The ketogenic diet (KD) is recognized as minimum carbohydrate and maximum fat intakes, which leads to ketosis stimulation, a state that is thought to metabolize fat more than carbohydrates for energy supply. KD has gained more interest in recent years and is for many purposes, including weight loss and managing serious diseases like type 2 diabetes. On the other hand, many believe that KD has safety issues and are uncertain about the health drawbacks.

With the goal of developing a high-performance organic solar cell, nine molecules of A-D-A-D-A type are originated in the current investigation. The optoelectronic properties of all the proposed compounds are examined by employing the DFT approach and the B3LYP functional with a 6-31G (d, p) basis set. By substituting the terminal moieties of reference molecule with newly proposed acceptor groups, several optoelectronic and photovoltaic characteristics of OSCs have been studied, which are improved to a significant level when compared with reference molecule, i.

Background: Our previous study investigated the levels of soluble growth factors in the conditioned media of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) pre-treated with thiazolidinedione solutions. The present study aimed to investigate the complex intracellular proteins extracted from BMSCs pre-treated with pioglitazone and/or rosiglitazone using proteomics.

Methods: The proliferative effect of the identified protein on MCF-7 cells that interacted non-adhesively with BMSCs pre-treated with pioglitazone and/or rosiglitazone was evaluated using cell culture inserts and conditioned media.

Article Synopsis
  • Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are widely prescribed for acid-related disorders, but their long-term effects on bone health are becoming a concern.
  • A review of 27 studies found a significant increase in fracture risks, particularly in the hip, spine, and wrist, as well as changes in Bone Mineral Density (BMD) among PPI users, despite uncertainty about the clinical impact.
  • The evidence also suggested risks of hypomagnesemia and dental implant failures in PPI users, but the overall confidence in these findings was rated as very low to low, indicating a need for more rigorous studies.

The COVID-19 infection is a worldwide disease that causes numerous immune-inflammatory disorders, tissue damage, and lung dysfunction. COVID-19 vaccines, including those from Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sinopharm, are available globally as effective interventions for combating the disease. The severity of COVID-19 can be most effectively reduced by mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) because they possess anti-inflammatory activity and can reverse lung dysfunction.

A systematic review on NbO-based photocatalysts: Crystallography, synthetic methods, design strategies, and photocatalytic mechanisms.

Adv Colloid Interface Sci

February 2024

Jiangsu Co-Innovation Center of Efficient Processing and Utilization of Forest Resources, International Innovation Center for Forest Chemicals and Materials, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing, Jiangsu 210037, China. Electronic address:

With the increasing popularity of photocatalytic technology and the highly growing issues of energy scarcity and environmental pollution, there is an increasing interest in extremely efficient photocatalytic systems. The widespread immense attention and applicability of NbO photocatalysts can be attributed to their multiple benefits, including strong redox potentials, non-toxicity, earth abundance, corrosion resistance, and efficient thermal and chemical stability. However, the large-scale application of NbO is currently impeded by the barriers of rapid recombination loss of photo-activated electron/hole pairs and the inadequacy of visible light absorption.

SO emissions are primarily caused by compounds containing sulfur in petroleum and fuels, which lead to severe air pollution. For this reason, it is necessary to develop a fast and simple desulfurization method in order to comply with ever-increasing environmental regulations. The newly discovered piezo-catalyst nanocomposite CeO/SrO can convert mechanical energy directly into chemical energy, thereby enabling mechanically oxidative sulfur desulfurization.

Background: Bisphenol A (BPA) is an exogenous endocrine disruptor mimicking hormones closely associated with health complications, such as cancer progression. BPA is also related to an increase in the prevalence of obesity-related diseases due to its obesogenic action. Bombesin-like receptor 3 (BRS3) is an important factor that should be considered in the adipogenic gene network, as depletion of this gene alters adiposity.
