Context: Current palliative care guidelines lack a specific treatment algorithm for nausea and emesis. Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic with antiemetic activity that's recommended in the guidelines for the treatment of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, but outside of oncologic indications there is a lack of research.
Objectives: To describe the safety and efficacy of olanzapine for nausea and emesis in the palliative care domain, excluding patients actively undergoing chemotherapy or radiation.

Introduction: Intravenous haloperidol has been shown to decrease milligram morphine equivalents (MME) of analgesia and reduce hospital admissions for diabetic gastroparesis. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether haloperidol decreases MME for the treatment of non-specific abdominal pain diagnoses in the emergency department (ED), including gastroparesis, cyclic vomiting, cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, and unspecified abdominal pain. The primary outcome compared the difference in MME between encounters.

Objective: To determine if enhancements developed to support the use of an electronic Early Warning System (EWS) resulted in quicker stabilization of clinical deterioration.
Background: Early Warning Systems are effective for alerting nurses to patient deterioration, but have not demonstrated positive clinical impact. An EWS embedded within an electronic medical record (EMR) was enhanced with tools to support nurses' ability to recognize and intervene in a timely manner for signs of deterioration.

Aim: To determine how an enhanced early warning system has an impact on nursing practice.
Background: Early warning systems score physiologic measures and alert nurses to subtle changes in patient condition. Critics of early warning systems have expressed concern that nurses would rely on a score rather than assessment skills and critical thinking to determine the need for intervention.
