Purpose: Few comparative studies assessed the current concept of individualised alignment for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and their outcomes at mid-term. This study aimed to evaluate the functional outcomes at 1 year of primary TKA performed with a functional positioning technique based on an image-based robotic-assisted system, compared to conventional TKA performed with a restricted kinematic alignment technique.

Methods: This retrospective comparative study included 100 primary TKAs performed with functional positioning principles using an image-based robotic-assisted system.

Background: The embedded participant (EP) plays a key role during a full scale/high-fidelity simulation (HFS) session. He/she is expected to guide the learner towards the achievement of the educational objectives of the scenario. However, his/her influence on learners' performance stands undetermined and this effect remains briefly addressed in the literature.

Food allergies trigger a variety of clinical adverse symptoms and clinical evidence suggests that the presence of food allergy-related IgG can be helpful in the diagnosis when analyzed at the peptide-epitope level. To validate and select the peptides based on their specificity toward hazelnut or peanut epitopes, the authors of this study developed a silicon-based microchip coupled with click-chemistry bound peptides identified by the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology. Peptides related to hazelnut and peanut allergies were identified and used to develop a silicon-based microchip.

Outpatient orthognathic surgery: a prospective study of predictive factors for the length of hospital stays.

Objectives: Transitioning from non-outpatient orthognathic surgery to outpatient surgery is a new challenge, and it is essential to target the eligible population as precisely as possible. Several authors describe series of outpatient orthognathic surgery but do not include the reasons for their success or failure. The main aim of this study was to identify the factors significantly associated with "successful" outpatient orthognathic treatment.

Clinical Applications of Photon-counting CT: A Review of Pioneer Studies and a Glimpse into the Future.

CT systems equipped with photon-counting detectors (PCDs), referred to as photon-counting CT (PCCT), are beginning to change imaging in several subspecialties, such as cardiac, vascular, thoracic, and musculoskeletal radiology. Evidence has been building in the literature underpinning the many advantages of PCCT for different clinical applications. These benefits derive from the distinct features of PCDs, which are made of semiconductor materials capable of converting photons directly into electric signal.

Medium-term clinical and radiographic outcomes of a cementless prosthesis with a 140° neck-shaft angle in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty.

Background: The design of humeral implants has evolved from the initial Grammont design, notably regarding the neck-shaft angle (NSA) and through the use of cementless prostheses. Stress shielding was frequently reported with cementless implants, the 2 main risk factors being humeral stem misalignment and high filling ratios. Our hypothesis was that standard length cementless stems with an NSA of 140° would facilitate good alignment with moderate filling ratios, thereby limiting stress shielding and ensuring good clinical outcomes.

New measurement technique for restoration of the trochlear offset after image-based robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty: a reliability study.

Introduction: The new concepts in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) tend to improve the alignment and ligament balancing after TKA. Nevertheless, the assessment of the anterior compartment is difficult. The purpose of this study was to describe a new measurement technique of trochlear offset restoration on CT-scan after primary robotic-assisted TKA and assess its reliability and repeatability.

Pathogenic role of autoantibodies at the ependyma in autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system.

Ependymal cells make up the epithelial monolayer that lines the brain ventricles and the spinal cord central canal that are filled with cerebrospinal fluid. The ependyma has several functions, including regulating solute exchange between the cerebrospinal fluid and parenchyma, controlling microcirculation of cerebrospinal fluid via coordinated ciliary beating, and acting as a partial barrier. Dysregulation of these functions can lead to waste clearance impairment, cerebrospinal fluid accumulation, hydrocephalus, and more.

Prospective Evaluation of the BD MAX StaphSR Assay for the Screening of Methicillin-Susceptible and -Resistant from Nasal Swabs Taken in Intensive Care Unit Patients.

Screening patients for nasal carriage has proved effective in preventing cross-contamination and endogenous infection with this bacterium. The aim of this study was to assess the performance of the BD MAX StaphSR assay with liquid Amies elution swabs, taken during routine care of intensive care unit patients. Direct and pre-enriched cultures were used as reference methods to screen for and methicillin-resistant (MRSA).

