From the Beginning of the Korean Gynecologic Oncology Group to the Present and Next Steps.

The Korean Gynecologic Oncology Group (KGOG) was established in 2002 and is the only organization in Korea conducting multi-center clinical trials for gynecologic cancers. Since its re-establishment as a non-profit organization in 2021, KGOG has grown significantly, now including 207 gynecologic oncology specialists from 76 hospitals. This growth is a testament to the dedication and hard work of all those involved in the organization.

Clinical validity and precision of deep learning-based cone-beam computed tomography automatic landmarking algorithm.

Purpose: This study was performed to assess the clinical validity and accuracy of a deep learning-based automatic landmarking algorithm for cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Three-dimensional (3D) CBCT head measurements obtained through manual and automatic landmarking were compared.

Materials And Methods: A total of 80 CBCT scans were divided into 3 groups: non-surgical (39 cases); surgical without hardware, namely surgical plates and mini-screws (9 cases); and surgical with hardware (32 cases).

Epidural, Inadvertent Subdural, and Combined Epidural-Subdural Anesthesia in Lumbar Spine Surgery: A Retrospective Analysis.

This study aimed to categorize contrast media images associated with epidural, subdural, and combined epidural-subdural anesthesia in patients who had undergone fluoroscopy-guided epidural anesthesia using contrast media combined with monitored anesthesia care (MAC) targeted at deep sedation, incorporating capnography over 5 years. Additionally, a correlation was established between the anesthetic effects and radiographic findings according to the categorized imaging appearances. This study included 628 patients who underwent endoscopic, open, or fusion surgery under epidural anesthesia at Nanoori Hospital in Gangnam between March 2018 and September 2023.

Association Between Atrial Fibrillation Symptoms and Clinical Outcomes: A Prospective Multicenter Registry Study.

Comparison of agranulocytosis and anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis caused by two antithyroid drugs: A pharmacovigilance study using the WHO international database.

Background: Methimazole (MMI) and propylthiouracil (PTU) are commonly used for patients with thyrotoxicosis. Agranulocytosis and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) is associated with high morbidity and mortality, requiring appropriate interventions. In this study, we compared adverse drug effects associated with MMI and PTU using a real-world large pharmacovigilance database.

Gastric Ischemia after SARS-CoV-2 Infection.

Gastric ischemia is uncommon because the stomach has multiple collateral blood supplies. The etiology of gastric ischemia is vascular insufficiency caused by systemic hypotension, vasculitis, or disseminated thromboembolism. Mechanical causes include gastric volvulus and acute gastric distention.

Novel Procedure for Automatic Registration between Cone-Beam Computed Tomography and Intraoral Scan Data Supported with 3D Segmentation.

In contemporary practice, intraoral scans and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) are widely adopted techniques for tooth localization and the acquisition of comprehensive three-dimensional models. Despite their utility, each dataset presents inherent merits and limitations, prompting the pursuit of an amalgamated solution for optimization. Thus, this research introduces a novel 3D registration approach aimed at harmonizing these distinct datasets to offer a holistic perspective.

The prediction of sagittal chin point relapse following two-jaw surgery using machine learning.

The study aimed to identify critical factors associated with the surgical stability of pogonion (Pog) by applying machine learning (ML) to predict relapse following two-jaw orthognathic surgery (2 J-OGJ). The sample set comprised 227 patients (110 males and 117 females, 207 training and 20 test sets). Using lateral cephalograms taken at the initial evaluation (T0), pretreatment (T1), after (T2) 2 J-OGS, and post treatment (T3), 55 linear and angular skeletal and dental surgical movements (T2-T1) were measured.

External and internal validation of healthcare-associated infection data collected by the Korean National healthcare-associated Infections Surveillance System (KONIS).

Background: This study analyzed the validity of healthcare-associated infection (HAI) data of the Korean National healthcare-associated Infections Surveillance System.

Methods: The validation process consisted of external (EV) and internal (IV) validation phases. Of the 193 hospitals that participated from July 2016 through June 2017, EV was performed for 10 hospitals that were selected based on the HAI rate percentile.

Urinary Metabolite Profile Predicting the Progression of CKD.

