is a medically relevant fungus, particularly in tropical regions. Although its aflatoxin production and thermotolerance are well documented, its biofilm-forming ability has received less attention, despite being a key factor in the virulence of as an opportunistic pathogen, which can significantly impact therapeutic outcomes. To investigate the influence of temperature on the growth and biofilm formation of an isolate, we compared it on solid media with the reference strain ATCC 22546 and documented morphological changes during conidial germination.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic degenerative disease characterized by the progressive loss of articular cartilage. The role of cigarette smoke (CS) in OA is debated, with some studies suggesting a protective effect while others indicate it may pose a risk. Our preliminary findings suggest a link between smoking in young adults and severe knee OA, though the extent of this contribution is unclear.

An active catalytic system for the cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) of a wide range of secondary amines with silanes is reported. The iridium(III) derivatives [Ir(H)(X)(κ-NSi)(L)] (NSi = {4,8-dimethylquinoline-2-yloxy}dimethylsilyl; L = coe, X = Cl, ; L = coe, X = OTf, ; L = PCy, X = Cl, ; L = PCy X = OTf, ), which are stabilized by a weak yet noticeable Ir···H-C agostic interaction between the iridium and one of the C-H bonds of the 8-Me substituent of the NSi ligand, have been prepared and fully characterized. These species have proven to be effective catalysts for the CDC of secondary amines with hydrosilanes.

Flavonoids are particularly interesting because they have a broad spectrum of biological effects, including antioxidant and free radical scavenging activities. In this work, solid-liquid microextraction and dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction enhanced by ultrasound were developed and compared with the conventional method (Soxhlet extraction) to optimize the extraction of four flavonoids: rutin, quercitrin, quercetin, and myricetin in samples of Schinus molle (Aguaribay). During the development of the analytical method, different chemometric tools were used to optimize the microextraction procedure.

The double-perovskite material CsTiBr shows excellent photovoltaic potential, making it a promising alternative to lead-based materials. However, its high susceptibility to degradation in air has raised concerns about its practical application. This study introduces an interesting synthesis approach that significantly enhances the stability of CsTiBr powder.

Purpose: The normal brain is an important dose-limiting organ for brain cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy. This study aims to develop a model to calculate photon isoeffective doses (D) to normal brain that can explain the incidence of grade 2 or higher somnolence syndrome (SS⩾2) after Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT).
Methods: A D model was constructed to find the reference photon dose that equals the Normal Tissue Complication Probability (NTCP) of the absorbed dose from BNCT.

Relative rate studies of the gas-phase reaction of amyl methacrylate, CH═C(CH)C(O)O[CH]CH, with OH radicals were performed at (298 ± 2) K and 1000 mbar. The experiments were conducted in an atmospheric Pyrex chamber coupled to Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The rate coefficient obtained from the average of several experiments was = (8.

Rate coefficients of the gas-phase reactions of Cl atoms with a series of fluorinated diketones (FDKs): CFC(O)CHC(O)CH (TFP), CFC(O)CHC(O)CHCH (TFH) and CFC(O)CHC(O)CH(CH) (TFMH), have been measured at (298 ± 2) K and under atmospheric pressure. The experiments were performed using the relative-rate method with a GC-FID detection system. From different determinations and references used, the following rate coefficients were obtained (in cm/(molecule·sec)): k(TFP + Cl) = (1.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia, affecting approximately 47 M people worldwide. Histological features and genetic risk factors, among other evidence, supported the amyloid hypothesis of the disease. This neuronocentric paradigm is currently undergoing a shift, considering evidence of the role of other cell types, such as microglia and astrocytes, in disease progression.

This paper analyses the optimal control of infectious disease propagation using a classic susceptible-infected-recovered (SIR) model characterised by permanent immunity and the absence of available vaccines. The control is performed over a time-dependent mean reproduction number, in order to minimise the cumulative number of ever-infected individuals (recovered), under different constraints. We consider constraints on non-pharmaceutical interventions ranging from partial lockdown to non-intervention, as well as the social and economic costs associated with such interventions, and the capacity limitations of intensive care units that limits the number of infected individuals to a maximum allowed value.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of chronic treatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) on short-term clinical outcomes after an episode of AHF.
Methods: A secondary analysis of patients included in the EAHFE (Epidemiology of Acute Heart Failure in Emergency Departments) cohort, which includes patients diagnosed with AHF in 45 Spanish Emergency Departments (EDs). The primary outcome was all-cause in-hospital mortality.

In this study, the hydrolysis of ethyl azolylacetates and ethyl cinnamates using KCO/ethanol under microwave irradiation was developed. For this purpose, ethyl azolylacetates were first synthesized by nucleophilic substitution between the corresponding azole and ethyl bromoacetate under sonication at 50 °C for 3 h, yielding derivatives with 10-92% chemical yields, while ethyl cinnamates were obtained by a microwave-assisted Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons (HWE) reaction of triethyl phosphonoacetate with a variety of aryl aldehydes at 140 °C for 20 min, yielding derivatives with moderate to high yields (67-98%). Initially, the optimization of the hydrolysis reaction was performed using ethyl pyrazolylacetate as a model starting material while varying the temperature, time, and base equivalents; the best results were achieved by carrying out the reaction at 180 °C for 20 min with 3.

This study introduces an innovative approach for quantifying isomeric pollutants utilizing an amperometric sensor. The determination of the isomers hydroquinone and catechol is based on the use of a glassy carbon electrode modified with Cu@PtPd/C nanoparticles (Cu@PtPd/C/GCE) in core-shell form, showing significant electrocatalytic activity in the oxidation of the later compounds. The determination was carried out at two different potentials: one at which where only hydroquinone is oxidized, and another in which where both hydroquinone and catechol are oxidized.

In recent decades an extensive mortality and decline of Quercus suber populations mainly caused by Phytophthora cinnamomi has been observed. In the current study, a chestnut gene homologous to ginkbilobin-2 (Cast_Gnk2-like), which in Ginkgo biloba codifies an antifungal protein, was transferred into cork oak somatic embryos of three different embryogenic lines by Agrobacterium mediated transformation. The transformation efficiency varied on the genotype from 2.

Anticancer drugs inhibit DNA replication by intercalating between DNA base pairs, forming covalent bonds with nucleotide bases, or binding to the DNA groove. To develop safer drugs, novel molecular structures with alternative binding mechanisms are essential. Stable boron hydrides offer a promising alternative for cancer therapy, opening up additional options like boron neutron capture therapy based on B and thermal neutron beams or proton boron fusion therapy using B and proton beams.

Background: Across numerous investigations delved into second- and higher-order data, an undoubted finding emerges: models based on such data can effectively exploit the second-order advantage. However, whether further benefits can be achieved by modeling data of higher dimensions remains a subject of inquiry. In this regard, a prevailing question emerges in third-order data-based applications regarding the fundamental need to increase the data dimension and, hence, the data analysis complexity.
