As an active branch within the field of supramolecular polymers, chiral supramolecular polymers (SPs) are an excellent benchmark to generate helical structures that can clarify the origin of homochirality in Nature or help determine new exciting functionalities of organic materials. Herein, we highlight the most utilized strategies to build up chiral SPs by using chiral monomeric units or external stimuli. Selected examples of transfer of asymmetry, in which the point or axial chirality contained by the monomeric units is efficiently transferred to the supramolecular scaffold yielding enantioenriched helical structures, will be presented.

Weakly Self-Assembled [6]Helicenes: Circularly Polarized Light and Spin Filtering Properties.

Self-assembling features, chiroptical activity, and spin filtering properties are reported for 2,15- and 4,13-disubstituted [6]helicenes decorated in their periphery with 3,4,5-tris(dodecyloxy)-N-(4-ethynylphenyl)benzamide moieties. The weak non-covalent interaction between these units conditions the corresponding circularly polarized luminescence and spin polarization. The self-assembly is overall weak for these [6]helicene derivatives that, despite the formation of H-bonding interactions between the amide groups present in the peripheral moieties, shows very similar chiroptical properties both in the monomeric or aggregated states.

A cyclic tetra-phosphorylated biomimetic peptide (pS1368) has been proposed as a promising starting structure to design a decorporating agent of uranyl (UO) due to its affinity being similar to that of osteopontin (OPN), a target UO protein in vivo. The determination of this peptide's selectivity towards UO in the presence of competing endogenous elements is also crucial to validate this hypothesis. In this context, the selectivity of pS1368 towards UO in the presence of Ca, Cu and Zn was determined by applying the simultaneous coupling of hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) to electrospray ionization (ESI-MS) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS) mass spectrometry.

This work investigates the effect of dilution on the phase separation process of binary charged polysaccharide-surfactant mixtures formed by two cationic polysaccharides and up to four surfactants of different nature (anionic, zwitterionic, and neutral), as well as the potential impact of dilution-induced phase separation on the formation of conditioning deposits on charged surfaces, mimicking the negative charge and wettability of damaged hair fibers. The results obtained showed that the dilution behavior of model washing formulations (concentrated polysaccharide-surfactant mixtures) cannot be described in terms of a classical complex precipitation framework, as phase separation phenomena occur even when the aggregates are far from the equilibrium phase separation composition. Therefore, dilution-enhanced deposition cannot be predicted in terms of the worsening of colloidal stability due to the charge neutralization phenomena, as common phase separation and, hence, enhanced deposition occurs even for highly charged complexes.

Tipping bucket rain gauges (TBRs) continue to be one of the most widely used pieces of equipment for rainfall monitoring; they are frequently used for the calibration, validation, and downscaling of radar and remote sensing data, due to their major advantages-low cost, simplicity and low-energy consumption. Thus, many works have focused and continue to focus on their main disadvantage-measurement biases (mainly in wind and mechanical underestimations). However, despite arduous scientific effort, calibration methodologies are not frequently implemented by monitoring networks' operators or data users, propagating bias in databases and in the different applications of such data, causing uncertainty in the modeling, management, and forecasting in hydrological research, mainly due to a lack of knowledge.

The goal of this work is to estimate the efficacy of interferon therapy in the inhibition of infection by the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in a cell culture. For this purpose, three viral dynamics models with the antiviral effect of interferons are presented; the dynamics of cell growth differ among the models, and a variant with Gompertz-type cell dynamics is proposed. A Bayesian statistics approach is used to estimate the cell dynamics parameters, viral dynamics and interferon efficacy.