Key Points: As a biomarker, urinary metabolites could bridge the gap between genetic abnormalities and phenotypes of diseases. We found that levels of betaine, choline, fumarate, citrate, and glucose were significantly correlated with kidney function and could predict kidney outcomes, providing prognostic biomarkers in CKD.

Background: Because CKD is caused by genetic and environmental factors, biomarker development through metabolomic analysis, which reflects gene-derived downstream effects and host adaptation to the environment, is warranted.

A Nationwide Survey on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Practice Patterns among Pediatric Endoscopists in South Korea.

Purpose: Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy is an important tool for diagnosing and treating GI diseases in children. This study aimed to analyze the current GI endoscopy practice patterns among South Korean pediatric endoscopists.

Methods: Twelve members of the Korean Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition developed a questionnaire.

Diagnosis of Cholangiocarcinoma.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), a tumor of the bile duct epithelium, is increasing in incidence. CCA remains a highly fatal malignancy because early diagnosis is difficult. Based on its anatomical location, CCA can be categorized into the following three groups: perihilar, intrahepatic, and extrahepatic.

Effect of postoperative radiotherapy for patients with differentiated thyroid cancer.

Objective: We evaluated the efficacy and safety of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) for differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) with high risk features.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study analyzed 187 patients treated for DTC from 1985 to 2019. DTC referred to nonanaplastic thyroid cancer originating from follicular cells.

Objective: Changes in the thoracolumbar angle (TLA) would play a pivotal role in the reciprocal changes following spine realignment surgery, thereby leading to the development of proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK). This study aimed to investigate the association between TLA and the development of PJK following adult spinal deformity surgery.

Methods: A total of 107 patients were divided into PJK+ and PJK- groups according to the development of PJK within 12 months after surgery.

Sarcopenia with systemic inflammation can predict survival in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing curative resection.

Background: This study aimed to examine the prognostic significance of sarcopenia combined with systemic inflammation in patients who underwent curative hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: Between January 2010 and July 2019, we identified 159 patients with HCC who underwent curative hepatectomy at three institutional centers. We retrospectively analyzed clinicopathological outcomes, surgical outcomes, platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR) as a systemic inflammatory marker, and computed tomography (CT)-assessed sarcopenia at the third lumbar vertebra level (L3).

High School Students' Social Jetlag, Lifelong Competency, and Academic Stress During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Cross-Sectional Study.

With the prolongation of non-ordinary situations such as school closures due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, high school students have experienced irregular sleep-wake cycles and elevated academic stress resulting from reduced academic achievement and widened gaps in academic performance. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the associations among chronotype, social jetlag, lifelong learning competency, and academic stress in high school students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were collected through an online survey from May-June 2021.

Validity and reliability of the gender equity scale in nursing education.

Equity is an emerging issue across all sectors of society, and one of the frequently raised concerns in nursing education is gender inequity. An accurate assessment appears to be a key component in creating an environment of gender equity in nursing education. This study aimed to develop a scale of gender equity in nursing education and establish its validity and reliability.

Three-Dimensional Changes in the Mandibular Proximal Segment After Using a Surgery-First Approach in Patients With Class III Malocclusion and Facial Asymmetry.

This study was performed to evaluate condylar position and angulation after asymmetric mandibular setback between a conventional (CA) and surgery-first approach (SFA) using three-dimensional analysis. The condylar positions of 30 patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion and facial asymmetry who underwent 1-jaw (sagittal split ramus osteotomy) or 2-jaw orthognathic surgery (Le Fort I osteotomy and sagittal split ramus osteotomy) with CA (n = 18) or SFA (n = 12) from 2 university hospitals were studied. The three-dimensional assessment of condylar changes was performed using computed tomography images at the initial time point (T0) and at least 6 months after surgery (T1).

Genetic relationship of age at first calving with conformation traits and calving interval in Hanwoo cows.

This study was performed to investigate genetic relationship of age at first calving (AFC) with body development and reproduction capacity in female Hanwoo. The data sets of 52,299 reproduction records of 19,566 heads calved from 2011 to 2019 and conformation records of 19565 heads born from 1997 to 2017 were analyzed by separating them based on age at first calving. In the analysis, conformation traits included the body condition score (BCS), height (HT), body width (BW), hip bone length (HL), hip bone width (HW), and final score (FS).
