Uterine fibroids (UFs) are the most common benign tumors of female genital diseases, unlike uterine leiomyosarcoma (LMS), a rare and aggressive uterine cancer. This narrative review aims to discuss the biology and diagnosis of LMS and, at the same time, their differential diagnosis, in order to distinguish the biological and molecular origins. The authors performed a Medline and PubMed search for the years 1990-2022 using a combination of keywords on the topics to highlight the many genes and proteins involved in the pathogenesis of LMS.

Protein expression/activity of antioxidative defense enzymes (AD) in seminal plasma of fertile men might be used as biomarkers of male fertility status. To test this concept, the present study examined the semen parameters of males among 14 normal idiopathic (normozoospermia) and 84 subnormal (teratozoospermia, oligoteratozoospermia, oligoasthenoteratozoospermia) infertile individuals\. We investigated levels of protein expression/activity of Cu, Zn superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD), manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD), catalase and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), their association with functional sperm parameters, as well as their potential to serve as biomarkers of specific sperm pathologies.

Nitric oxide (NO) is a signaling molecule responsible for initiation of molecular events that influence sperm functionality in a concentration-dependent manner. It is still not fully understood how seminal plasma NO contributes to sperm pathologies. The aim of this study was to elucidate whether and how NO is implicated in etiology of different sperm abnormalities.

Persistent infection with one or more highly oncogenic human papillomaviruses (HPVs) or high-risk-HPV (HR-HPV) is necessary but not a sufficient aetiological agent for the development of cervical neoplasia. A number of viral, host, environmental and behavioural factors are suggested to be associated with the progression of cervical disorder. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of environmental and behavioural cofactors on the development of cervical disorders in HR-HPV-infected women in Serbia.

Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS; OMIM #130650) is an overgrowth syndrome caused by different genetic or epigenetic alterations affecting imprinted regions on chromosome 11p15.5. Here we report a family with multiple offspring affected with BWS including giant omphalocoeles in which maternal transmission of a chromosomal rearrangement including an inversion and two deletions leads to hypomethylation of the imprint control region 2 (ICR2).

Background: Semen analysis is the cornerstone in the evaluation of male (in)fertility. However, there are men with normal semen tests but with impaired fertilizing ability, as well as fertile men with poor sperm characteristics. Thus, there is rising interest to find novel parameters that will help to predict and define the functional capacity of spermatozoa.

Background: Therapy-induced leukemia is a well-known clinical syndrome occurring as a late complication in patients treated with cytotoxic therapy.
Observation: We herein present results of analysis of common gene polymorphisms in methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) genes in a 10-year-old boy who developed very rare type of cancer, mixed phenotype acute leukemia, 6 years after treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Conclusions: Impairment in function of GST and MTHFR enzymes found in our patient may have contributed to the development of secondary mixed phenotype acute leukemia, although precise mechanism remains elusive.

The following is a description of an extremely rare tumor of the uterus, malignant atypical polypoid adenomyoma (APA), admixed with well-differentiated endometroid carcinoma, in a 29-year-old patient previously treated for sterility in whom, due to the existence of a ten-millimeter sessile tumor on the uterine corpus, verified by transvaginal ultrasonography (TVUS), a hysteroscopic resection of the anomaly was performed. The patient underwent all requisite examinations and was referred to the malignant diseases panel for an examination and a decision on further treatment. As the patient wished to preserve fertility, the authors decided to continue performing regular controls at intervals of two to three months.

Background/aim: Therapy of the early stages of cervical carcinoma is surgical or radiation therapy, and for advanced stages chemoradiotherapy. Pelvic and paraaortic lymphadenectomy in early stages offers the most important prognostic factor for survival. To evaluate the method and possible influence on surgical and therapy of the disease, we performed sentinel node (SN) identification and excision during open radical hysterectomy and lymphadenectomy in stage Ib-IIa cervical carcinoma.
