UMR 85 Physiology of Reproduction and Behaviour, National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) Centre Val de Loire, 37380, Nouzilly, France.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze the androgen profiles in the follicular fluid of 30 women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), comparing their results to 47 control women and 29 women with polycystic ovary morphology, using advanced measurement techniques.
  • Results indicated that PCOS patients had significantly elevated levels of certain androgens produced by ovarian theca cells, which correlated with clinical symptoms and specific adipokines associated with PCOS, while control groups showed higher levels of different hormones.
  • The findings suggest that PCOS is associated with an increase in androgens from the ovaries, supporting the notion of ovarian hyperandrogenism as a critical factor in the condition's pathology

Soft tissue sarcoma (STS) comprise a large group of mesenchymal malignant tumors with heterogeneous cellular morphology, proliferative index, genetic lesions and, more importantly, clinical features. Full elucidation of this wide diversity remains a central question to improve their therapeutic management and the identity of cell(s)-of-origin from which these tumors arise is part of this enigma. Cellular reprogramming allows transitions of a mature cell between phenotypes, or identities, and represents one key driver of tumoral heterogeneity.

Article Synopsis
  • Two double-blind trials involving 42 men and 19 women assessed the impact of 2 g/day of grape polyphenol extract during a 31-day period of high calorie-high fructose overfeeding.
  • While body weight and fat mass increased in both men and women, grape polyphenol supplementation did not prevent changes in insulin sensitivity or fat accumulation, particularly in the liver for men.
  • Interestingly, the intake of polyphenols was linked to a decrease in fat cell size in women's femoral fat, indicating some localized effects despite overall metabolic alterations remaining unchanged.

Background: Successful pain management after outpatient surgery requires proper education leading to correct decisions on the analgesics use at home. Despite different strategies adopted, up to ½ of patients receive little or no information about the treatment of postoperative pain, 1/3 of them are not able to follow postoperative analgesia instructions. This leads to higher rates of unmet needs in pain treatment, post-discharge emergency calls, and readmissions.

The virus neutralization test (VNT) is the reference for the assessment of the functional ability of neutralizing antibodies (NAb) to block SARS-CoV-2 entry into cells. New competitive immunoassays measuring antibodies preventing interaction between the spike protein and its cellular receptor are proposed as surrogate VNT (sVNT). We tested three commercial sVNT (a qualitative immunochromatographic test and two quantitative immunoassays named YHLO and TECO) together with a conventional anti-spike IgG assay (bioMérieux) in comparison with an in-house plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT) using the original 19A strain and different variants of concern (VOC), on a panel of 306 sera from naturally-infected or vaccinated patients.

Univ Lyon, Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University, INSERM 1052, CNRS 5286, Centre Léon Bérard, Cancer Research Center of Lyon, Lyon, France; Department of Medical Oncology, Centre Léon Bérard, Lyon, France. Electronic address:

Introduction: Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is associated with tumor aggressiveness, drug resistance, and poor survival in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and other cancers. The identification of immune-checkpoint ligands (ICPLs) associated with NSCLCs that display a mesenchymal phenotype (mNSCLC) could help to define subgroups of patients who may benefit from treatment strategies using immunotherapy.

Methods: We evaluated ICPL expression in silico in 130 NSCLC cell lines.

Once temozolomide has failed, there is no recommended treatment option for pituitary carcinomas and aggressive pituitary tumors. Immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) represent the most recent therapeutic avenue, having raised hope with the publication of the first successful case in 2018. Here, we present an overview of immunotherapy in pituitary carcinomas and aggressive pituitary tumors, starting with the rationale for using ICIs and the implications of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in anterior pituitary tumors, followed by a systematic review of all published cases, analyzing both treatment response and potential predictors of response and finishing with research and clinical perspectives.
