Osseous sarcoidosis presenting as lytic and blastic bone lesions: A rare diagnostic challenge.

Osseous sarcoidosis is a rare manifestation of sarcoidosis, often mimicking other conditions like metastatic disease. Skeletal involvement occurs in only 3%-13% of cases (1), making diagnosis challenging. We present the case of a 63-year-old female with a 1-month history of inflammatory bone pain and multiple lytic and blastic lesions.

Modulating self-assembly and polymorph transitions in bisdendronized squaramides.

Supramolecular self-assembly is an advanced approach for constructing ordered nanoscale architectures with broad applications. While the principles of supramolecular polymerization have been thoroughly explored in artificial small molecules, polymer transformations remain barely explored, likely due to the lack of suitable reference models presenting well-defined and reversible transitions between aggregates. In this study, we introduce a series of bisdendronized squaramides (SQs) 1-3, showcasing complex self-assembly behaviours involving four distinct aggregates, three different interaction patterns, and various thermodynamically controlled polymorph transformations.

Reaction contest: hydrolysis intramolecular cyclisation reaction in alkyl squaramate esters.

The stability and hydrolytic behavior of squaramate esters in aqueous solutions have been investigated. The structure of squaramates and the nature of adjacent groups significantly influence their aqueous stability and reactivity towards nucleophiles. Squaramate esters, lacking or containing weakly basic neighboring group participation (NGP) substitutions, remain stable up to pH 9.

Oropharyngeal reconstruction with buccinator myomucosal island flaps: Functional outcomes and quality of life. A retrospective observational study.

Background: The buccinator myomucosal island flaps are an excellent option for "like with like" oropharyngeal reconstruction in selected cases. We report a series of 15 patients and discuss the functional outcomes.

Methods: From January 1, 2020 to February 31, 2023, 15 patients underwent oropharyngeal tumor resection and reconstruction with myomucosal island flaps.

Short-term effects of semaglutide among patients with obesity with and without food addiction: an observational study.

Introduction: Food addiction (FA) is highly prevalent among people with obesity (PwO) and may constitute a key factor in weight loss failure or weight regain. GLP-1 analogues have been shown to act on the mesolimbic system, which is related to hedonic overeating and substance abuse. We aimed to study the effects of low doses of semaglutide on FA symptomatology and to evaluate whether the presence of FA have a negative impact on weight loss despite treatment with semaglutide.

Myomucosal island flaps for oropharyngeal reconstruction.

The oropharynx represents one of the most challenging areas to reconstruct for the head and neck surgeon. The buccinator myomucosal island flaps pedicled on the facial artery [tunnelized facial artery myomucosal island flap (t-FAMMIF)] or the buccal artery [buccal artery myomucosal island flap (BAMMIF)] are an ideal reconstructive option for moderate size defects measuring up to 8-9cm. Two fresh specimens have been used to show the step-by-step surgical technique of both island flaps.

The MIGREX study: Prevalence and risk factors of sexual dysfunction among migraine patients.

Background: Migraine attacks have a high impact on daily activities. There is limited research on the burden of migraine on sexual functioning.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in patients with migraine and its relationship with migraine features and comorbidities.

Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Agonists for Treating Obesity in Patients With Immune-Mediated Skin Diseases.

Psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa are often associated with obesity. Because chronic low-grade inflammation underlies these 2 diseases, they can progress to more severe forms in patients with obesity if weight-reduction measures are not taken. This review covers pharmacologic alternatives for treating obesity, with emphasis on the benefits associated with the novel use of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists that act on satiety receptors.

Needle arthroscopy of the elbow through an anterior transbrachial portal.

Background: Current innovation in needle arthroscopy is improving the safety of anterior portals around the elbow. This study evaluated the proximity to the radial nerve, median nerve, and brachial artery on cadaveric specimens of an anterior portal used for elbow arthroscopy.

Methods: Ten fresh-frozen adult cadaveric extremities were used.

sp. nov., a new species isolated from the hot water distribution systems of a hospital and a shopping center during routine sampling.

Two -like strains isolated from hot water distribution systems in 2012 have been characterized phenotypically, biochemically and genomically in terms of DNA relatedness. Both strains, HCPI-6 and EUR-108, exhibited biochemical phenotypic profiles typical of species. Cells were Gram-negative motile rods which grew on BCYEα agar but not on blood agar and displayed phenotypic characteristics typical of the family , including a requirement for l-cysteine and testing catalase positive.

Combined Approach for Giant Temporal Meningoencephalocele.

Introduction: To present a complex case of giant meningoencephalocele after a canal wall down mastoidectomy and describe our preferred approach to repair meningoencephalic herniation of the temporal bone.

Case Report: A 20-year-old patient, who had previously undergone type III tympanoplasty with total ossicular reconstruction prosthesis for an attic cholesteatoma, presents with clinical and imaging features compatible with the diagnosis of a giant temporal meningoencephalocele. We performed a combined approach -transmastoid plus minicraniotomy- to repair the skull base defect.

Effects of weight stigma on BMI and inflammatory markers among people living with obesity.

Objective: Weight stigma (WS) and prejudice are one of the most prevalent ways of discrimination among adults, comparable with rates of racial discrimination. Exposure to WS among patients with obesity (PWO) may make the adoption of healthy dietary patterns and regular physical activity even more challenging and, therefore, the achievement of weight loss. Additionally, WS could also induce physiological responses such as increased levels of inflammatory markers, due to stress exposure.

International Delphi-based consensus on the appropriate use and effect of Benzydamine hydrochloride in the treatment of sore throat.

Background: Benzydamine hydrochloride is a locally-acting Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) with combined local anesthetic and analgesic properties, indicated for the symptomatic relief of pain in acute sore throat. The aim of this study was to obtain an European Consensus among pharmacists, general practitioners and pediatricians on the appropriate use of benzydamine hydrochloride in the treatment of sore throat.

Methods: The authors developed a Delphi questionnaire organized into 15 statements focused on 4 topics: the mechanism of action of benzydamine, the benzydamine treatment in an adult patient and in a pediatric patient, and the advantages of benzydamine over other topical treatments.
