Background: In refractory cardiac arrest, extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation may increase the survival chance. However, in cases of unsuccessful treatment, extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation may additionally provide an important source of organ donors. Therefore, we hypothesized that implementing extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation service into a high-volume cardiac arrest center's routine would increases organ donors' availability.

Introduction: Thyroid specialists influence how hypothyroid patients are treated, including patients managed in primary care. Given that physician characteristics influence patient care, this study aimed to explore thyroid specialist profiles and associations with geo-economic factors.
Methods: Thyroid specialists from 28 countries were invited to respond to a questionnaire, Treatment of Hypothyroidism in Europe by Specialists: an International Survey (THESIS).
Despite the beneficial effect of myo-inositol on metabolic, hormonal, and reproductive parameters of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients, 28% to 38% could be resistant to this treatment. The combination with the milk protein α-lactalbumin can be a useful therapeutic approach to overcome inositol resistance and achieve ovulation in these women. This open-label prospective study aimed to compare the effects of supplementing myo-inositol plus α-lactalbumin vs myo-inositol alone on reproductive and metabolic abnormalities in PCOS.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has revolutionized the priorities of the medical society worldwide. Although most patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 exhibit respiratory symptoms, other organs may also be involved, including the liver, often resulting in liver injury. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease in the world, and its prevalence is expected to increase together with the epidemics of type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Background: Higher intake of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) has been associated with increased risk of CVD and mortality in observational studies from Western countries but data from non-Western countries are limited.
Objectives: We aimed to assess the association between consumption of UPFs and risk of mortality and major CVD in a cohort from multiple world regions.
Design: This analysis includes 138,076 participants without a history of CVD between the ages of 35 and 70 y living on 5 continents, with a median follow-up of 10.

Non-healing diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) are the most notable and striking complications of diabetes mellitus. More than 25% of nonhealing DFU can ultimately lead to amputation of the lower extremity within 6-18 mo after the first manifestation of the wound. Although wound healing is complex, nutritional status is crucial in soft tissue repair.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a strong impact on the treatment of all diseases, especially chronic ones, and diabetic foot is no exception. The COVID-19 pandemic has favored the adoption of a new model of assistance delivery to facilitate the delivery of remote assistance to patients. The standard model based on face-to-face visits has been integrated by a hybrid model of telemedicine, home care and face-to-face visits to keep patients at home to minimize the number of in-person visits to clinics and admissions except for complicated DFUs.

Vitamin D deficiency has a high worldwide prevalence, but actions to improve this public health problem are challenged by the heterogeneity of nutritional and clinical vitamin D guidelines, with respect to the diagnosis and treatment of vitamin D deficiency. We aimed to address this issue by providing respective recommendations for adults, developed by a European expert panel, using the Delphi method to reach consensus. Increasing the awareness of vitamin D deficiency and efforts to harmonize vitamin D guidelines should be pursued.

The majority of incidentally discovered adrenal tumors are later characterized as non-producing adrenocortical adenomas (NPA). We asked whether laboratory abnormalities in parameters that reflect glucocorticoid action can be found in patients with NPA despite their nature of being clinically unapparent. Since glucocorticoids are potent immunosuppressants we studied blood counts and differential blood counts along with corticotropin and dehydroepiandrostenedione sulfate (DHEAS) blood concentrations, as well as cortisol values before and after an overnight 1 mg dexamethasone suppression test.

The diabetic foot ulcer is the most important reason for non-traumatic limb amputation. Based on recent data, it has been estimated that up to 34% of type 2 diabetes patients may develop diabetic foot ulcers once in their lifetime. Risk factors for developing foot ulcers are distal sensorimotor peripheral neuropathy, peripheral arterial disease, previous ulcers, and/or amputations.
