Bone scintigraphy is an extremely valuable technique in diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with condylar hyperplasia (CH). The main objective of this study was to develop an approach to determine normal activity values in the mandibular condyles, adjusted to age and sex, through quantitative analysis of bone single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) on a condyle-by-condyle basis and to compare these values with those of a control group comprising patients with confirmed CH. Technetium 99 m-methylene diphosphonate (Tc-MDP) SPECT studies of the mandibular condyles were performed in patients with no mandibular pathology for quantitative analysis.

Background: World Health Organization expert groups recommended mortality trials of four repurposed antiviral drugs - remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir, and interferon beta-1a - in patients hospitalized with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Methods: We randomly assigned inpatients with Covid-19 equally between one of the trial drug regimens that was locally available and open control (up to five options, four active and the local standard of care). The intention-to-treat primary analyses examined in-hospital mortality in the four pairwise comparisons of each trial drug and its control (drug available but patient assigned to the same care without that drug).

Purpose: Institutional arthroplasty registries are very popular nowadays; however, very few efforts have been made in order to standardize the information to be collected, thus limiting the possibility of inter-institutional data interpretation. This manuscript reports the results of a single-country consensus designed to define the minimum standardized dataset to be recorded within an institutional arthroplasty registry.
Methods: A national consensus was carried out among all members of the Colombian Society of Hip and Knee Surgeons using the Delphi method.

Background: The combination of the percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic decompression (PTED) with an interspinous process distraction system (IPS) may offer additional benefit in the treatment of spinal stenosis in patients who have failed nonsurgical treatment.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 33 patients diagnosed with lumbar stenosis and radiculopathy and treated them with transforaminal endoscopic lumbar decompression between 2013 and 2017. Primary outcome measures were modified Macnab as well as preoperative and postoperative visual analog scale (VAS) criteria and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI).

To characterize the clinical presentation and outcomes of Kawasaki disease (KD) in infants <6 months of age as compared to those ≥6 months in Latin America. We evaluated 36 infants <6 months old and 940 infants ≥6 months old diagnosed with KD in Latin America. We compared differences in laboratory data, clinical presentation, treatment response, and coronary artery outcomes between the two cohorts.

(1) Background: Postoperative nerve root injury with dysesthesia is the most frequent sequela following lumbar endoscopic transforaminal discectomy. At times, it may be accompanied by transient and rarely by permanent motor weakness. The authors hypothesized that direct compression of the exiting nerve root and its dorsal root ganglion (DRG) by manipulating the working cannula or endoscopic instruments may play a role.

Breast cancer is one of the major public health issues and is considered a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. Its early diagnosis can effectively help in increasing the chances of survival rate. To this end, biopsy is usually followed as a gold standard approach in which tissues are collected for microscopic analysis.

Background: The intestinal microbiota is an important factor in modulating immune-mediated tumor cell destruction. Alterations in the microbiome composition have been linked to reduced efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapies. Therefore, antibiotic treatment (ATB), which modifies the diversity of the gut bacteria populations, could lead to a reduced efficacy of ICI treatments.

A new coronavirus, named severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 by the WHO, has rapidly spread around the world since its first reported case in late December of 2019 from Wuhan, the People's Republic of China. As of mid-April 2020, this virus has affected more than 180 countries and territories, infecting more than 1,650,000 individuals and causing over 100,000 deaths. With approximately 20 million new cases globally per year, cancer affects a substantial portion of the population.

Precision oncology is the field that places emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of tumors that harbor specific genomic alterations susceptible to inhibition or modulation. Although most alterations are only present in a minority of patients, a substantial effect on survival can be observed in this subgroup. Mass genome sequencing has led to the identification of a specific driver in the translocations of the tropomyosin receptor kinase family (NTRK) in a subset of rare tumors both in children and in adults, and to the development and investigation of Larotrectinib.

Objectives: The objectives of this study are to evaluate the relationship between authorship networking, socioeconomic factors, and scientific productivity across Latin America.
Methods: In a bibliometric analysis of cancer-related Latin-American publications, the relationship between authorship network indicators, sociodemographic factors, and number of peer-reviewed indexed publications per country was explored. A systematic review of the literature for cancer publications between 2000 and 2018 using the Scopus database limited to Latin-American authors was used for the construction of coauthorship and publication networks and their respective metrics.

Breast reconstruction using contralateral autologous tissue, also known as breast sharing, is a viable option previously described in the literature, whereby flaps based on perforators of the internal mammary artery (internal mammary artery pedicle) are used. We report a postoncological breast reconstruction case using a microvascular flap taken from the lateral pole of the contralateral breast. We highlight the importance of preserving the medial pole of the donor breast for improving cosmesis, avoiding symmastia, and preserving the intermammary sulcus, as a difference with flaps based on the internal mammary artery pedicle flaps.

Background: Anterior endoscopic cervical decompression with discectomy and foraminotomy is an alternative to open surgical treatment of unrelenting cervical radiculopathy (CR) in patients who have failed non-operative treatment. The purpose of the study is to present the clinical outcomes of patient with CR treated with an anterior endoscopic approach.
Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 293 patients diagnosed with CR and treated with an anterior endoscopic cervical decompression between 1997 and 2018.

A superior advantage of the superficial circumflex iliac artery perforator flap is that any donor site residue can easily be hidden by clothing. Usually designed as narrow or moderate-sized flaps based on medial perforators of the superficial branch, this readily allows primary donor site closure. However, for larger flaps, tension-free closure requires that the thigh remain flexed or even a skin graft used.

Background: [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC binds to somatostatin receptor (SSTR) subtypes 2 and 5, also expressed on lymphocytes and macrophages, but no information is available about uptake in tissues that might be affected by a chronic inflammatory process. Our aim was to obtain normal reference values for: [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC uptake in tissues prone to chronic inflammation.

Background: To compare survival outcomes of patients with advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received immunotherapy as first-, second- or beyond line, versus matched patients receiving standard chemotherapy with special characterization of hyperprogressors.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of 296 patients with unresectable/metastatic NSCLC treated with either, first-, second-, third- or fourth-line of immunotherapy was conducted. A matched comparison with a historical cohort of first-line chemotherapy and a random forest tree analysis to characterize hyperprogressors was conducted.

Acquired hemophilia A (AHA) is a rare and life-threatening autoimmune hemorrhagic disorder where autoantibodies are developed against factor VIII. An early diagnosis is challenging and mandatory: an immediate hemostatic control is required to reduce morbidity and mortality. Laboratory features of AHA are: presence of autoantibodies against factor VIII, prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (with normal prothrombin time and thrombin time) and decreased factor VIII levels.
