a haematologist with expertise in APS was created, previously selected by the SER through an open call or based on professional merits.

Management of analgesia, sedation and delirium in Spanish Intensive Care Units: A national two-part survey.

Objective: To know the real clinical practice of Spanish ICUs in relation to analgesia, sedation and delirium, with a view to assessing adherence to current recommendations.

Design: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out based on a national survey on analgesia, sedation and delirium practices in patients admitted to intensive care on 16 November, 2013 and 16 October, 2014. An on-line questionnaire was sent with the endorsement of the SEMICYUC.

Normative data for static balance testing in healthy individuals using open source computerized posturography.

Purpose: Computerized posturography is the gold standard for balance assessment. Because of the great cost and dimensions of commercial equipments, low-cost and portable devices have been developed and validated, such as RombergLab, a software in open source term which works connected with a low-cost force platform. The objective of this study was to obtain normative posturography data using this software.

Background: The umbilicus is an essential feature of the abdomen. In this article, we describe a new technique for creating a neo-umbilicus in abdominoplasty.

Methods: Thirty consecutive women underwent abdominoplasty with our new technique for recreating the navel.

Characterization of Surgical Procedures in the Spanish Mohs Surgery Registry (REGESMOHS) for 2013-2015.

Introduction: The Spanish Mohs Surgery Registry is used to collect data on the use and outcomes of Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) in Spain. The aim of this study was to describe perioperative and intraoperative data recorded for MMS procedures performed between July 2013 (when the registry started) and January 2016.

Material And Methods: Prospective cohort study of data from 18 hospitals.

Effect on the lipid parameters of an intervention to reduce weight in overweight and obese patients.

Objective: To assess the effect on lipid parameters most associated with excess weight (triglycerides [TG], cholesterol, and high density lipoprotein [HDL-C]) of an intervention to reduce weight in overweight and obese patients.

Methods: A randomised, controlled, double blind clinical trial, with three groups, and a follow-up of 12 months. Patients included in the study were randomised into three intervention groups: Obesity motivational intervention group with previously trained nurse (G1), lower intensity consultation, non-motivational group, with digital platform support (G2), and a third group that received a recommendation to lose weight and usual follow-up (G3).

Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex Stabilization after Vestibular Schwannoma Surgery: A Story Told by Saccades.

Objective: To evaluate vestibular compensation measurement of the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) following vestibular schwannoma surgery and its relationship with changes in saccades strategy after surgery.

Patients: Thirty-six consecutive patients with vestibular schwannomas, without brainstem compression, underwent surgical resection. Patients were recruited from University Hospital of Salamanca, Spain.

Computing simulated endolymphatic flow thermodynamics during the caloric test using normal and hydropic duct models.

Conclusion: The obtained simulations support the underlying hypothesis that the hydrostatic caloric drive is dissipated by local convective flow in a hydropic duct.

Objective: To develop a computerized model to simulate and predict the internal fluid thermodynamic behavior within both normal and hydropic horizontal ducts.

Methods: This study used a computational fluid dynamics software to simulate the effects of cooling and warming of two geometrical models representing normal and hydropic ducts of one semicircular horizontal canal during 120 s.

Conclusion: The proposed validation goal of 0.9 in intra-class correlation coefficient was reached with the results of this study. With the obtained results we consider that the developed software (RombergLab) is a validated balance assessment software.

A new method to improve the imbalance in chronic unilateral vestibular loss: the organization of refixation saccades.

Conclusion: VOR adaptation and organization of refixation saccades in a gathered pattern is a process that can be artificially induced in patients with unilateral vestibular loss who have not developed it naturally, improving imbalance and vestibular disability.

Objective: To test that temporary grouping of refixation saccades should be linked to better clinical status without gain recovery.

Methods: A training to induce the refixation saccades into gathered fashion is performed.

Mesothelial-to-mesenchymal transition in the pathogenesis of post-surgical peritoneal adhesions.

Peritoneal adhesions (PAs) are fibrotic bands formed between bowel loops, solid organs, and the parietal peritoneum, which may appear following surgery, infection or endometriosis. They represent an important health problem with no effective treatment. Mesothelial cells (MCs) line the peritoneal cavity and undergo a mesothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (MMT) under pathological conditions, transforming into myofibroblasts, which are abundant in peritoneal fibrotic tissue.