Mandibular Titanium Miniplates Change the Biomechanical Behaviour of the Mandible in the Case of Facial Trauma: A Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis.

Our study aimed to compare the biomechanical behaviour of mandibles with or without titanium miniplates when subjected to an impact after bone healing using a finite element model (FEM) of the human mandible. We simulated mandibular trauma on an FEM of a human mandible carrying or not two parasymphyseal miniplates and applying a concentrated force of 2000 N to four different areas, including the insertion area, the area straddling the edge of the miniplates and the adjacent bone, at a distance from the miniplates on the symphysis, and on the basilar border of the mandible below the miniplates. Then, we compared the Von Mises stress distributions between the two models.

Purpose: Surgeons want to achieve native kinematics in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Cruciate-substituting (CS) implants could restore the knee kinematics more efficiently than posterior-stabilised (PS) TKA. This study aimed to compare gait patterns in patients with CS or PS TKA at 6 months.

This article will elaborate how oncology care and research was adapted during the COVID pandemic in the Metropole of Lyon (France), including the lasting innovations that came out of the crisis. The research method involved 22 semi-structured qualitative interviews of healthcare professionals, managers, and researchers in the Lyon, France region coming from both public and private academic hospitals. The interviews took place from February 2021-December 2022 in order to assess the long-term adaptations and innovations in cancer care organization in the post-COVID era.

Cow's milk-based infant formula supplements in breastfed infants and primary prevention of cow's milk allergy: A commentary of the Committee on Nutrition of the French Society of Pediatrics.

The role of nutritional interventions for the primary prevention of cow's milk allergy (CMA) remains debated as well as the role of early introduction of allergenic foods, which is largely encouraged from the beginning of complementary feeding. Considering the introduction of cow's milk protein (CMP), current recommendations suggest avoidance of any cow's milk formula (CMF) supplements in breastfed infants in the maternity ward. By contrast, based on poor evidence, some authors support systematic supplements of CMP in breastfed children at risk of allergy from the first week of life.

Objective: The essential role of ACTH on the growth and function of the human foetal adrenal (HFA) has long been recognized. In addition, many studies have suggested a role of the pituitary hormone prolactin (PRL) in the regulation of the HFA, but the effects of this hormone on steroidogenesis and gene expression are still unknown. We show in a murine model of HCT that macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) promoted rapid antiviral activity and protection from viremia caused by murine CMV.

Introduction: It is necessary to gain insights into adherence to healthcare in people with severe haemophilia (PwSH), especially during the transition from paediatric to adult care, which is an important phase in lives of young people with childhood chronic disease. This adherence can be considered as a marker of successful transition.

Objectives: The main objective of the quantitative phase of the TRANSHEMO project was to compare the adherence to healthcare between adolescents and young adults (YAs) with severe haemophilia.

Exercise in long COVID is poorly studied. Nevertheless, exerciserehabilitation could improve cardiorespiratory, muscular and autonomic functions. We aimed to investigate improvement in physical and autonomic performances of long COVID patients ( = 38) after a 4-week exercise rehabilitation program (3 sessions/week) compared to two control groups composed of coronary artery disease ( = 38) and fibromyalgia patients ( = 38), two populations for whom exercise benefits are well known.

Prenatal diagnosis of microcephaly with simplified gyral pattern: series of eight cases.

Microcephaly with simplified gyral pattern (MSG) is an intrinsic genetic central nervous system disorder, characterized by microcephaly (a reduction of brain volume) and a simplified gyral pattern (a reduced number of gyri and shallow sulci associated with normal cortical thickness and neuroanatomical architecture), related to a reduced number of neuronal progenitors in the germinal matrix. We report the first prenatal series of MSG and define the prenatal imaging pattern, which should inform diagnosis and guide prenatal counseling in cases of fetal microcephaly. In this single-center retrospective study of fetuses with MSG, we assessed features on ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as well as genetic and neuropathological/postnatal data.
