Systemic inflammatory indices, originally developed to predict the prognosis of cancer patients, have found increasing application in various medical areas, including cardiovascular research. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between ascending aortic dilatation in bicuspid aortic valve patients and systemic inflammatory indices. This retrospective cross-sectional study included 122 patients with bicuspid aortic valves.

Previous studies demonstrated that Th1 cytokines like IL-2, IL-12 and IFN-γ have initiatory role in alopecia areata (AA) and positive correlation with disease severity. They informed that serum levels of Th17 cytokines, IL-17, IL-22, IL-23 increased in active AA patients and corelated, particularly IL-17, with disease severity. In recent reports it was showed the balance between Th17 and Treg cells is crucial for maintaining tolerance to self-antigens, and an imbalance towards Th17 may contribute to the development of autoimmune diseases like AA.

Aim Lung adenocarcinoma (ADC) is a leading subtype of lung cancer, histologically defined with five different architectural growth patterns: lepidic, acinar, papillary, solid and micropapillary. The aim of this study was to explore the prevalence of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation and a relationship between the specific histological patterns of lung ADC in the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Methods The study included tumour tissue from 102 patients with completely resected lung ADC from 2015 to 2020.

Background: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a condition of increased intracranial pressure of unknown aetiology. Principal symptoms are headache, visual disturbances, and obesity, together with elevated intracranial pressure. Unspecified MRI, despite normal ventricle size, suggests alterations in the water flux cellular mediated by the brain water channel aquaporin-4 (AQP4).

Aim To determine the value of IFN (intzerferon)-α in the patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to correlate IFN-α with values of non-specific biochemical parameters of inflammation (C-reactive protein, leukocytes values, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, albumins and globulins). Methods Research included 55 patients with SLE diagnosis and a control group consisted of 25 healthy subjects (during period 2019-2020). IFN (Interferon)-α and non-specific biochemical parameters of inflammation were obtained using standard protocols.

Candidate gene studies have analyzed the effect of specific vitamin D pathway genes on vitamin D availability; however, it is not clear whether genetic variants also affect overall bone metabolism. This study evaluated the association between genetic polymorphisms in , and and serum levels of total 25(OH)D, iPTH and other mineral metabolism biomarkers (albumin, total calcium and phosphorus) in a sample of 273 older Spanish adults. We observed a significant difference between rs10741657 codominant model and total 25(OH)D levels after adjusting them by gender ( = 0.

Primary peritonitis (PP) and Ménétrier's Disease (MD) are both rare conditions among pediatric population. Although about 150 MD cases have been described in the scientific literature to date, its onset with a PP is an unusual condition. We present a case of an 11-year-old boy who was admitted to our unit because of abdominal pain and distension.

Objective: The aim of this study was to find an effective and simple method by which outpatient hemodialysis can be performed using diffusion and ultrafiltration methods with different procedures on a model.

Methods: A solution containing high-level urea and creatinine similar to the blood values of patients with chronic renal failure was used, with the expectation of clearing it as in hemodialysis using a model with the designed system. The product values at the beginning and end of the process were determined, and the cleaning rates were calculated.

The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnostic value of serum G protein-coupled oestrogen receptor (GPER) levels and their correlation with semen parameters in men with infertility. The participants were divided into two groups as follows: 76 fertile control men (Group 1) and 77 infertile men (Group 2). Semen analysis, hormonal evaluation, serum GPER level and scrotal ultrasound of the participants were evaluated.

As the relationship between vitamin D and various diseases or health conditions has become known, interest in the contribution of vitamin D to overall health-related quality of life (QoL) has increased. We examined the relationship between vitamin D status and QoL in 273 participants aged 65 years and older. Serum levels of total calcium, phosphorus, intact parathyroid hormone, albumin, and 25-hydroxyvitaminD3 were analyzed.

Objective: Cardiovascular complications are still the primary reason for high mortality rates worldwide. The determination of risk factors is important to prevent stroke. The aim of the present study was to analyze the importance of serum lipid indexes and urinary sodium (Na)/potassium (K) excretion in patients with stroke together with sex differences.

Aim: Central sensitization-related neuroaudiological symptoms are frequently seen in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). This study aimed to evaluate the audiological signs and symptoms in patients with FMS and explore their relationship with oxidative stress markers.

Methods: This prospective controlled cross-sectional study compared the serum myeloperoxidase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), nitric oxide (NO), and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations in 44 patients with FMS diagnosed according to the 2010 American College of Rheumatology criteria and 44 healthy volunteers.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to determine the prevalence, incidence, and sex ratio of transsexualism in Madrid, analyzing data from 1,171 patients over an 8-year period.
  • - The findings revealed a prevalence rate of 22.1 cases per 100,000 residents, with a higher rate among male-to-female (31.2) compared to female-to-male (12.9), leading to a sex ratio of approximately 2.2:1.
  • - The higher prevalence in Madrid compared to other European countries may be attributed to easy access to gender identity services and a supportive social and legal environment.
