In this paper, we report a low-cost printing process of carbon nanotube (CNT)-based, all-organic microelectrode arrays (MEAs) suitable for in vitro neural stimulation and recording. Conventional MEAs have been mainly composed of expensive metals and manufactured through high-cost and complex lithographic processes, which have limited their accessibility for neuroscience experiments and their application in various studies. Here, we demonstrate a printing-based fabrication method for microelectrodes using organic CNT/paraffin ink, coupled with the deposition of an insulating layer featuring single-cell-sized sensing apertures.

Photoresponsive liquid crystals are promising materials for sunlight-driven smart windows, which can automatically change their optical states in response to sunlight and control energy flow between the inside and outside of a building. Herein, liquid-crystalline systems are developed that show a transparent-scattering transition upon irradiation with sunlight in a wide temperature range. Push-pull azobenzenes with axial chirality have been newly developed as photochromic chiral dopants to allow changes in mesostructures of liquid crystals in response to sunlight.

The first total synthesis of bipenicilisorin () isolated from SCSIO 41001 via its monomer natural product, penicilisorin (), was achieved. Penicilisorin was synthesized in four steps from a -bromobenzaldehyde derivative via the Pd-catalyzed one-pot fluorocarbonylation/lactonization/β-elimination cascade reaction. Iodination of penicilisorin gave 7-iodopenicilisorin which was dimerized by Pd-catalyzed homodimerization to provide (±)-bipenicilisorin.

The binding affinity of nicotinoids to the binding residues of the αβ variant of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) was identified as a strong predictor of the nicotinoid's addictive character. Using ab initio calculations for model binding pockets of increasing size composed of 3, 6, and 14 amino acids (3AA, 6AA, and 14AA) that are derived from the crystal structure, the differences in binding affinity of 6 nicotinoids, namely, nicotine (NIC), nornicotine (NOR), anabasine (ANB), anatabine (ANT), myosmine (MYO), and cotinine (COT) were correlated to their previously reported doses required for increases in intracranial self-stimulation (ICSS) thresholds, a metric for their addictive function. By employing the many-body decomposition, the differences in the binding affinities of the various nicotinoids could be attributed mainly to the proton exchange energy between the pyridine and non-pyridine rings of the nicotinoids and the interactions between them and a handful of proximal amino acids, namely Trp156, Trpβ57, Tyr100, and Tyr204.

Pupil contagion refers to the observer's pupil-diameter changes in response to changes in the pupil diameter of others. Recent studies on the other-race effect on pupil contagion have mainly focused on using eye region images as stimuli, revealing the effect in adults but not in infants. To address this research gap, the current study used whole-face images as stimuli to assess the pupil-diameter response of 5-6-month-old and 7-8-month-old infants to changes in the pupil-diameter of both upright and inverted unfamiliar-race faces.

Solution-processed colloidal III-V semiconductor quantum dot photodiodes (QPDs) have potential applications in short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) imaging due to their tunable spectral response range, possible multiple-exciton generation, operation at 0-V bias voltage and low-cost fabrication and are also expected to replace lead- and mercury-based counterparts that are hampered by reliance on restricted elements (RoHS). However, the use of III-V CQDs as photoactive layers in SWIR optoelectronic applications is still a challenge because of underdeveloped ligand engineering for improving the in-plane conductivity of the QD assembled films. Here, we report on ligand engineering of InSb CQDs to enhance the optical response performance of self-powered SWIR QPDs.

The use of these chemical motifs for the construction of Ru-based metal-organic polyhedra (RuMOPs) provides a route for redox-active porous materials.
