Cardiovascular disease and cancer are the two leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the world. The emerging field of cardio-oncology described several shared risk factors that predispose patients to both cardiovascular disease and cancer. Post-acute COVID-19 syndrome is a chronic condition that occurs in many patients who have experienced a SARS-CoV-2 infection, mainly based on chronic fatigue, sedentary lifestyle, cramps, breathing difficulties, and reduced lung performance.

Remission of type 2 diabetes in patients undergoing biliointestinal bypass for morbid obesity: a new surgical treatment.

Sleeve gastrectomy improves obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS): 5 year longitudinal study.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is prevalent among morbidly obese patients. Evaluation of the specific effects of sleeve gastrectomy (SG) on upper airway function has not been reported. Given the possibility that some patients will not respond despite weight loss, no studies have investigated whether other mechanisms may be responsible for persistent OSAS after bariatric surgery.

Is a prolonged bed rest following embryo transfer useful?

A total of 182 infertile patients undergoing in-vitro fertilization (IVF)-embryo transfer were randomly assigned into two groups. Eighty-seven patients (group A) underwent 97 treatment cycles and had 87 embryo transfer procedures followed by a 24 h period of bed rest. Ninety-five patients (group B) underwent 102 treatment cycles and had 93 embryo transfer followed by a 20 min period of bed rest.

Trans-vaginal ultrasound examination of ovarian masses in premenopausal women.

Objective: Two scoring systems based on trans-vaginal sonographic findings of ovarian tumors were evaluated with respect to the prediction of ovarian malignancy.

Study Design: In this retrospective study, 64 premenopausal non-pregnant patients with an ovarian tumor underwent trans-vaginal sonography from 1991 to 1993. In each women a numerical score was calculated using two methods.

Epidural anesthesia in an in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer program.

Objectives: To investigate the potential advantages of epidural anesthesia in an in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer program.

Study Design: Between January 1991 and December 1992, 148 infertile patients underwent transvaginal ultrasound guided oocyte retrieval. A total of 44 patients (group A) had 50 retrievals under epidural anesthesia, and 104 patients (group B, control group) 112 retrievals under intravenous sedation (propofol) with mask-assisted ventilation (nitrous oxide).
