Moral learning and decision-making are crucial throughout our lives, from infancy to old age. Emerging evidence suggests that there are important differences in learning and decision-making in moral situations across the lifespan, and these are underpinned by co-occurring changes in the use of model-based values and theory of mind. Here, we review the decision neuroscience literature on moral choices and moral learning considering four key concepts.

Objectives: The evolution of knowledge and recommendations concerning transgender health has led to various representations, especially for health professionals, that can influence the medical management of transgender individuals. The main objective of this study was to explore the representation of psychiatrists in France regarding gender variance. The secondary objective was to compare these data based on their characteristics.

Embryonic exposure through maternally transferred pollutants can affect embryo vitality, survival, and health. Reptiles face global declines and are sensitive to embryonic pollutant exposure. Yet, they are often neglected in pollution risk assessment and conservation.

Identifying the properties of the rapid eye movement (REM) sleep circuitry and its relation to diseases has been challenging due to the neuronal heterogeneity of the brainstem. Here, we show in mice that neurons in the pontine sublaterodorsal tegmentum (SubLDT) that express corticotropin-releasing hormone-binding protein (Crhbp neurons) and project to the medulla promote REM sleep. Within the medullary area receiving projections from Crhbp neurons, neurons expressing nitric oxide synthase 1 (Nos1 neurons) project to the SubLDT and promote REM sleep, suggesting a positively interacting loop between the pons and the medulla operating as a core REM sleep circuit.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) associated with chronic lung disease (CLD) is both common and underrecognised. The presence of PH in the setting of lung disease has been consistently shown to be associated with worse outcomes. Recent epidemiological studies have advanced understanding of the heterogeneity of this patient population and shown that defining both the specific type of CLD as well as the severity of PH ( deeper phenotyping) is necessary to inform natural history and prognosis.

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) continues to be associated with a variable rate of return to sports and a concerning rate of further anterior cruciate ligament injury. Persistent functional deficits may explain these results and support the need to keep exploring lower limb functional indexes, especially during vertical jumping. This would help improve rehabilitation through the return-to-sports continuum and improve postoperative outcomes.

Background: Recent advancements in anomaly detection have paved the way for novel radiological reading assistance tools that support the identification of findings, aimed at saving time. The clinical adoption of such applications requires a low rate of false positives while maintaining high sensitivity.
Purpose: In light of recent interest and development in multi pathology identification, we present a novel method, based on a recent contrastive self-supervised approach, for multiple chest-related abnormality identification including low lung density area ("LLDA"), consolidation ("CONS"), nodules ("NOD") and interstitial pattern ("IP").

The microbial communities residing in the mosquito midgut play a key role in determining the outcome of mosquito pathogen infection. Elizabethkingia anophelis, originally isolated from the midgut of Anopheles gambiae possess a broad-spectrum antiviral phenotype, yet a gap in knowledge regarding the mechanistic basis of its interaction with viruses exists. The current study aims to identify pathways and genetic factors linked to E.

Purpose Of Review: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the prototype of fibrosing interstitial lung diseases. It is mirrored by progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF), an umbrella term which characterizes disease behavior of various fibrotic interstitial lung diseases with irreversible progression, accounting for loss of lung function, exercise intolerance and respiratory failure leading to early mortality. Pirfenidone and nintedanib halve the decline in lung function but do not halt disease progression.

Background: Social network analysis of animal societies allows scientists to test hypotheses about social evolution, behaviour, and dynamic processes. However, the accuracy of estimated metrics depends on data characteristics like sample proportion, sample size, and frequency. A protocol is needed to assess for bias and robustness of social network metrics estimated for the animal populations especially when a limited number of individuals are monitored.

Background: We used data from the INMARK trial to investigate associations between circulating biomarkers of extracellular matrix (ECM) turnover, inflammation and epithelial dysfunction and disease progression in subjects with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
Methods: Subjects with IPF and forced vital capacity (FVC) ≥80% predicted were randomised 1:2 to receive nintedanib 150 mg twice daily or placebo for 12 weeks followed by open-label nintedanib for 40 weeks. Associations between baseline biomarker levels and the proportion of subjects with disease progression (decline in FVC ≥10% predicted or death) over 52 weeks were assessed in subjects randomised to placebo using logistic regression.

Optimization of individual immunosuppression, which reduces the risks of both graft loss and patients' death, is considered the best approach to improve long-term outcomes of renal transplantation. Torque Teno Virus (TTV) DNAemia has emerged as a potential biomarker reflecting the depth of therapeutic immunosuppression during the initial year post-transplantation. However, its efficacy in long-term monitoring remains uncertain.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common in hospitalized patients and results in significant morbidity and mortality. The objective of the study was to explore the systemic immune response of intensive care unit patients presenting with AKI, especially the association between immune profiles and persistent AKI during the first week after admission following various types of injuries (sepsis, trauma, surgery, and burns).
Methods: REALAKI is an ancillary analysis of the REAnimation Low Immune Status Marker (REALISM) cohort study, in which 359 critically ill patients were enrolled in three different intensive care units.

Introduction: Fournier's gangrene, a rare infectious condition affecting the external genitalia, often requires aggressive medical-surgical interventions, resulting in variable scrotal tissue loss. Despite numerous proposed reconstruction techniques, achieving a consensus on the most effective approach that balances aesthetics and function remains elusive. This case report presents a one-year follow-up on scrotal reconstruction using a pedicled Superficial Circumflex Iliac Artery Perforator (SCIP) propeller flap.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare and progressive disease that causes progressive cough, exertional dyspnea, impaired quality of life, and death. Bexotegrast (PLN-74809) is an oral, once-daily, investigational drug in development for the treatment of IPF. This Phase-2a multicenter, clinical trial randomized participants with IPF to receive, orally and once daily, bexotegrast at 40 mg, 80 mg, 160 mg, or 320 mg, or placebo, with or without background IPF therapy (pirfenidone or nintedanib), in an approximately 3:1 ratio in each bexotegrast dose cohort, for at least 12 weeks.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: Substance use disorder (SUD) is a common condition often associated with borderline personality disorder (BPD), and patients with both disorders (SUD + BPD) have more complex presentations and poorer outcomes in treatment. Thus, there is a need to identify more clearly the clinical differences between patients with SUD + BPD and those with SUD only to help clinicians in their diagnostic process.
Methods: Data from medical files of 92 patients with SUD (SUD only: = 42; SUD + BPD: = 50) treated in an outpatient psychiatry and addiction treatment center were extracted to compare the differences in terms of sociodemographic characteristics, substance used, psychopathological dimensions, comorbidity prevalence, and functional impairment.
