Article Synopsis
  • This study examined the safety and tolerability of the anti-PD-1 drug pembrolizumab in patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) following bladder tumor removal surgery (TURBT).
  • Six patients received intravesical pembrolizumab in increasing doses (50 mg to 200 mg) without significant safety issues or dose-limiting toxicities.
  • The treatment was well-tolerated with mild side effects and no signs of systemic absorption or immune system changes, suggesting further research is needed to evaluate the potential benefits of this administration method.

ELTD1/ADGRL4 is an adhesion GPCR with an important role in angiogenesis. We recently identified a role for ELTD1 in wound repair and inflammation. Activation of ELTD1 in endothelial cells results in a type II EMT to myofibroblast-like cells that have enhanced angiogenic ability.

Background: Research studies have described the morbidity associated with inherited bleeding disorders such as hemophilia and von Willebrand disease in women, but their effect on daily living has long been underrecognized. This is a case of an unexpected and dramatic bleeding complication in a patient post-bone marrow biopsy performed for investigation of an IgA paraprotein with the results confirming multiple myeloma. Subsequent investigations were suggestive of an acquired platelet disorder indicated by abnormal platelet light aggregometry readings. It was observed that the impaired platelet aggregation corrected on reduction of the paraprotein load following commencement of antimyeloma treatment and plasma exchange.

Methods: In a blinded, crossover trial, 25 patients with T1D were randomised to 4 weeks adjunctive treatment with lixisenatide (L) or placebo (P), with a 4-week washout period.

Background And Aim: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is rapidly becoming the leading indication for liver transplant and is associated with increased cardiovascular and liver mortality, yet there are no licensed therapies. Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are widely used for their glucose-lowering effects in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Preclinical models have suggested a beneficial impact on NAFLD, but clinical data are limited, and there are currently no data on patients without T2D.

Unlabelled: Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms whose management can be problematic. In many cases, multiple tumours may occur in the same patient or his or her family, and some of these have now been defined genetically, although in other cases the underlying gene or genes involved remain unclear. We describe a patient, a 63-year-old female, who was diagnosed with a medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), which was confirmed pathologically after thyroidectomy, but whose circulating calcitonin levels remained elevated after thyroidectomy with no evidence of metastatic disease.
