Background: Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) is a method used to evaluate functional impairment of patients with various diseases.
Objective: The objective was to use CPET to estimate the usability of anthropometric index (AI) in patients with pectus excavatum (PE) as a marker of functional impairment caused by chest deformity.
Methods: The study included 32 paediatric patients (28 males) with PE.

This study was intended to evaluate the relationship between secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG) timing and the alveolar volume in patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP). The material consisted of CTs of 35 patients (17 males, 18 females) with UCLP who underwent a one-stage primary cleft repair at a mean age of 8.4 months and SABG at different timings ranges of 1.

Background: Common surgical techniques aim to turn the entire vomerine mucosa with vomer flaps either to the oral side or to the nasal side. The latter approach is widely performed due to the similarity in color to the nasal mucosa. However, we lack a histologic description of the curved vomerine mucosa in cleft lip and palate malformations.

The study aimed at comparing maxillofacial morphology and burden of surgical treatment in post-pubertal patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) following early vs. late secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG). In this retrospective study maxillofacial morphology was assessed on lateral cephalograms of skeletally matured patients with UCLP operated on consecutively in one center by the same method of one-stage primary cleft repair followed by SABG.

Introduction: Gastric acidity plays an important role in the protection of infants against various pathogens from the environment. The histamine-2 receptor blockers (H2-blockers) are off-labeled drugs that are frequently prescribed in preterm neonates to prevent stress ulcers. The impact of the H2-blockers on the development of the necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm infants is still controversial, particularly in the developing world.

Its complete form includes a midline epigastric abdominal wall defect, defects affecting the lower sternum, anterior diaphragm, diaphragmatic pericardium, and various intracardiac defects.
Patient Concerns: We report a case of complete POC affecting only the first-born of a set of premature dizygotic twins.

As part of the European Union-funded project designated Paediatric Rare Tumours Network - European Registry (PARTNER), the European Cooperative Study Group for Pediatric Rare Tumors (EXPeRT) is continuously developing consensus recommendations in order to harmonize standard care for very rare solid tumors of children and adolescents. This paper presents the internationally recognized recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of sex cord stromal tumors (SCST). The clinical approach to sex cord stromal tumors of the testis (TSCST) and ovary (OSCST) depends on histological differentiation and tumor stage.

Rationale: Pheochromocytoma (PHEO) is a rare neuroendocrine tumor arising from chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla. Most pediatric PHEOs are functional tumors, and clinical manifestations are related to catecholamine hypersecretion and/or tumor mass effects.
Patient Concerns: We report here a case of a 10-year-old boy with a highly functional adrenal PHEO detected after the evaluation of a generalized tonic-clonic seizure in the patient.

Objectives: To evaluate the clinical outcome and complications in the pediatric population who had splenectomy at our institution, emphasizing the incidence of postplenectomy reactive thrombocytosis (RT) and its clinical significance in children without underlying hematological malignancies.
Materials And Methods: The medical records of pediatric patients undergoing splenectomy were retrospectively reviewed for the period 1999-2018. The following variables were analyzed: Demographic parameters (age, sex), indications for surgery, operative procedures, preoperative and postoperative platelet count (postplenectomy RT), the use of anticoagulant therapy, and postoperative complications.

Penile torsion is a rare congenital anomaly that is usually characterized by a counterclockwise rotation of the penile shaft or glans. Although several surgical techniques for its correction have been proposed, the consensus of choosing the most efficient technique remains controversial. Herein, we report our operational approach that successfully corrected a severe (>90 degrees) isolated penile torsion in the form of penile degloving and dorsal dartos flap rotation surgery.
