Objective: We aimed to evaluate the accuracy of sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping with transvaginal ultrasound-guided myometrial injection of radiotracer (TUMIR) to detect lymph node (LN) metastases, in patients with intermediate and high-risk endometrial cancer (EC), focusing on its performance to detect paraaortic involvement.

Methods: Prospective study including women with preoperative intermediate or high-risk EC, according to ESMO-ESGO-ESTRO consensus, who underwent SLN mapping using the TUMIR approach. SLNs were preoperatively localized by planar and single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography images, and intraoperatively by gamma-probe.

Colposcopic Impression Has a Key Role in the Estimation of the Risk of HSIL/CIN3.

Cancers (Basel)

March 2021

Institute Clinic of Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Neonatology, Hospital Clínic, University of Barcelona, 08036 Barcelona, Spain.

Recently published guidelines stratify the risk of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion/grade 3 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (HSIL/CIN3) based on hrHPV detection and Pap smear results. However, colposcopic impression could also provide valuable information for risk estimation. We aimed to analyze the value of adding colposcopic impression to screening tests for the diagnosis of HSIL/CIN3 in 302 women referred for colposcopy due to an abnormal Pap smear.

Endometriosis-associated malignancy in an episiotomy scar is rare. The predictive factors are poorly understood as are the mechanisms and pathways associated with implantation and malignant transformation. In this study we describe the cases reported in the literature of malignancies arising in endometriosis foci of an episiotomy scar.

Usually poor ovarian response (POR) to gonadotropins reflects a diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) that gives place to few recruitable follicles despite aggressive stimulation. The reduction in the quantity and quality of the oocytes with advanced age is physiological. However, some women experience DOR much earlier and become prematurely infertile, producing an accelerated follicular depletion towards primary ovarian insufficiency (POI).

P16 and HPV Genotype Significance in HPV-Associated Cervical Cancer-A Large Cohort of Two Tertiary Referral Centers.

Int J Mol Sci

February 2021

Department of Pathology, Instituto Português de Oncologia de Lisboa Francisco Gentil, 1099-023 Lisbon, Portugal.

The expression of p16 is a good surrogate of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in HPV-associated cancers. The significance of p16 expression, HPV genotype and genera in the outcome of patients with HPV-associated cervical cancer (CC) is unclear. Our aim is to ascertain the prognostic significance of these factors.

Drug-Free IVA has been recently introduced as a therapeutic option for patients with Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). Despite the existing limited results, it can be considered as a promising option for these patients to achieve their own offspring. Here we report the case of a 35-year-old woman diagnosed with POI at 30 years of age.

Objectives: The aim of this prospective study was to correlate the Doppler ultrasonography of the uterine arteries with the Kurjak Antenatal Neurodevelopmental Test (KANET), to investigate the effect of uterine artery flow assessed by the Doppler on fetal behavior.

Methods: A population of 80 pregnant women in the second trimester of pregnancy was included for uterine artery Doppler (UAD) assessment. The investigation group consisted of 40 women with abnormal UAD, while the control group consisted of 40 women with normal UAD.

Objectives: Given the adverse effects of either polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or overweight/obesity, one could speculate that patients with both would fare worse than others. We sought to evaluate the relationship between pregravid BMI and pregnancy complications in PCOS patients conceived by assisted reproductive techniques (ART).

Methods: Maternal and fetal/neonatal outcomes of singleton pregnancies after assisted reproduction in women with and without PCOS were compared by pregravid body mass index (BMI, <24.

Objective: Follicular Output Rate (FORT) is an efficient quantitative and qualitative marker of ovarian responsiveness to gonadotropins. Transdermal testosterone (TT) has been used as adjuvant therapy to gonadotrophins in order to improve ovarian response in poor responders (PR). The aim of this study was to analyze whether TT can improve follicular sensitivity to gonadotropins using FORT.

Ultrasound is an effective tool to detect and characterize lesions of the uterosacral ligament, parametrium, and paracervix. They may be the site of diseases such as endometriosis and the later stages of cervical cancer. Endometriosis and advanced stages of cervical cancer may infiltrate the parametrium and may also involve the ureter, resulting in a more complex surgery.

Quality of life in adenomyosis (AD) patients has been poorly investigated. Previous data suggest that AD has negative impact on the quality of life in these women. From September 2018 to December 2019, all consecutive female premenopausal patients aged ≥18 years diagnosed with AD by transvaginal ultrasound (TVU) were invited to participate in a comparative cross-sectional study.

Several species are widely distributed in nature, but is the only species frequently isolated in hospitals. This pathogen is mainly responsible for nosocomial infection, mostly in immunocompromised hosts. A 26-year-old woman with a twin pregnancy, regularly controlled, was hospitalized at 24 + 5 weeks of gestation due to scant vaginal bleeding, lower abdominal pain, and body temperature up to 37.

Tamoxifen is a commonly used selective estrogen receptor modulator applied in the treatment for breast cancer. However, in the endometrium, Tamoxifen stimulates tissue growth, cellular transformation, the migration of the cells, and metastatic potential in endometrial cancer. Considering that uterine cancer is the most common neoplasm of the reproductive tract and the third most common neoplastic disease in women, the aim of this study was to investigate if applying elastography in examining the endometrium was beneficial for uterine cancer screening protocols in women on selective estrogen receptor modulator therapy.

Virgin olive oil is a characteristic component and the main source of fat of the Mediterranean diet. It is a mix of high-value health compounds, including monounsaturated fatty acids (mainly oleic acid), simple phenols (such as hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol), secoiridoids (such as oleuropein, oleocanthal), flavonoids, and terpenoids (such as squalene). Olive oil consumption has been shown to improve different aspects of human health and has been associated with a lower risk of cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • Chromosome abnormalities are linked to about 10% of premature ovarian insufficiency cases, with the FMR1 gene premutation found in up to 13% of familial cases, prompting research in a Portuguese population.
  • A study of 94 women showed a 16.5% prevalence of chromosome abnormalities, predominantly involving the X chromosome, and a 6.7% prevalence of FMR1 premutation, indicating these genetic factors do not significantly affect menopause age or hormone levels.
  • The findings highlight the importance of genetic testing for better understanding and counseling in cases of premature ovarian insufficiency, revealing a higher rate of chromosome abnormalities in the studied population compared to other groups.
