Objective: While students in the 2023 Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (Oto-HNS) residency match were allowed 7 preference signals, this number increased to 25 for the 2024 match with the goal of reducing the overall application volume. We sought to understand the impact of this change to application volume and interview patterns.
Study Design: Cross-sectional survey.

CD19-targeting treatments have shown promise in relapsed/refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Loncastuximab tesirine (loncastuximab tesirine-lpyl [Lonca]) is a CD19-targeting antibody-drug conjugate indicated for R/R DLBCL after at least two systemic treatments. CD19 expression was evaluated in patients receiving Lonca in the LOTIS-2 clinical trial with available tissue samples obtained after last systemic therapy/before Lonca treatment.

Background: Data regarding permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation following tricuspid valve surgery (TVS) are limited. We sought to evaluate its incidence, risk factors, and outcomes.
Methods And Results: Medicare beneficiaries who underwent TVS from 2013 to 2020 were identified.
Background: Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is an extremely serious and potentially fatal condition that can develop in patients taking heparin-based medications, such as unfractionated heparin (UFH) or low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH). The incidence and risk factors for HIT in critically ill patients, however, are not well defined.
Methods: We retrospectively collected data on HIT test results, route of heparin administration, age, sex, heparin type (UFH or LMWH), and date of illness from patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and regular nursing floor (non-ICU) at our hospital between January 2011 and December 2014.
Background And Aim: Previous studies conducted at single centers have suggested that patients with cirrhosis are at a greater risk for worse outcomes with COVID-19. However, there is limited data on a national level in the United States. We aimed to study hospital-related outcomes and identify the predictors of poor outcomes in patients with cirrhosis and concurrent COVID-19.

This pilot study aims to determine if patients untrained in performing ultrasound can self-scan to obtain images under remote clinician teleguidance during a simulated telehealth encounter. This study also seeks to describe the patients' comfort level and barriers to performing an ultrasound examination on themselves using a handheld ultrasound device. This was a single center prospective observational cohort study conducted over a 4-month period in 2021.

Conventional semen analysis commonly used to detect sperm abnormalities is insufficient, as 30% of AMAB patients experiencing infertility show normal results in this test. From a genetic perspective, the assessment of sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) is important as a parameter of sperm quality.

Background Residual risk of cardiovascular events and plaque progression remains despite reduction in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Factors contributing to residual risk remain unclear. The authors examined the role of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid in coronary plaque regression and its predictors.

Background Statins are guideline-recommended medications that reduce cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes. Yet, statin use is concerningly low in this high-risk population. Identifying reasons for statin nonuse, which are typically described in unstructured electronic health record data, can inform targeted system interventions to improve statin use.

We aimed to assess gender trends in research authorship, authorship in leading roles, mentorship, and research team diversity. Methods and Results We identified "cardiac and cardiovascular systems" journals from 2002 to 2020 using Journal Citation Reports 2019 (Web of Science, Clarivate Analytics).

Glycogen storage disease type 1a (GSD1a) is an inborn error of glucose metabolism characterized by fasting hypoglycemia, hepatomegaly, and growth failure. Late complications include nephropathy and hepatic adenomas. We conducted a retrospective observational study on a cohort of Amish patients with GSD1a.

Methods and Results Two atrial fibrillation cohorts from Medicare were identified from 2015 to 2019. They comprised patients who underwent surgical or transcatheter mitral valve repair (MV repair cohort) and surgical aortic or mitral bioprosthetic or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (bioprosthetic cohort).

Background Social and environmental factors play an important role in the rising health care burden of cardiovascular disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention developed the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) from US census data as a tool for public health officials to identify communities in need of support in the setting of a hazardous event. SVI (ranging from a least vulnerable score of 0 to a most vulnerable score of 1) ranks communities on 15 social factors including unemployment, minoritized groups status, and disability, and groups them under 4 broad themes: socioeconomic status, housing and transportation, minoritized groups, and household composition.
