Background/aim: A genomic analysis based on next-generation sequencing is important for deciding cancer treatment strategies. Cancer tissue sometimes displays intratumor heterogeneity and a pathologic specimen may contain more than two tumor grades. Although tumor grades are very important for the cancer prognosis, the impact of higher tumor grade distribution in a specimen used for a genomic analysis is unknown.

Pre-hospital airway management and neurological status of patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: A retrospective cohort study.

Resusc Plus

September 2023

Department of Preventive Services, School of Public Health, Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University, Yoshida-Konoemachi, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto 606-8501, Japan.

Purpose: Little is known about whether pre-hospital advanced airway management (AAM) under the presence of a physician could improve outcome of patients with cardiac arrest, compared with pre-hospital AAM under the absence of a physician.

Methods: This retrospective multicentre-cohort study enrolled consecutive patients who were transported to participating hospitals after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Japan between 1 June 2014 and 31 December 2019. We included patients who underwent pre-hospital AAM and resuscitation after arrival at hospital, and who were ≥18 years of age, with medical aetiologies.

Background: This retrospective single-center cohort study evaluated the efficacy and safety of a combination of neoadjuvant luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) antagonist and tegafur-uracil (UFT) therapy (NCHT) and investigated the medical records of patients with high-risk PCa who underwent robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). The therapy was followed by RARP for high-risk PCa.

Materials And Methods: The enrolled patients were divided into two groups: low-intermediate-risk PCa patients who underwent RARP without neoadjuvant therapy (non-high-risk) and those who underwent NCHT followed by RARP (high-risk group).

  • * Eight patients with high ammonia levels participated, receiving rifaximin for three months; their oxidized albumin levels tended to decrease while serum ammonia significantly dropped from 143 μg/dL to 76 μg/dL.
  • * Although rifaximin did not change serum albumin levels, the findings suggest it may improve circulating albumin structure, indicating the need for larger studies to verify these preliminary results.

Muscle cramps are frequently overlooked and worsen the quality of life in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD). Therefore, a valuable biomarker for predicting muscle cramps is required in the clinical setting. This study aimed to investigate whether the serum Mac-2-binding protein glycosylation isomer (M2BPGi) levels, a reliable liver fibrosis marker, could predict muscle cramps in patients with CLD.
