Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH)4 is one of the most threatening neurological complications associated with preterm birth which can lead to long-term sequela such as cerebral palsy. Early recognition of IVH risk may prevent its occurrence and/or reduce its severity. Using multivariate logistic regression analysis, risk factors significantly associated with IVH were identified and integrated into risk scales.

In Wilson disease (WD), liver copper (Cu) excess, caused by mutations in the ATPase Cu transporting beta (ATP7B), has been extensively studied. In contrast, in the gastrointestinal tract, responsible for dietary Cu uptake, ATP7B malfunction is poorly explored. We therefore investigated gut biopsies from WD patients and compared intestines from two rodent WD models and from human ATP7B knock-out intestinal cells to their respective wild-type controls.

Introduction: Palmar plate fixation of the distal radius fracture involves dissecting the pronator quadratus (PQ). This is regardless of whether the approach is radial or ulnar to the flexor carpi radialis (FCR) tendon. It is not yet clear whether and to what extent this dissection leads to a functional loss of pronation or pronation strength.

Purpose: Medical researchers deal with a large amount of patient data to improve future treatment decisions and come up with new hypotheses. To facilitate working with a large database containing many patients and parameters, we propose a virtual data shelf, displaying the 3D anatomical surface models in an immersive VR environment.
Methods: Thereby, different functionalities such as sorting, filtering and finding similar cases are included.

Background: Flow diverters are an increasingly used treatment option for intracranial aneurysms. A recent addition to the European market is the DERIVO®2 Embolization Device (DED2), promising improved radiopacity. We aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of the DED2 regarding angiographic and clinical outcomes in ruptured and unruptured cerebral aneurysms.

Hepatocyte growth factor receptor (HGFR), also known as c-mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor (c-MET), plays a crucial role in the carcinogenesis of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). In contrast, the mechanisms contributing to aberrant expression of HGFR in EOC are not fully understood. In the present study, the expression of HGFR with its prognostic and predictive role was evaluated immunohistochemically in a cohort of 42 primary ovarian cancer patients.

Purpose: Distal radius fractures have great impact on activities of daily living of affected patients. Repeatedly, a non-anatomic restoration of the volar tilt can be observed in a minimum of 20% in postoperative X-ray control examinations. Hence, the question arises whether the achieved reduction is functionally acceptable, or whether a further attempt should be made to improve the surgical outcome.

Unlabelled: One of the most feared neurological complications of premature birth is intraventricular hemorrhage, frequently triggered by fluctuations in cerebral blood flow (CBF). Although several techniques for CBF measurement have been developed, they are not part of clinical routine in neonatal intensive care. A promising tool for monitoring of CBF is its numerical assessment using standard clinical parameters such as mean arterial pressure, carbon dioxide partial pressure (pCO) and oxygen partial pressure (pO).

Premature birth is one of the most important factors increasing the risk for brain damage in newborns. Development of an intraventricular hemorrhage in the immature brain is often triggered by fluctuations of cerebral blood flow (CBF). Therefore, monitoring of CBF becomes an important task in clinical care of preterm infants.

Currently, the same first-line chemotherapy is administered to almost all patients suffering from primary ovarian cancer. The high recurrence rate emphasizes the need for precise drug treatment in primary ovarian cancer. Being crucial in ovarian cancer progression and chemotherapeutic resistance, integrins became promising therapeutic targets.

Background And Purpose: The effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on telemedical care have not been described on a national level. Thus, we investigated the medical stroke treatment situation before, during, and after the first lockdown in Germany.
Methods: In this nationwide, multicenter study, data from 14 telemedical networks including 31 network centers and 155 spoke hospitals covering large parts of Germany were analyzed regarding patients' characteristics, stroke type/severity, and acute stroke treatment.

CD3 and CD8 lymphocytes are well known prognostic markers in primary ovarian cancer. In contrast, the predictive value of the immune infiltrate concerning treatment response and the involvement of immune heterogeneity between primary and metastatic lesions are poorly understood. In this study, the immune infiltrate of 49 primary tumors and 38 corresponding lesions in the omentum ( = 23) and the peritoneum ( = 15) was immunohistochemically analyzed and correlated with clinicopathological factors and platinum-sensitivity.

Background: Little is known about non-operative treatment of proximal humerus 4-part and severe displaced fractures as those are normally treated operatively. In this study, we present a historical collective of two level I trauma centers, where all humeral head fractures, despite displaced fractures, received non-operative treatment within a 10 years period. Functional and clinical results of 2-, 3- and 4-part fractures were compared to those after fixed angle intramedullary nailing by matched pair analysis.

Background: The key for successful delivery in minimally-invasive hip replacement lies in the exact knowledge about the surgical anatomy. The minimally-invasive direct anterior approach to the hip joint makes it necessary to clearly identify the tensor fasciae latae muscle in order to enter the Hueter interval without damaging the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. However, due to the inherently restricted overview in minimally-invasive surgery, this can be difficult even for experienced surgeons.

Introduction: Vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) are one of the most common injuries in the aging population presenting with an annual incidence of 1.4 million new cases in Europe. Current treatment strategies focus on cement-associated solutions (kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty techniques).

This study analyses the effect of eptotermin α application into fractured vertebrae. It is hypothesized that eptotermin α is capable to enhance bony healing of the osteoporotic spine. In 10 Merino sheep osteoporosis induction was performed by ovariectomy, corticosteroid therapy and calcium/phosphorus/vitamin D-deficient diet; followed by standardized creation of lumbar vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) type A3.

Background: Conventional cardiac pacemakers are still often regarded as a contraindication to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We conducted this study to support the hypothesis that it is safe to scan patients with cardiac pacemakers in a 1.5 Tesla MRI, if close supervision and monitoring as well as adequate pre- and postscan programming is provided.

Unlabelled: In an experimental study we investigated the EMG response in 10 human subjects after intraarticular stimulation of the shoulder joint capsule following arthroscopic insertion of the stimulating electrode in the anterior glenohumeral ligaments. The muscle response was documented by mono- or bipolar electrodes. Reproducible EMG response patterns were present in superficial as well as in deep muscle layers.
