Cells of human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were morphologically different from those of normal liver. Intermediate filaments are important in building the architecture of liver cells and are proposed to interact with other cellular components. Synemin is one of intermediate filament associated proteins which can link between intermediate filament and other cytoskeletal structures.

Low-power laser irradiation (LPLI) has come into a wide range of use in medical field. Considering basic research, LPLI can enhance DNA synthesis and increases proliferation rate of human cells. But only a few data about the effects of LPLI on human liver or hepatoma cells are available.

The properties of several different investments were investigated including phosphate bonded, magnesia bonded, and alumina cement investments. Measurements included the setting expansion, thermal expansion, and compressive strength of investments, as well as the tensile strength, elongation, Vickers hardness (VHN) and surface roughness of titanium castings. For phosphate bonded investment, the setting expansion after being mixed with its own mixing solution was 2.

Cerebral ischemia engages multiple terminal pathways involving the loss of ionic homeostasis, and acute and delayed neuronal damage. Several studies have focused on the derangement of energy metabolism and calcium, but not on magnesium. Hypomagnesium or low dietary magnesium intake may increase the risk of stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.

Cell death after cerebral ischemia is mediated by the accumulation of excitatory amino acids, calcium influx into cells and the generation of free radicals. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in energy-related metabolites in the striatum of gerbils subjected to focal cerebral ischemia after pretreatment with Ginkgo biloba extract (EGb761), a well-known antioxidant, and FK506, a calcium-dependent phosphatase calcineurin inhibitor. Ischemia was induced by occlusion of the right common carotid artery and the right middle cerebral artery for 60 min.

The stability of cytokeratin (CK) protein during tumor transformation in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was studied with molecular approach previously. The results demonstrated that the CK was modulated in human HCC. Besides this, three low molecular weight CK molecules (named HCC CK) were found.

Previous studies have demonstrated that magnesium sulfate has cytoprotective properties for treating experimental rat brain injuries. The aim of this study is to evaluate changes in energy-related metabolites and glutamate in the cortex of gerbils subjected to focal cerebral ischemia with the pretreatment of magnesium sulfate. The focal cerebral ischemia was produced by the occlusion of the right common carotid artery and the right middle cerebral artery for 60 mins.

Although previous studies have examined selected factors influencing health behavior, the complex interplay of the concept of health and health behavior in persons with chronic illness has not been investigated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the individual effects of six factors in the concept of health on the health behavior of Taiwanese people with chronic illness. A sample of 372 persons with chronic illness completed instruments measuring their concept of health and health behavior.

The object of this research was to study the formation of disinfection by-products by using chlorine dioxide (ClO2) as a disinfectant reacting with different properties of organic substance in natural aquatic environment. The adsorbent resin (XAD-4, XAD-7) was used to divide the organic matters in raw water into three groups. The influence of the function groups on structure, reaction tendency, and formation of disinfection by-products generated by the reaction of these organic substances with chlorine dioxide was explored.

N-Acetyltransferase enzyme is an important enzyme in the first step of arylamine compounds metabolism. Luteolin has been shown to exit antibacterial and antineoplastic activity. The purpose of this present study is to evaluate the question of whether luteolin could affect arylamine N-acetyltransferase (NAT) activity and DNA-2-aminofluorene adduct formation in human (HL-60) and mouse (L1210) leukemia cells.
