This paper analyzes the paleoneurology (cranial endocast and maxillary canal) of Massetognathus pascuali, an iconic non-mammaliaform cynodont from the early Late Triassic of South America, using Neutron Tomography. The application of neutron tomography holds the potential for uncovering more refined anatomical and quantitative data. The newly examined cranial endocast shows a forebrain with a tubular shape without an interhemispheric fissure, presence of a pineal body (with a closed parietal foramen), and a marked unossified zone.

Breast cancer is a disease with a high mortality rate worldwide; consequently, urgent achievements are required to design new greener drugs, leaving natural products and their derivatives as good options. A constant antineoplastic effect has been observed when the phytoproduct contains an indole fragment. Therefore, the objective of this work was to carry out a thoughtful computational study to perform an appropriate evaluation of four novel molecules of the class of the 3-indolylquinones as phytodrug candidates for antineoplastic activity: thymoquinone (TQ), 2,6-dimethoxy-1,4-benzoquinone (DMQ), 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone (DMMQ), and 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone (DHQ).

Arsenic is a well-known toxic substance, widely distributed, whereas vanadium is a pollutant of emerging interest. Both have been found to correlate positively in groundwaters, thus concern arises on the effect of these pollutants on crops, if such waters are used for irrigation. We conducted a study on the effect of aging with a typical crop soil mimicking soils initially irrigated with water containing As and V.

Specialized or secondary metabolites are small molecules of biological origin, often showing potent biological activities with applications in agriculture, engineering and medicine. Usually, the biosynthesis of these natural products is governed by sets of co-regulated and physically clustered genes known as biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs). To share information about BGCs in a standardized and machine-readable way, the Minimum Information about a Biosynthetic Gene cluster (MIBiG) data standard and repository was initiated in 2015.

A series of 1,5-disubstituted tetrazole-indole hybrids were synthesized via a high-order multicomponent reaction consisting of an Ugi-azide/Pd/Cu-catalyzed hetero-annulation cascade sequence. This operationally simple one-pot protocol allowed high bond-forming efficiency and creating six new bonds (two C-C, three C-N, and one N-N). Additionally, the products were evaluated against breast cancer MCF-7 cells, finding moderate activity in the compounds substituted with fluorine and chlorine.

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is the most prevalent primary immunodeficiency, marked by hypogammaglobulinemia, poor antibody responses, and increased infection susceptibility. The COVID-19 pandemic provided a unique opportunity to study the effects of prolonged viral infections on the immune responses of CVID patients. Here we use single-cell RNA-seq and spectral flow cytometry of peripheral blood samples before, during, and after SARS-CoV-2 infection showing that COVID-19 CVID patients display a persistent type I interferon signature at convalescence across immune compartments.

Instituto de Investigaciones en Ingeniería Genética y Biología Molecular, "Dr. Héctor Torres" (INGEBI-CONICET), Vuelta de Obligado 2490, Buenos Aires C1428ADN, Argentina.

In recent years, the rapid alkalinization factor (RALF) family of cysteine-rich peptides has been reported to be crucial for several plant signaling mechanisms, including cell growth, plant immunity and fertilization. RALF4 and RALF19 (RALF4/19) pollen peptides redundantly regulate the pollen tube integrity and growth through binding to their receptors ANXUR1/2 (ANX1/2) and Buddha's Paper Seal 1 and 2 (BUPS1/2), members of the RLK1-like (CrRLK1L) family, and, thus, are essential for plant fertilization. However, the signaling mechanisms at the cellular level that follow these binding events remain unclear.

While epidemiological evidence has long linked obesity with an increased risk of breast cancer, the intricate interactions between adipocytes and cancer cells within the tumor microenvironment remain largely uncharted territory. The use of organotypic three-dimensional (3D) cell cultures that more accurately mimic the spatial architecture of tumors represents an innovative approach to this complex issue. In the present study, we investigated the effects of adipocytes on the proteome of Hs578t breast cancer cells cultured in a 3D microenvironment.

In this study, we present results from path integral molecular dynamics simulations that describe the characteristics of the quantum spatial delocalizations of protons participating in OH bonds in (MeOH)2H+ and in (MeOH)3H+. The characterization was carried out by examining the overall structures of the corresponding isomorphic polymers. To introduce full flexibility in the force treatment, we have adopted a neural network fitting procedure based on second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory predictions.

October 2024

Departamento de Ecología, Genética y Evolución and IEGEBA-UBA-CONICET, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Pabellón II Ciudad Universitaria, C1428EGA Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Juveniles of interspecific avian brood parasites need to locate and recognize conspecifics to continue their life cycle after being reared by individuals of another species. However, little is known about the recognition mechanisms and cues involved in this critical stage of their lives. It has been proposed that adult parasites could show some kind of parental behavior by actively searching and interacting with conspecific young, which in turn could serve the juveniles to learn and/or reinforce the learning of conspecific characteristics.
