Background: For reimbursement purposes, current coding fails to reflect the true complexity and resource utilization of hospital encounters for surgeries performed to treat periprosthetic total hip arthroplasty (THA) infection. Therefore, when compared to aseptic revisions, we sought to determine (1) Is length of stay (LOS) longer for septic surgeries? (2) Are septic procedures more expensive? and (3) How do different surgical procedures for infection compare with aseptic revisions on hospital LOS and charges?
Methods: Retrospective chart review of 596 unilateral THA reoperations (473 patients) performed at a single institution (January 2015 to November 2020). Demographics, professional (ie, physicians), and technical (ie, room, implants) hospital charges per case were compared between 6 different surgery types: (1) aseptic revision (control; n = 364); (2) debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (n = 11); (3) explantation (n = 145); (4) spacer exchange (n = 7); (5) 2-stage reimplantation (n = 59); and (6) 1-stage reimplantation (n = 10).

Early prediction of recurrence in high-grade glioma (HGG) is critical due to its aggressive nature and poor prognosis. Distinguishing true recurrence from treatment-related changes, such as radionecrosis, is a major diagnostic challenge. Machine learning (ML) offers a novel approach, leveraging advanced algorithms to analyze complex imaging data with high precision.

The risk of nerve injury is high, given the nerves' relatively small caliber and strictly-confined space through which they pass. In the current report, we describe using a novel fluorescence imaging system developed to detect nerve autofluorescence in a 66-year-old man who presented with a left-sided Type II inguinal hernia and underwent inguinal hernioplasty.

Background: Radiation-induced sarcoma (RIS) is an exceptionally rare occurrence following radiation therapy, and manifestation usually occurs after a several-year latency period. Herein, the authors report the development of a radiation-induced osteosarcoma of the frontoparietal calvaria following treatment for an oligodendroglioma in an 84-year-old woman.
Observations: The patient had been diagnosed with a grade III anaplastic oligodendroglioma when she was 78 years old.

Introduction: Inclisiran is a novel drug that employs ribonucleic acid (RNA) interference to lower the levels of the proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) protein. It has demonstrated a significant reduction in LDL cholesterol levels compared to a placebo. We aim to comprehensively evaluate the safety of using Inclisiran in patients with dyslipidemia and ASCVD or an ASCVD risk equivalent.

No consensus exists on the optimal therapy for resectable gastric cancer (GC) and gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) tumors, including the effectiveness of chemoradiotherapy versus perioperative chemotherapy (PC). Our study aimed to compare overall survival (OS) outcomes associated with the recommended treatment modalities for GC and GEJ tumors and evaluate treatment trends from 2010 to 2020. A national registry cohort identified patients with ≥ cT2 nonmetastatic GC and GEJ cancer.

Aim: Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) is a well-known risk factor in colorectal cancer that is associated with a worse prognosis. The present study aimed to assess the characteristics of patients with LVI-positive colon cancer according to the status of nodal metastases and to study the association between LVI-nodal status and survival.
Method: This retrospective study assessed the association between LVI and lymph node metastases in colon cancer, using data from the National Cancer Database.

Objectives: Robotic-assisted laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is a minimally invasive method for ablating seizure foci and has gained prominence in epilepsy treatment. The use of robotic guidance in these procedures can minimize errors in probe placement, potentially leading to better clinical outcomes. In this meta-analysis, we assessed the accuracy, safety, and effectiveness of robot-assisted LITT for drug-resistant epilepsy.

Objective: To compare the rate of diagnosing clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) in men with elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) stratified by baseline IsoPSA Index, thus assessing IsoPSA's intermediate-term predictive ability for csPCa.
Material And Methods: Single-center retrospective review of consecutive patients (n = 1578) who underwent IsoPSA testing from November 2016-August 2022. Data dichotomized into patients with low (≤6) and high IsoPSA Indices (>6).

Background: We assessed association among household income, overall survival (OS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS) after proctectomy for rectal cancer.
Methods: Population-based cohort study included stage I-III rectal adenocarcinoma patients who underwent proctectomy (2010-2020), subdivided by household income at diagnosis [low (<$50,000), average ($50,000-74,999), above-average (≥$75,000)] and compared.
Results: Of 39,185 patients (59 % male; mean age 60.

The sacrum can harbor a diverse group of both benign and malignant tumors, including metastases. Primary tumors of the sacrum can arise from bone, cartilage, marrow, notochordal remnants, or surrounding nerves and vessels. Among a variety of primary tumors of the spine, chordoma, germ cell tumors and Ewing's sarcoma are recognized for their propensity to occur in the sacrum.

Introduction: Many interventional strategies are commonly used to treat chronic low back pain (CLBP), though few are specifically intended to target the distinct underlying pathomechanisms causing low back pain. Restorative neurostimulation has been suggested as a specific treatment for mechanical CLBP resulting from multifidus dysfunction. In this randomized controlled trial, we report outcomes from a cohort of patients with CLBP associated with multifidus dysfunction treated with restorative neurostimulation compared to those randomized to a control group receiving optimal medical management (OMM) over 1 year.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a severe autoimmune disorder that wreaks havoc on the central nervous system, leading to a spectrum of motor and cognitive impairments. There is no cure, and current treatment strategies rely on broad immunosuppression, leaving patients vulnerable to infections. To address this problem, our approach aims to induce antigen-specific tolerance, a much-needed shift in MS therapy.

Lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB) frequently leads to emergency department (ED) visits and hospitalizations, encompassing a spectrum of outcomes from spontaneous resolution to intrahospital mortality. The purpose of this study was to validate a scoring system designed to identify cases of low-risk LGIB, allowing for safe discharge from the ED. A retrospective analysis of all gastrointestinal bleeding cases presented at three EDs in 2020 was conducted, focusing specifically on patients with LGIB.
