Introduction: Fertility-sparing treatment (FST) for patients with cervical cancer intends to achieve oncologic outcomes comparable to those after radical treatment while maximizing reproductive outcomes, including the ability to conceive and minimizing the risk of prematurity.

Methodology: International multicentre retrospective FERTISS study focused on patients treated with FST analysed timing of FST relative to pregnancy, conception attempts and methods, abortion rates, prophylactic procedures reducing the risk of severe prematurity, pregnancy duration, and delivery mode.

Results: Of the 733 patients treated at 44 centres in 13 countries, 49.

Update on gene fusions and the emerging clinicopathological landscape of peritoneal and pleural mesotheliomas and other neoplasms.

ESMO Open

August 2024

The Unit of Molecular Pathology, INSERM 1052, CNRS 5286 of Cancer Research Center of Lyon, and Team Genetics, Epigenetics and Biology of Sarcomas, Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, Lyon; Department of Biopathology, CNR MESOPATH NETMESO, CLCC UNICANCER Leon Berard, Lyon; University Grenoble Alpes, Grenoble, France.

Background: Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive malignant neoplasm arising from mesothelial cells, which occasionally manifests recurrent fusions. EWSR1/FUS-CREB, YY1, MAP3K8, NR4A3, and ALK-rearranged proliferations have been reported in limited series with no clear histological or clinical correlations, limiting clinicians' ability to assess prognosis and integrate these new entities into therapeutic decisions. The aim of this study was to better characterize these rearranged proliferations histologically, molecularly, and clinically.

Objective: To elucidate the prognostic implications of mucosal and deep margin distances in oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC), and to assess a different margin cut-off value in T1-T2 versus T3-T4 tumors.

Methods: This single-center retrospective study included 223 patients who received surgery for a primary OTSCC between January 2017 and December 2021.

Results: Multivariable analysis showed that deep margin distance ≥3 mm in T1-T2 tumors and ≥5 mm in T3-T4 tumors was significantly associated with better RFS and OS.

Purpose: The RAS/MEK signaling pathway is essential in carcinogenesis and frequently altered in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), notably by KRAS mutations (KRASm) that affect 25%-30% of non-squamous NSCLC. This study aims to explore the impact of KRASm subtypes on disease phenotype and survival outcomes.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the French Epidemiological Strategy and Medical Economics database for advanced or metastatic lung cancer from 2011 to 2021.

Background: We designed this study based on both a physician practice survey and real-world patient data to: (1) evaluate clinical management practices in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) among medical centers located across France; and (2) describe first-line treatment patterns among patients with ES-SCLC following the introduction of immunotherapy into clinical practice.

Methods: A 50-item questionnaire was completed by physicians from 45 medical centers specialized in SCLC management. Responses were collected from June 2022 to January 2023.

Background: With the increase in the number of long-term survivors, interest is shifting from cancer survival to life and quality of life after cancer. These include consequences of long-term side effects of treatment, such as gonadotoxicity. Fertility preservation is becoming increasingly important in cancer management.

Introduction: Pruritus is a prevalent symptom, described as one of the most bothersome of psoriasis. Specific itch management remains a challenge, for which hydrotherapy could be used as adjunct care to medical treatment. Therefore, we assessed the immediate and longer-term benefit of 3 weeks of Avène thermal spring water hydrotherapy on chronic pruritus in patients in addition to their usual psoriasis and/or pruritus management.

  • Cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4/6 inhibitors, including palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib, have transformed the treatment landscape for metastatic breast cancer, particularly for hormone receptor-positive (HR+) and HER2-negative types.
  • These medications are now considered first-line treatments alongside endocrine therapies and have demonstrated effective outcomes with manageable side effects.
  • Dermatologic toxicities are common with CDK 4/6 inhibitors, affecting up to 15% of patients, and can include mild to moderate reactions like rashes and alopecia, though more severe skin reactions can occasionally arise.

Purpose: Despite sharing the same staging system as oral cavity cancers, upper gingiva and hard palate (UGHP) squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) have several features that make them a different entity. We aimed to analyze oncological outcomes and adverse prognostic factors of UGHP SCC, and assess an alternate T classification specific to UGHP SCC.

Methods: Retrospective bicentric study including all patients treated by surgery for a UGHP SCC between 2006 and 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • There is a growing need for comparable cancer prevalence indicators in Europe to improve survivorship care planning, as current measures may be biased due to limited registration periods.
  • The study compares standard prevalence estimates with alternative methods, including empirical indices from European cancer registries and pre-calculated indices from US-SEER registries, using data from 62 registries across 27 countries.
  • Results indicate that while empirical methods yield accurate estimates for cancers commonly diagnosed in the elderly, they significantly underestimate prevalence for early-onset cancers, suggesting that SEER estimates may be more reliable for a broader range of cancer types.
