[Diagnosis of rheumatoid uveitis in children and teenagers].

We have done a retrospective study of juvenile rheumatoid uveitis of hospitalized cases between 1993-2002. 96 juvenile uveitis were available and 18 of this cases were diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid uveitis. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis associated uveitis is one of the most difficult of the uveitic entities to manage.

[Learning effect in computerized perimetry].

Purpose: To highlight the learning effect in automated perimetry and to assess the value of the first visual field in glaucoma diagnosis.

Method: A prospective study that included 48 patients (91 eyes)--glaucoma suspects--who performed 3 visual field tests in no more than 12 months.

Results: 32 eyes were diagnosed with intraocular hypertension and the others with POAG.

[Orbital varices].

The purpose of this study was to point out a case with orbital venous abnormalities at the left eye, associated with varices of the legs. The clinical picture of this case was: intermittent exophthalmos, venous malformations at the level of the lids and episclera, elevated ocular pressure. All this signs reveal an abnormality at the level of venous wall, indicating a constitutional weakness of the venous system.

[Experimental animal studies in uveitis].

The aim of this study is to observe that if inject the Streptococcus beta-hemolytic group A in anterior chamber at rabbit bring about an acute uveitis.

[Functional disturbances after acute angle closure glaucoma].

This issue presents the results of a study on patients with acute angle closure glaucoma. We analyse the functional disturbances and their long term evolution, and we show some risk factors which lead to severe functional disturbances.

[Lens extraction in malignant myopia].

This issue presents the results of cristalin extraction in myopic eyes, analysing especially the postoperatory visual acuity and refraction. Some particularities of lens extraction in myopic eyes are pointed and the place of lens extraction as a method of refractive surgery of myopic eyes is analysed.

[Travatan--preliminary results].

Purpose: The prostaglandin analogues represent the first option for the treatment of primary open angle glaucoma. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the efficacy and the safety of Travatan în treatment for different type of glaucoma.

Methods: It was performed an observational clinical study between November 2002 and March 2003 on 33 patients (62 eyes), who were divided into treatment with Travatan în 4 groups.

[Refractive changes in concomitant exodeviations].

Unlabelled: The paper represents the analysis of 27 patients with a form of exodeviation examined în the Department of Ophthalmology Sibiu (jan. 1999-jan. 2003).

[Orbito-ocular dermoid cysts--incidence and particular cases].

This paper is concerned about a retrospective study on the casuistry of the Ophthalmologic Clinic of Craiova concerning those cases hospitalized and operated for different dermoidal cystic localization. A period of 20 years is under observation. The group of patients is analyzed taking into account the apparent debut age of the tumors, sex and different localization incidence.

[Diabetic retinopathy complications--12-year retrospective study].

It is analyzed, on a retrospective study on 12 years, the incidence of diabetus melitus cases, hospitalized in the Ophthalmologic Clinic from Craiova with special mention to the frequency of the diabetic retinopathy, of it's complications and in an accordance to other general diseases, especially cardiovascular's, which contributes to the aggravation of the diabetic ocular in juries evolution. The study underlines the high incidence of the new founded cases with diabetus melitus in complicated diabetes retinopathy stage; the high frequency of ocular complications is explained, according to our statistic facts and through an insufficient treatment, sometimes incorrect and many other cases total neglected by the patients.

[Efficacity of diode laser photocoagulation in retinal neovascularization treatment in diabetic retinopathy].

Retinal neovascularization (NVR) is a common complication of diabetes, which can cause legal blindness. This article presents the results of a study on 32 diabetic patients with NVR treated by DIODE LASER panretinal fotocoagulation.

[Oculo-orbital manifestations of paranasal sinus diseases].

Purpose: The paper is a study of the oculo-orbital affections established by the sinusal lesions.

Methods: The study is retrospective for five years and it is affected by the patients with ocular and orbital affections hospitalized in Ophthalmological Clinic. Were used the sheets of the patients and a collaboration with ORL Clinica, where the sinusal affections were surgical cured.

[Potentiated loco-regional anesthesia in ophthalmological surgery].

A clinical study on 46 patients, who were operated on for ophthalmologic diseases under local anaesthesia, is presented. Midazolam, diazepam and/or pethidine, given to the patients 5-10 minutes before the operation improved the classical local anaesthesia; they ensured hypnosis, analgesia, anterograde amnesia and vegetative protection, thus offering a high surgical comfort and diminishing considerably the rate of the well known incidences and complications of the local anaesthesia.

[Changes in the vascular wall in the conjunctiva of patients with diabetes mellitus].

Venous capillary wall in type II diabetic patients' conjunctiva was examined. The study was performed on conjunctiva fragments removed from diabetic patients during the operation of senile cataract. The fragments were fixed in Lillie's solution then studied by using optical microscopy with usual but histochemical stainings, too.

[Oculomotor disorders due to general causes].

The paper presents the clinical course and the problems appeared in making positive and etiological diagnosis for three cases of oculomotor disorders with diplopia, in adult patients. These are two cases of thyroid ophthalmopathy and one of myasthenia gravis. Atypical evolution in one case of thyroid ophthalmopathy and in that one with myasthenia gravis, made difficult the diagnosis and requested complex investigations.

[Tearing in a patient with glaucoma].

Lacrimal secretion analysis in glaucoma patients shows several changes depending on the kind of local treatment. The study shows: a. timolol induces: decreasing of the lacrimal secretion (Schirmer's test), decreasing of the basic lacrimal secretion (between 10-25%), the change of the stability and composition of the tears (tear film break-up time is reduced); b.

[Late postcontusion secondary glaucoma].

The investigation of 33 patients with late postcontusional glaucoma subjected to surgery and followed up for 25 +/- 8.24 months has revealed: the interval accident-surgery is shorter in the close-angle combined forms; the essential mechanisms responsible for glaucoma occurrence are: the alteration of trabecular meshwork (for open-angle glaucoma) and pupillary block (for close angle glaucoma); simple cases required antiglaucoma surgery (trabeculectomy, peripheral iridectomy) and the mixed ones required combined (trabeculectomy, lens extraction, lens implant) or sequential surgeries (antiglaucoma surgery, vitrectomy etc); the glaucomatous process was stopped in 83.4% of the open-angle glaucoma cases and progressed in 23.
