Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells modulate dextran sulfate sodium induced acute colitis in immunodeficient mice.

Stem Cell Res Ther

April 2015

Department of Surgery, Oncology and Gastroenterology, Gastroenterology/Multivisceral Transplant Unit, University Hospital Padova, Via Giustiniani 2, Padova, 35128, Italy.

Introduction: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are complex multi-factorial diseases with increasing incidence worldwide but their treatment is far from satisfactory. Unconventional strategies have consequently been investigated, proposing the use of cells as an effective alternative approach to IBD. In the present study we examined the protective potential of exogenously administered human umbilical cord derived mesenchymal stem cells (UCMSCs) against Dextran Sulfate Sodium (DSS) induced acute colitis in immunodeficient NOD.

Aim: This paper represents the outcome of the meetings of the Committee composed by Pedodontists (SIOI - Italian Society of Paediatric Dentistry) and Paediatricians (FIMP - Italian Association of Paediatricians) with the aim to share an evidence- based common approach in caries prevention during childhood and adolescence. The most important topic was an update on fluoride administration methods in order to minimise the risk of fluorosis and maximise its caries-preventive effect.

Conclusion: The conclusions of this work are exposed in a synoptic table.

Funnel technique for EVAR: "a way out" for abdominal aortic aneurysms with ectatic proximal necks.

Ann Vasc Surg

January 2012

Department of Cardiovascular Disease, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and Angiology, Cittadella Hospital, Cittadella, Padua, Italy.

Background: To describe an endovascular technique for proximal stent-graft fixation in patients with an abdominal aortic aneurysm and an ectatic aortic neck.

Methods: We describe a method in which using currently available devices in a hybrid assembly offers another option for circumventing the limitations of problematic proximal fixation.

Conclusions: Through four examples, we illustrate the feasibility of placing a straight endograft as proximal extension of a bifurcated or aorto-uni-iliac graft in patients with a dilated proximal aortic neck.
