The impact of hospital saturation on non-COVID-19 hospital mortality during the pandemic in France: a national population-based cohort study.

Background: A previous study reported significant excess mortality among non-COVID-19 patients due to disrupted surgical care caused by resource prioritization for COVID-19 cases in France. The primary objective was to investigate if a similar impact occurred for medical conditions and determine the effect of hospital saturation on non-COVID-19 hospital mortality during the first year of the pandemic in France.

Methods: We conducted a nationwide population-based cohort study including all adult patients hospitalized for non-COVID-19 acute medical conditions in France between March 1, 2020 and 31 May, 2020 (1st wave) and September 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020 (2nd wave).

Specific tibial landmarks to improve to accuracy of the tibial cut during total knee arthroplasty. A case control study.

Introduction: More personalized alignment techniques in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) have recently been described particularly for the young and active patients. Performing the ideal tibial cut might be challenging with a conventional ancillary. Therefore the aims of this study were: (1) to describe specific tibial landmarks to optimize the tibial cut in TKA; (2) to compare the accuracy of the tibial cut with these landmarks compared to a conventional technique.

Writing recently in Cell Reports, Liao et al. investigated the mechanisms of T cell infiltration of AT using single cell (sc)RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq), transplantation studies, in vitro co-cultures, and knock-out mice.

Purpose: This study aims to assess the functional outcomes based on restoring the anterior compartment after total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Methods: This retrospective study included 96 primary TKAs performed between 2021 and 2022. Functional positioning principles were applied using an image-based robotic-assisted system.

HOPE Mitigates Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Ex-Situ Split Grafts: A Comparative Study With Living Donation in Pediatric Liver Transplantation.

Optimizing graft preservation is key for ex-situ split grafts in pediatric liver transplantation (PSLT). Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion (HOPE) improves ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) and post-operative outcomes in adult LT. This study compares the use of HOPE in ex-situ partial grafts to static cold storage ex-situ partial grafts (SCS-Split) and to the gold standard living donor liver transplantation (LDLT).

Robotic assessment of patella tracking in total knee arthroplasty.

Objectives: Robotic tools have been developed to improve planning, accuracy and outcomes in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The purpose of this study was to describe and illustrate a novel technique for assessing the patellofemoral (PFJ) in TKA using an imageless robotic platform.

Methods: A consecutive series of 30 R-TKA was undertaken by a single surgeon utilising the described technique.

Purpose: The association between the prevalence of patellofemoral arthritis (PFA) and femoral tunnel positioning following isolated medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLr) has not been well described. The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between femoral tunnel positioning and the prevalence of PFA.

Methods: This was a single-centre study of patients undergoing an isolated MPFLr between 2006 and 2011 with a minimum of 10 years of follow-up.

Long-term functional success and robust implant survival in lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: A case series with a mean follow-up of twenty two and a half years.

Purpose: Lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is an accepted treatment option in cases of end-stage lateral osteoarthritis. While lateral UKA has many proposed advantages compared to total knee arthroplasty, its technical challenges and relatively small number of cases make this an uncommon procedure. The aim of this study was to report the survivorship and functional outcomes beyond 20 years of follow-up of isolated UKA.
