It has been suggested that patients with clinical features suggestive of antiphospholipid syndrome but being lupus anticoagulant (LA) and anticardiolipin (aCL) negative, should be tested for antibodies to beta(2) glycoprotein-I (abeta(2)GP-I), a protein involved in the binding of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) to phospholipid surfaces. This was investigated in the present study where a total of 385 women aged View Article and Find Full Text PDF

Recurrent empty follicle syndrome successfully treated with recombinant human chorionic gonadotrophin.

Hum Reprod

July 1999

Institut Clínic of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Neonatology, Faculty of Medicine, Barcelona, Spain.

We report a case of a patient with polycystic ovary syndrome and primary infertility who was admitted to our in-vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) programme because of her partner's severe oligozoospermia and asthenozoospermia. Ovarian stimulation was accomplished in the three treatment cycles using gonadotrophin therapy after a dual approach with ovarian suppression using oral contraceptive pills followed by gonadotrophin-releasing hormone agonist therapy. Oocyte retrieval was unsuccessful in the first two treated cycles despite the fact that human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) from three different batches was used.

p53 mutation and p53 protein overexpression are common findings in ovarian carcinomas. In order to evaluate the prognostic significance of the p53 status and its role in metastasis, we examined 104 ovarian carcinomas, among them 83 cases with follow-up data, and 40 pairs of primary tumors and metastases, by p53 immunohistochemistry and temperature-gradient gel electrophoresis. Comparison of primary tumors and their metastases revealed identical results in 88%-90% of the cases, indicating that, in most cases, mutant p53 occurs prior to metastatic spread and remains clonally conserved.

Zinc status in women with premature rupture of membranes at term.

Obstet Gynecol

October 1990

Clinic of Gynecology, Academy of Medicine, Lublin, Poland.

Zinc concentrations were measured by atomic absorption spectrometry in whole blood, scalp hair, pubic hair, and colostrum from patients at term with and without premature rupture of membranes (PROM). A maternal zinc index was established for each patient, expressed as an average ranking of the four determinations. The mean +/- SD value of the maternal zinc index in patients with PROM was significantly lower than in patients without this complication (4.

Protein concentration in pre-ovulatory follicular fluid related to ovarian stimulation.

Int J Gynaecol Obstet

May 1990

University Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics, School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, Yugoslavia.

Sixty follicular fluids obtained from 26 women with either clomiphene citrate and human menopausal gonadotropins (hMG) or hMG-induced ovulation were analyzed for the contents of total proteins, fibrinogen, plasminogen, antithrombin III, ceruloplasmin, alpha-2 macroglobulin, alpha-1 antitrypsin and immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA, IgM). Concentrations of these proteins was correlated to the type of ovarian follicle growth induction. Follicular fluids from patients stimulated with clomiphene citrate-hMG contained significantly higher concentrations of ceruloplasmin than those treated with hMG alone.

Cord blood serum creatine kinase isoenzymes with placental dysfunction.

J Perinat Med

March 1988

Clinic of Gynecology, Medical Academy, Bialystok, Poland.

It has been suggested that perinatal asphyxia is not generally followed by neurological impairment unless there is preexisting chronic fetal distress. In cases of brain damage one can observe elevated levels of CK-BB. The purpose of our study was to evaluate CK isoenzymes in umbilical cord blood sera of newborns affected by chronic fetal distress.
