[Right colon cancer--clinicopathological findings].

Background: The right colon cancer (RCC) has some particularities from point of view of epidemiology, clinical aspects, therapy and prognosis.

Material And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the patients operated in the First Surgical Unit Iaşi during 2004 until 2009, for right colon cancer. The patients' data from the medical files were digitally encoded and included into a MS Access database, and statistically analyzed.

[Intramural intestinal hematoma--a complication of the oral anticoagulant therapy].

Aim: The presentation of a rare complication of oral anticoagulant treatment involving abdominal surgery.

Material And Method: A 59 years old patient who received oral anticoagulant treatment with Warfarine for repeated episodes of thrombosis of the lower limbs, suddenly develops an occlusive abdominal simptoms, which did not submit under conservative treatment. Biologically the clotting times were modified and the abdominal CT showed lesions of the first jejunal loop.

[Jejunal ulcer--therapeutical and diagnosis difficulties].

We present a female patient of 70 years, admitted in emergency department for signs of high bowel obstruction. After preoperative intensive care, surgical intervention was performed. A complete stenosis of the bowel lumen was found about 15 cm from the duodenojejunal angle, due to a process of sclerosis.

[Small bowel tumours from barium meal to capsule endoscopy and from open to laparoscopic approach].

Introduction: Tumors of the small bowel are rare and present with nonspecific symptoms. That causes a significant delay in diagnosis and consequently a worse outcome for the patient.

Methods: In a retro-prospective study we evaluated a series of 63 patients with small bowel tumors operated in the First Surgical Clinic Iaşi, during 1992-2010: 18 duodenal tumors, 26 jejunum tumors and 19 ileum tumors.

[The evaluation of immunoinflammatory response in acute bacterial peritonitis].

Aim: To evaluate the immunoinflammatory markers that shape the evolution of acute peritonitis and to assess their utility in specifying the development of septic shock from peritonitis.

Material And Method: We conducted a prospective study on a sample of 100 patients with acute peritonitis, hospitalized during 2001-2005 and immunologically monitored. We realized 2000 dosages of immunoinflammatory markers for 15 days by 1200 simple radial immunodiffusion tests (IDRS), the Mancini-Carbonara method for C reactive protein, complement component C3, immunoglobulins and 836 ELISA tests to evaluate cytokines.

[Gossypiboma--retained textile foreign body].

[Intestinal stromal tumors, rare cause of lower gastrointestinal bleeding. Case report].

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors represent a heterogeneous group of mesenchymal tumors that can develop throughout the gastrointestinal tract. We present the clinical case of a patient with such malignancies occurred in the proximal jejunum and clinically manifested by a severe digestive hemorrhage with hemorrhagic shock and severe posthemorrhagic anemia. Pre-operative diagnosis was possible only through the Entero-MRI.

[Remediastinoscopy--current indications. A case report].

Current indications for remediastinoscopy include an inadequate first procedure, recurrent and second primary lung cancer, lung cancer occurring after an unrelated disease such as lymphoma, and restaging after induction therapy. Nowadays, restaging is the most frequent indication for remediastinoscopy. We present the case of a 42 years old male with a mediastinoscopy performed in another surgical unit 4 months before being admitted in our department.

[Surgical treatment of hyperparathyroidism].

Background: Hyperparathyroidism (HPT), the result of excessive secretion of the parathormone, is one of the most common endocrine disorders. In most forms of HPT, surgical parathyroidectomy is the best choice.

Aim: This paper aims to examine patients with hyperparathyroidism operated in First Surgical Unit Iaşi, in terms of indications, surgical technique and postoperative results.

[Present trends in abdominal actinomycosis].

Background: Actinomycosis is a chronic infectious disease caused by bacteria in the Actinomyces genus. The pathologic, clinic and imagistic polymorphism and the rare incidence of this disease make it so frequent misdiagnosed.

Material And Method: Single unit retrospective nonrandomized clinical study on over 40 years of experience in diagnosing and treating abdominal actinomycosis.

[The reassessment of indications in laparoscopic cholecystectomy].

The gallstone, with its potentialy complications, claims a surgical solution in asymptomatic forms too, often traced out with the abdominal echography investigations circumstances. [Correlation of adenomatous polyps and early colorectal cancer. Diagnostic and therapeutic implications].

Aim: To detect the patients with colorectal adenomatous polyps or those with adenocarcinoma areas with a view to prevent and to treat the malignant disease.

Material And Method: A prospective study including 309 patients hospitalized between 2000-2005 diagnosed with isolated adenomatous polyps after repeated colonoscopies. The research method was selective screening with identification of risk factors regarding the evolution of colorectal polyps in early cancer, using colonoscopy and histopathological examination.

[The absence of haptic perception in laparoscopic cholecystectomy--risk factor for biliary lesions].

Background: Bile duct injuries are the main serious technical complication of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). Each lesion is peculiar in its features as well as the surgeon's reaction when face it.

Aim: To reveal the place of the human error according to accepted principles of cognitive psychology, beside other risk-factors involved in biliary accidents during LC.

[Parathyroid glands involvement in multiple endocrine neoplasia].

Objective: We performed a retrospective study to assess the postoperative results, long-term survival and quality of life after pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD) versus standard Whipple pancreaticoduodenectomy (WPD).

Methods: A retrospective study was performed in a nonselected series of 137 patients who were operated in the Surgical Clinics of "St. Spiridon" University Hospital Iaşi, Romania, from January 1st, 1995 till December 31, 2005.

[Thoracoscopic sympathectomy for arterial ischemia of the upper extremities: a case report].

Introduction: Thoracoscopic surgery reduce the morbidity of sympathectomy.
